No, It affects my Acer laptop too. Gnome-settings-daemon crashes when
pressing Fn+left/right arrows, which in my case is the XFree86 key to
control LCD brightness. However Fn+up/down arrows which is for volume
control works normally. I'm working on Ubuntu 12.10, amd64.

By the way, why do I see a lot of bugs marked as Fix Released which
 actually are still there ?

2012-10-02 Thread alokmahor
I also have same problem since ubuntu 11.04. for me this is not limited
to text editor. i face this problem everywhere except in terminal.

most of time my pointer's position changes to any random position itself. and
sometime content of last copied lined get paste itself at current position.
this spoils my text, I have to undo every time.
I am very sure that I dont touch my touchpad.
what can be wrong ? please suggest

[Bug 1059767] Re: Empathy wrong background color selection in kubuntu

2012-10-02 Thread Oliver Borm
I have reported the bug according to the description here:

https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Bugs/Reporting#Filing_bugs_at_Launchpad.net

So kubuntu related bugs are reported side by side to plain ubuntu bugs.
Please RTFM before you shout !

But as I have reported a problem with empathy, I don't think it is a
kubuntu related bug itself but with empathy.

[Bug 1049028] Re: Unable to create gmail account

2012-10-02 Thread Julien Olivier
Related to this bug is the fact that you need to manually add the Google
email, contacts and calendar even though they are already configured in
gnome-online-accounts. The expected behaviour is that you add your gmail
address in gnome-online-accounts, and - automagically - the IMAP
account, the contacts and the calendar(s) are configured in Evolution.
This is how it works in Empathy.

[Bug 1060060] [NEW] Unable to modify empathy accounts in gnome-online-accounts

2012-10-02 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

Using gnome-shell, I want to modify empathy accounts, so I click on
accounts in empathy main menu, and nothing happens. However, if I go
to the gnome-online-accounts settings and add an account, it sucessfully
appears in Empathy. So I guess Empathy accounts main menu entry should
simply display goa settings in the control center.

PS: I'm using ubuntu-gnome-desktop, so I don't use ubuntu-online-
accounts.

[Bug 1060107] [NEW] brasero doesn't see my CD burner

2012-10-02 Thread GeorgeDunlap
Public bug reported:

I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.10 server install CD, but brasero doesn't
seem to recognize my CD burner. Below are the steps I took:

1. Running brasero with just the image file

brasero /build/tmp/ubuntu-12.10-beta-server.iso

The window comes up and recognizes the .iso file, but doesn't see any
devices I can write to. There's a blank CD in the drive.

2. Running brasero normally, and clicking Burn Image.

Same thing happens -- after selecting the .iso file, it doesn't see any
devices.

3. Trying to specify the device path

I tried passing --device= for the following devices: /dev/sdc,
/dev/sg0, /dev/sg2, like so:

brasero -i /build/tmp/ubuntu-12.10-beta1-server-amd64.iso
--device=/dev/sdc

I also tried just passing sdc (i.e., no /dev path).

In all cases, it just popped up a window saying: Wrong Command Line
Option. /dev/sdc cannot be found.

However, the file is certainly there:

$ ls -l /dev/sdc
brw-rw 1 root disk 8, 32 Sep 24 09:57 /dev/sdc

And there don't seem to be any issues in dmesg:

[4.572476] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access Generic Ultra HS-SD/MMC 1.82
PQ: 0 ANSI: 0

This would probably fit into the Gnome disk utility. But the default

[Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected

2012-10-02 Thread Victor Zamanian
I'm very late to this party, but:

We have FAR more pressing problems on the discretion front. Top of my
list is the fact that we don't map notifications away from projectors.
That's far more risky - you can control your choice of wallpaper, but
you can't control what someone might IM to you while you are making your
critical presentation.

So, please help us address that issue. I'm sure we all agree that's more
important, and perhaps, by the time we come back to this less important
issue, we will all have evolved our positions. OK?

By your logic, a perfectly acceptable solution to this is to just
uninstall notifications. Or uninstall their IM program. Simple right? Or
just not use Ubuntu! Or the regular user could just patch it themselves!
Oh how simple. All your reasons for ignoring this option are perfectly
applicable to the more pressing issue you described. In my experience,
the amount of people who have offensive (or private as I'd much
rather call them, because offensive is surely a very small subset of
private) wallpapers is much greater than the amount of people who use
projectors while their IM program is running.

And what! I think I just solved your pressing problem -- just turn
your IM program off? Could it be that simple? Otherwise, uninstall it.

I'm sorry for any unwarranted sarcasm or spitefulness, but this bug
report thread made me really, really sad about Ubuntu's attitude and
priorities at the top of the mound. :-\

With love,
Victor

I also wonder why Canonical doesn't change their update policy and
upstreams important 'user applications' as soon as there is an update
package available. Stuff like Gimp, LibreOffice, etc. should get an
updated PPA shortly after the update is available, not after months!

[Bug 1060276] [NEW] Cannot drop files into current folder

2012-10-02 Thread xapp
Public bug reported:

In Nautilus list view, if there are no empty rows, it is not possible to
drop files into the current directory. You can only drop on a folder, or
a file.

In keeping with previous versions of Nautilus and Windows and most other
file managers, you should ALWAYS be able to drop files into the current
directory.

To reproduce:
- open Nautilus and make sure list view is enabled
- navigate to a folder with enough folders/files in it to fill the view (or
just resize the window to make the scroll-bar appear)
- open another Nautilus window and drag a file or files over the list of files
in the other Nautilus window
- it is not possible to drop the files in the current directory; you can only
drop it into a folder or a file (in the latter case, Nautilus will ask you if
you want to create a directory with the same name as the file)

You should be able to drop files onto any available white-space and have
those files copied to the current directory.

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2012-10-02 Thread Jacob Winski
Why is this not fixed if all it takes is to remove a horribly written
patch?

Precise 12.04 still has this behaviour.

Basically, right now there are only two very ugly fixes: either turn off
xrandr support or media-keys. The first is unacceptable if you use
multiple monitors (me) and the second if you use media keys (me). So
someone that needs both (me) has a big problem.

This forced shortcut caused me a ton of troubles and wasted time. Just
because there is broken hardware out there does not mean you should
force a broken fix down everyone's throat.

Please someone revert this horrible patch.

In case someone wants to know how to disable xrandr | media keys:
1) install dconf-editor
2) uncheck activate in org - gnome - settings-daemon - plugins -
media-keys | xrandr

[Bug 1060310] [NEW] Unable to create folder for files being extracted from archive

2012-10-02 Thread Konrad Świat
Public bug reported:

If you try to create a folder for files you need to extract into folder
that is modified by downloading something, field where you type a name
for new folder quickly disappears, folder is not created. Archive type
does not matter.

This does not occur, when folder is modified by extracting something
else into it.

1. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in for
example /home/ttt/Downloads/, while downloading sth.yyy into
/home/ttt/Downloads/ - unable to create new_folder

2. extracting archive.rar into new_folder you try to create in
/home/ttt/Downloads/, while extracting something else into

[Bug 1021183] Re: after some time when evolution runs in a wild loop of fetching messages and removing messages from cache

2012-10-02 Thread Nicolas Krzywinski
Today I catched Evolution at a stage where it seems to be in an earlier
stage of looping.

For this situation _it seems_ that it got trapped at fetching
informations of emails from the draft folder again and again and again.
Clearing the draft folder via the other clients and restarting Evolution
solved this.
