[Bug 250517] Re: gvfs performs slowly on bulk sftp transfers

2012-10-03 Thread martinr
I also ran into the same problem on LUbuntu 10.04, which increases big file
transfers times with hours.

Could it be that sftp from Nautilus selects a different cipher for its
encryption?
Presumably des (the default protocol 1 cipher), judging from the speed drop
compared to plain sftp?

For full details see this posting:

I just verified that Empathy saves my inital alias, it is just not able to
update it.
We was able to change my alias by deleting my account and set up a new one.

[Bug 1021245] Re: Error saving bibtex files

2012-10-03 Thread Sam M
Ok, after fixing that, I started to get other error messages about attributes
not existing, etc.
It seems the function BibTexEditor._parse() is generally broken. So I have
removed the call to _parse() in BibTexEditor.onsave

Comment out line 92 in /usr/lib/gedit/plugins/latex/bibtex/editor.py

Now the file saves; but you get no warning or error messages if there is
a problem with your file.

Yes, it shouldn't be there, or whatever type_record was previously will
get reset, which is probably a bad thing. Apologies for being hasty.

[Bug 1021245] Re: Error saving bibtex files

2012-10-03 Thread Sam M
The plugin appears to be attempting to clear a marker "bibtex-error"
that doesn't exist.

Change /usr/lib/gedit/plugins/latex/editor.py", line 493 to check
whether a key actually exists or not before trying to remove it.

Insert:
if (not marker_type in self._marker_types.keys()):
type_record.markers = []
return

Before line 493:
type_record = self._marker_types[marker_type]

This appears to fix the problem for me... I don't actually know how the
markers are supposed to function, or why the plugin tries to clear one
that doesn't exist. I assume they are related to the information that
gedit displays in the bottom panel.

seem to tell me when I press keys like enter to move on. Other apps are

[Bug 896595] Re: Ubuntu does not remember LID brightness

2012-10-03 Thread Quim Gil
Hi, not sure whether this is the same bug but reporting anyway, just in
case it's useful:

Running Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 64 on a Lenovo T430. Brightness control
works well both with Fn F8/F9 and with the settings window. Logging out
and in preserves the previous brightness value. But shutting down or
restarting brings back the 100% brightness.

Not the end of the world but annoying, yes.

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-10-03 Thread parq
Ernst,

If you follow the comments you'll figure out that some time the computer
should shut down and some time it shouldn't, depending on the user
requesting the shut down and the amount of users logged in.

After some comments, we're proposing some ideas of how it could be shown
or communicated to the user / admin that is requesting the action.

The examples of my last comment has to be connected with the others
examples of previous comments, then having this result, for instance:

"You, Florian, ethanay, daniel, Lionel and 3 more are logged."
"You just can't turn off the computer because there are more users logged.
Please talk to an admin." [ok]

(this is the case where a user request a shut down when the are 8 people
logged in)

---

Anyway, the case you say in your comment has been commented before, and the
main idea is that your wife will be able to shut down the system in the
following cases:
- She is an admin
- She is an user and is the only one logged in the computer

---

Your proposal related to org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop-
multiple-users, as far as I know, allow to any user to shut down the
system (please correct me if I'm wrong). This solution was discussed as
a preliminary workaround, until this bug had been corrected properly.

[Bug 1060852] Re: [Precise only] accessible for rename text entry isn't marked "editable"

2012-10-03 Thread Michael Terry
** Description changed:

- Dear Ubuntu developers,
-
- Sebastien request in bug 1035273 I opening a new bug only with Ubuntu 12.04
related.
+ [Impact]
In Nautilus 3.4 version accessible for rename text entry isn't marked
editable. This bug resulting a11y tools (for example Onboard, Orca Screen
Reader) doesn't get accessibility related informations if the user want
renaming a file, creating a new document or a new folder. If the user try
moving arrow keys for example the entry fields between characters, Orca Screen
Reader doesn't spokening or presenting braille the highlighted character. If
the user want deleting a character, in the braille display the change is not
wisible, and Orca doesn't have possibility to spokening the deleted character.
- Upstream level after 3.4.2 Nautilus maintenance version this bug is fixed,
but unfortunately GNOME developers after 3.4.2 release doesn't releasing new
3.4 series maintenance release.
- In Ubuntu 12.10 release the new backported Nautilus
3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu3 release this bug this day fixed.

Because worldwide lot of people using a11y products, and Ubuntu 12.04 is
an LTS release, please fix this issue in Precise too if release related
rules awailable this. We have lucky, because already have upstream level
created safe fix for 3.4 series.

- Sebastien request me the wrote report to I create a debdiff for Precise
- awailable package. I will be attaching this file short time later.
+ This is fixed in upstream 3.4.x trunk (not released yet, but that's
+ where this patch comes from) and 3.5.x. Also fixed in quantal.

- Attila
+ [Test Case]
+ 1) Open orca, having it read UI elements aloud
+ 2) Open nautilus
+ 3) Start renaming a file
+ 4) Move cursor between characters

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
- Package: nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu4
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-32.51-generic-pae 3.2.30
- Uname: Linux 3.2.0-32-generic-pae i686
- ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu13
- Architecture: i386
- Date: Wed Oct 3 11:45:16 2012
- GsettingsChanges:
- org.gnome.nautilus.window-state geometry '800x550+0+24'
- org.gnome.nautilus.window-state start-with-sidebar false
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Beta i386 (20120327)
- SourcePackage: nautilus
- UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
+ You should hear orca read each character as you move past it (c.f. doing
+ the same in gedit).
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This patch only deals with accessibility code, so I would expect any problems
to be there.

