[Bug 991085] [NEW] application specific details prompt offers too limited options
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When some applications crash (like totem thumbnailer when opening the dash +bug 735929), apport collects relevant information and brings up a prompt that asks the user for more details how/when the crash happened. Afterwards, apport finishes/closes without giving the user any chance to see and enhance the bug report on Launchpad. The problem is that this prompt offers too limited options and no "other" option. If none of these options applies, the users either selects a wrong option (so that developers get wrong info about the bug) or closes apport (so that developers don't notice the bug at all). ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- application specific details prompt offers too limited options https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 968688] [NEW] Inability to use the Meta key in gnome-terminal (probably related to invoking the HUD?)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I'm using Bash in gnome-terminal, I'm currently unable to use the GNU Readline shortcuts to move forward a word, because pressing Left Alt + a key tries to open a menu option. For example, Alt+f opens the file menu. For some reason, the Alt key is bound to the menubar here. Expected behavior: Alt+f moves the cursor forward one word Current behavior: Alt+f opens the file menu. The strange thing is that it does work in a GUI version of Emacs, but not when Emacs is run directly in the terminal (emacs23-nox). It also works correctly in xterm (after Ctrl + left-click > select "Meta Sends Escape"). So I'm not sure if it's a bug in gnome-terminal or in unity. When you hold the Alt key in Emacs or xterm, nothing happens, the HUD is only displayed when you release the key again. Of course, when you're using it as a meta key, you're never doing that, you're holding it and combining it with another key. So that's the correct behaviour. In gnome-terminal, however, holding the Alt key doesn't do anything. It seems to be the case that combinations using the Alt key are interpreted as shortcuts for the menubar in gnome-terminal. On a related note, I'm wondering whether binding Alt to the HUD won't conflict with the usage of Alt as a meta key? While Alt is the obvious choice (and I like the concept of the HUD), it would be very annoying to be unable to use the meta key in certain programs. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- Inability to use the Meta key in gnome-terminal (probably related to invoking the HUD?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968688 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1031100] Re: crashed without warning
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1031100 Title: crashed without warning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1031100/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 903422 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903422 I have found the same issue connecting using Nautilus when the phone is in MTP mode on a Galaxy Nexus on ubuntu 12.04 LTS, gMTP seems to work occasionally , but takes several minutes to load and cuts out easily. The best I have found was to use a program called Clementine to transfer music. Revised release notes paragraph: """ Users upgrading from previous releases may notice that newly started applications during the upgrade procedure may display broken text, observable as "squares" instead of the text meant to be displayed. This is observable as a dialog that may popup during the upgrade procedure; it should read "An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." and does not block the upgrade process. Users wishing to close that dialog should press the bottom button. This issue is only affecting the current session while the upgrade is being executed; and should no longer appear after rebooting the system once the upgrade is completed. [Bug 1038573] Re: Unreadable messages displayed during Lucid -> Precise upgrade
I stepped through the entire upgrade process in a VM without reproducing this bug. I wonder if it's somehow specific to running upgrades on metal; that is, if compiz is running at the time? The error message in question is indeed showing up from evolution-alarm- notify (as per bug 965686); but I'm not sure what more can be done than stopping evolution during the upgrade process to try and avoid this showing up (as is already being done, and appears to work properly). Users can still open it back up like I did and most likely trigger evolution-alarm-notify showing up again until the point in the upgrade when it breaks. The error reads: """ An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly. [Details] [ OK ] """ It seems to happen because gconf gets restarted; or in any case things change (possibly the changes in GConf policy semantics?) and the notifier can't call method GetIOR on org.gnome.GConf (doesn't exist with signature "") If a meeting notification happens during that time and isn't clicked; clicking it after upgrade will fail finding the glade XML file, as expected because it's been migrated to gtkbuilder since Natty or so. This remains an unrelated problem to the actual font rendering issue that is reported here; and the rendering needs further investigation. I'll move on to testing the upgrade on actual hardware, with and without desktop effects enabled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1038573 Title: Unreadable messages displayed during Lucid -> Precise upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1038573/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1038573] Re: Unreadable messages displayed during Lucid -> Precise upgrade
I always just click on the unreadable "button" in the lower right hand corner of the pop-up window, assuming that it says either Continue or OK. [Bug 1038573] Re: Unreadable messages displayed during Lucid -> Precise upgrade
Plan is; I'm looking at this bug but it's still not obvious to me what the source of the issue is. The end result is that some applications will display broken text for a part of the upgrade procedure; but the exact package causing this I'm not sure of yet. We can certainly release note that such an issue can happen. Erick; would you mind clarifying exactly which button you press on the dialog so that we can figure out how it affects the upgrade procedure? It should be the bottom one, right? As for release note text; what does this look like (until the issue can be fixed): """ Users upgrading from previous releases may notice that newly started applications during the upgrade procedure may display broken text, observable as "squares" instead of the text meant to be displayed. A dialog may popup interrupting the upgrade procedure; it should read "[insert actual dialog text]". Users wishing to continue the upgrade should press the [bottom/top] button. This issue is only affecting the current session while the upgrade is being executed; and should no longer appear after rebooting the system once the upgrade is completed. This is being investigated as bug 1038573.
