[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04)
Hi, Paul Menzel wrote: The way to solve this error, is that people provide the necessary log files from Brasero and to improve the things Thomas Schmitt and George Danchev have found out to be incorrect [1]. Well, actually we [George and me] do not have any good idea left what goes wrong with the cooperation of libisofs and libburn underneath Brasero. Experiments with other applications indicate that the libraries themselves seem ok. Nevertheless we have three groups of bugs: - DVD burning aborts after about 50 percent (rare, Ubuntu bug 780117) - CD burning produces unreadable media (frequent, Ubuntu 780117, Debian 617409) (My theory of write type SAO versus TAO did not hold.) - A DVD got burned with a messed-up ISO 9660 image (rare, Debian 688229) Have a nice day :) Thomas -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780117 Title: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/brasero/+bug/780117/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1058515] [NEW] inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab
Public bug reported: If I create new terminal using gnome-terminal command (in terminal), it inherits environmental variables from the old terminal as any other application does. But if I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open Terminal, I get a fresh terminal. This is sometimes what I want but sometimes not. I miss the possibility to copy environmental variables from the old terminal to the new one. Option in preferences would be ok. But some way to switch the behaviour quickly would be better. For user there is no difference between the new window/tab and gnome- terminal command. Only the inheriting of environmental variables. I also noticed that there is no option to preset environmental variables for the terminal. Some combination of Profiles and .bashrc file. However this is a different bug but probably connected, so that why I'm mentioning it. [Bug 1058623] [NEW] APM settings are not persistent after a reboot
Public bug reported: In order to keep my data storage disks from slowly committing suicide by unloading their heads, I have to disable APM for both of them. Usually I would be able to do so by putting 'hdparm -B255 -S0 /dev/sdx*' in /etc/rc.local. Since Ubuntu 12.10, Palimpsest has a built-in function to modify APM settings if required. Sadly, after a reboot, these settings aren't kept. Even though the Palimpsest interface still claims APM is set to 255, running sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdx* will show the default value of 128 again. The desired behaviour is hdparm showing 'APM = off', and, more importantly, the disks not breaking themselves. The only way to keep my disks from dying is by adding /dev/sdx* { apm = 255 spindown_time = 0 } to /etc/hdparm.conf, as everything in /etc/rc.local seems to be ignored as well. The problem is no different for my SSD, but it doesn't make a difference for that one, obviously. Disabling and re-enabling the APM settings from Palimpsest does seem to work though, but it's impossible to do/remember that after every bootup. And forgetting to do so would most likely lead to premature disk failure. * 'sdx' is 'sdb' and 'sdc' in my case ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.5.3-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Sep 29 15:28:24 2012 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: gnome-disk-utility 3.6.0-0ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-16.24-generic 3.5.4 SourcePackage: gnome-disk-utility Tags: quantal Uname: Linux 3.5.0-16-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apm disk gnome quantal utility -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058623 Title: APM settings are not persistent after a reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1058623/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1036752] Re: [quantal] [regression] Gnome Classic has no compiz plugins loaded
Hi Sam, Yes the COMPIZ_CONFIG_PROFILE environment variable is still used, but if unset or the empty string compiz first checks GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID, which in quantal is currently set to 'this-is-deprecated'. If it is set, then it returns the section name as gnome_session. Doesn't really matter though, it will default to Default.ini even if the section is missing, but as far as I can tell there isn't any code that reads an ini from /etc/compizconfig/ (and just dropping a Default.ini file in there and loading the gnome classic session only loads the core and ccp plugins). I took a look at the natty package to see how it was handled there, and the code seems basically the same, so I don't think it would load an ini from /etc/compizconfig/ there either. The only difference I noticed was that /etc/compizconfig/config in natty looks like: [kde4_session] backend = kconfig4 integration = true plugin_list_autosort = true [kde_session] backend = kconfig integration = true plugin_list_autosort = true [gnome_session] backend = gconf integration = true plugin_list_autosort = true [general] backend = ini plugin_list_autosort = true [general_ubuntu] backend = gconf integration = true plugin_list_autosort = true profile = unity We only have the [general] and [general_ubuntu] sections in quantal (with the ubuntu section using gsettings now instead of gconf). We can't use gconf for gnome_session since that backend was dropped in the transition. I'd like to use gsettings but I can't figure out how to make it work since we would need to set defaults for the same key with different paths (or run a script when the user logs in checking if the key is set and then setting it, I don't really like that idea). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1036752 Title: [quantal] [regression] Gnome Classic has no compiz plugins loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1036752/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1058732] [NEW] After selecting show position of pointer when control key is pressed option, zoom (control+scroll) on applications does not work
Public bug reported: I have chosen show position of pointer when control key is pressed option from Mouse and Touchpad settings. The said functionality is working fine. Nice effect is shown under the mouse cursor if control key is pressed (which my 2.5 yr old son enjoyed a lot). Later I noticed that control scroll way of zooming in firefox doesn't work. [Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings
Hi David I don't know whether this is the right forum to continue with my problem. No doubt someone will tell me if I need to raise it else where. In any event if someone stumbles on this as I did then they may find my comments useful. I think I know what is going on in my case. When the PC powers up without the TV switched on. There is no handshake between it and the TV over the HDMI cable. The video driver defaults to the expected value but the system disables the video codec. When the TV is switched on, it does not trigger a restart of the video flgrx driver and in turn the audio remains disabled. (Wouln't it be nice if the system detected the TV and this triggers a X server restart.) I base this on my observations that a HDMI cable unplug and replug triggers a X restart and audio appears. That if I kill the video with sudo pkill X in a terminal and relogon the audio appears. If I start the PC after the TV has been switched on the audio appears. The pin 3 results are as you describe above. Further reading of forum messages on here and elsewhere seems to show that many have overcome this problem by installing the newer video drivers from AMD website. The Ubuntu ones are old and the post release fglrx update in Additional drivers does not work for me and many others from what I can see in the forums. I have not had success installing a newer driver from the AMD site, the process fails for me. I have even tried the latest beta version which apparently has Ubuntu support. I need to pursue this when I have time. I am sure that if Ctrl-Alt-Backspace was available that would be an easy way to restart the x server and the situation would be acceptable. With Mybuntu I can't enable the feature on the keyboard. I have seen that Alt (Right)- K-PrintScreen restarts the X server but not for me. I am able to add buttons to the mythtv frontend (I have buttons to Power_off and Reboot). I think I will add a button to kill the X server and it will restart. This is fine but the process does not remember that it should autologin but that is better than continually unplugging and replugging in the HDMI cable. Anyhow, that is as far as I have got. [Bug 1058810] [NEW] Accidently opening multiple .deb installation files uses all system resources
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In attempting to delete ~20 .deb files, I selected them, then I accidently pressed enter, instead of delete. This caused the system to use up almost all its resources in trying to fulfil my (accidental) commands. The cpu went to 100% usage, my 4GB of RAM was swiftly filled, the swap memory became nearly filled as well. It took a long time, but I was able to close the Software Centre instances one by one. Need a confirmation box in these sorts of cases. This would prevent the user from making a mistake like this. It had almost catastrophic consequences. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Accidently opening multiple .deb installation files uses all system resources https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058810 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