[Bug 459851] Re: can't use CTRL + C for copy'n' ctrl + v for paste

This bug is this on for me as well, Ubuntu 12.04 (and 11.10). I
experience this problem since more than a year. It might sounds like
minor issue, but it's actually a very big issue usability-wise.

I've had hundreds of times when I though I copy-paste properly and I
didn't, because of that bug. It would be greatly appreciated if someone
can investigate it and fix it.

Thanks a lot!

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-10-03 Thread bwat47
@Ernst Sjöstrand (ernstp)

That's pretty much what everyone else is already saying: By default when
you shutdown with other users logged in, it should prompt saying other
users are logged in, are you sure?, and then let you shutdown if you hit
ok. The other suggestions here are just ways to make that even more user
friendly, such as telling you exactly who is logged in etc...

The prompt is very necessary, since shutting down with other users
logged in can cause data loss, so the user must be informed of this
before continuing with the shutdown. This is the same behavior windows 7
uses by default and it does work well :)

[Bug 1061215] [NEW] Rubberband on desktop is theme color instead of background average

The rubber band on the desktop is based on the color of the theme

[Bug 1060722] Re: Nautilus does not obey Previews preferences for files other than pictures

2012-10-03 Thread Lisa Schmidt
** Description changed:

Setting Nautilus preferences for previews to generate thumbnails only
for files smaller than X does not have any effect on non-images.

For example, if I set in Nautilus preferences to show thumbnails only
for files smaller than 10 MB. Then Nautilus generates thumbnails only
for images smaller than 10 MB -- but not for any other file type.
Nautilus still generates thumbnails for non-images, such as videos or
pdf files, regardless of their file size.

This is a huge problem for users who have lots of big sized video files
and don't want them to get thumbnailed, but want to keep thumbnailing
  for pictures.
+
+ It gets especially annoying when downloading huge video files. Then the
+ thumbnailing process goes on and on unless the file has finished
+ downloading. As a user I feel forced to switch off thumbnailing
+ completely as Nautilus fails to obey what is being set in the
+ preferences.

** Summary changed:

- Nautilus does not obey Previews preferences for files other than pictures
+ Nautilus does not obey Previews preferences for non-images

[Bug 1061195] [NEW] Can't create EWS or MAPI account

2012-10-03 Thread Steve Riley
Public bug reported:

Evolution appears unable to create an EW or MAPI account. All the steps
proceed normally, including fetching the URL (for EWS) or authenticating
(for MAPI). However, at the conclusion of account creation process, no
actual account appears in the list.

I've tried starting Evolution from the command line using various DEBUG_
variables and there are no EWS- or MAPI-specific errors. So I'm not
exactly sure what to do next.

I am fairly certain the problem doesn't lie with my corporate Exchange
server, as web mail works fine and any other EWS-capable client (like
the mail app in Android).

[Bug 1049028] Re: Unable to create gmail account

2012-10-03 Thread paraiko
additionally: I managed to add my gmail account to evo by unchecking the
contacts/calendar boxes
I also manually added contacts to evolution from the contacts tab and it works.
I could now also display my google contacts in the gnome-contacts app while
this was previously not possible, both contacts and calendar did not showup
after adding my gmail account to gnome-online-accounts.

To me this still feels as if it is not an evo bug, but something related
to the (gnome-)online-accounts plumbing in ubuntu, but unfortunately a
feeling is not the same as proof ;)

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-10-03 Thread Ernst Sjöstrand
Why are you talking about notifications and password prompts, the computer
should shut down (by default) of course!
It could prompt and say "X is logged in, are you really sure you want to shut
down?" but nothing more. If an admin wants to disable it there should be a way
to do that instead.
Let's say I'm logged in but I'm not at home and my wife wants to shut down the
computer. Of course she should be allowed to!

Therefore I think setting org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop-
multiple-users to allow_active=yes is a great and correct solution.
What's missing there is a local override solution so and admin of a
multi-seat server could turn it off for example without having it
overwritten everytime policykit updates.

[Bug 1060586] Re: facebook publishing doesn't work

Daniel,

note that the Ubuntu Online Services integration is an Ubuntu extension

you build Shotwell from the source tarball from Yorba, you'll be able to
use classic Facebook publishing without Ubuntu Online Services.

[Bug 1060586] Re: facebook publishing doesn't work

2012-10-03 Thread Daniel Clark
Under Unity, this does indeed work. I agree with you that this needs to
be pointed to / configurable from within Shotwell, as it wouldn't be
obvious to many users that a Facebook account is a system-wide setting.
So as you have done I agree with keeping the bug open for that reason.

I personally really dislike the design decision to integrate an
application so closely with a specific desktop environment. I use Xfce
because I can't stand Unity (or GNOME 3), so I am unable to use this
feature of Shotwell, which means I'll need to find some other photo
management application. That's out of the scope of this bug report, so
I'll open another with that issue. (I realize that maybe I could
temporarily use Unity just to make this setting, however I am running
into another bug in the display manager configuration that makes that
not possible at the moment :-/ )
