[Bug 1073425] [NEW] Please eject disc from image file manaully
Public bug reported: When using the disc copy feature at the end of the 1st stage image creation phase I receive the above message even though the disc has successfully ejected. The problem is that although you can remove the source disc and insert the destination disc you cannot proceed to the second stage disk write phase. The dialog box "Please eject the disk manually" has only one option "Cancel" which cancels the entire process sending you back to the start where you cannot find the image created in the 1st stage. Putting in the destination blank disc before canceling the dialog box and selecting Brasero from the quick launch dialog also does not allow access to the created disc image which is stored nowhere I could find. I reported this problem in 2009 using ubuntu 8.04 and 9.10 on another machine so cannot understand why this is still not resolved in 2012 in ubuntu 12.04? I have never seen disc copy to a single drive work on any machine in any version of ubuntu although if you copy to image and later make a disk from the image file you can work a round this behaviour. Also the image creation process is very slow compared to other disk copy solutions. Please fix or remove the option. Re: [Bug 733866] Re: Battery indicator shows "Laptop battery is charged" when is not
Tested on 12.10: Same behaviour. (Battery status stays "charged" after removing charging power.) Discovered a work-around to get the is to unplug from charge for a second or two, then plug in again for a second and then unplug it again before the battery status has returned to fully charged. I also found that suspending and waking the computer also gets the battery indicator working again. [Bug 1067901] Re: can't configure any accounts in empathy
As I said in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/1060060 (now marked as a duplicate of this one): The bug is about the fact that it doesn't work when gnome-control- center-signon is not installed. On 12.04 it is still faulty. (I have not tried 12.10.) Shows fully charged and still on power after being unplugged and allowed to run flat. It works perfectly if unplugged before booting Ubuntu. If put on charge while the indicator is working, and allowed to become fully charged, then the indicator gets stuck again. [Bug 963125] Re: Alt-Tab window switcher lost
Adding packages gnome-settings-daemon and gsettings-desktop-schemas, as a "fix" could be done in either. The issue appears to be that dconf stores the keybindings in arrays of strings, and when set there, gnome-settings-daemon will transition those settings to gconf as defined by /usr/share/GConf/gsettings/wm- schemas.convert. metacity expects those keybindings to just be strings, not lists of strings, so after the conversion, metacity can't read the keybindings. Possible solutions would be 1. Allow conversion to a string, which is probably a challenging task, especially if the array in dconf contains multiple values. the .convert files would have to indicate that a type change is required, which would be a syntax change from existing files, and probably not worth the effort. 2. Just remove these keybindings from the .convert files. [Bug 1071345] Re: empathy contacts list compact mode is missing in 3.6
I am the original reporter of this bug. Please do not hijack this bug report. This bug report deals with the disappearance of the "compact" mode for the contacts list. [Bug 1071950] Re: gnome-settings-daemon dconf to gconf plugin causes settings to be lost
** Description changed: + Impact: + Using dconf profiles can lead to gconf keys to be overwritten with wrong values, it's especially impact some desktop settings and compiz + + Test Case: + + $ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --type bool false + $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds + false + + Then editing some file under /etc/dconf and running dconf update: + + $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver + $ sudo dconf update + $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds + true + + Regression potential: + Some of the gsettings could not be written back to gconf which could impact legacy applications which are still reading the gconf value + + -- + This was tested in a fresh installed precise machine, with the addition of dconf and a particular dconf configuration. Settings set in gconf backend get overwritten when running 'dconf update'. This can be tested by changing any value in gconf to something different than the default: $ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --type bool false $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds false $ gconftool --set /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode --type string sloppy $ gconftool --get /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode sloppy Then editing some file under /etc/dconf and running dconf update: - $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver + $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver $ sudo dconf update $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds true $ gconftool --get /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode click After talking about this with Ryan Lortie, he suggested disabling the gnome-settings-daemon plugin: $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.gconf active false $ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --type bool false $ gconftool --set /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode --type string sloppy - $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver + $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver $ sudo dconf update $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds false $ gconftool --get /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode sloppy It looks like the gconf plugin is overwriting all the settings with the defaults, thus losing anything the user had customized. It's quite likely that a number of other bugs "Compiz loses my settings" are actually caused by this plugin. Also, as instructed by Ryan, I tried removing /usr/share/GConf/gsettings /wm-schemas.convert and re-enabling the plugin, and then it doesn't override any values that are related to the window manager but it does override the one in the example: $ gsettings reset org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.gconf active $ gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.gconf active true $ gconftool --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --type bool false $ gconftool --set /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode --type string sloppy - $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver + $ sudo vi /etc/dconf/db/site.d/screensaver $ sudo dconf update $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds true $ gconftool --get /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode sloppy So, focus_mode didn't get overwritten while event_sounds did. One possible solution is to remove the wm-schemas so that compiz settings don't get lost. A better (but probably harder) solution would be to fix the plugin so that it doesn't overwrite what the user sets. Maybe just remove the schemas that are being modified and stored in gconf for Precise. I found out that to reproduce in a fresh installed precise machine, I had to set up some dconf files, then reboot, and then I could reproduce consistently as explained here. I'm attaching a bunch of dconf files. After unpacking, you need to run dconf update once to generate the db and then reboot. After that it should be reproducible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071950 Title: gnome-settings-daemon dconf to gconf plugin causes settings to be lost To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1071950/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I can also confirm the same error, just after a 12.10 upgrade. I also found that mails below some limit (like 800-1000 plain ASCII chars) send OK, but longer ones fail, even if the mail is still plain ASCII. Rebuilding Evo ('stable' 3.6.1 from the Gnome download site), did not help either, so I have created the following bugreport for Evolution: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687179 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #687179 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687179 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053510 Title: Unable to send Email: "The reported error was "Impossible d'envoyer le message : WriteStream : Erreur MAPI MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED (0x80004005)" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1053510/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 887983] Re: Preview pane does not refresh after previewing a very large message
Update: On another bugreport for the same issue, someone recommended this workaround : LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 exec evolution This will disable the new fancy scrollbars for evolution, but will also make it immune to the above bug. One can make a wrapper script to launch evolution with this environment variable. Someone should check this bug out, it's clear that either evolution or some toolkit components (gtk/gdk) has an issue with those new scrollbars. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887983 Title: Preview pane does not refresh after previewing a very large message To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/887983/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1072686] [NEW] 12.10 tries to mount CD/DVD drive as floppy disk
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Fresh install of 12.10 results in the system trying to mount a second CD/DVD optical drive (internal) as floppy drive. The system is currently set up with two optical drives, one master and one slave. The system identifies the drive as /dev/fdo and tries to mount it on /mnt/fd0. It simply hangs in the "mounting drive" state. Ready to go, imho. Marga: one tiny point that I missed the first time around. GObject signals are nominally written like "signal-name" rather than "signal_name". > Is this mean your patch won't work when Alt (or Ctrl) is pressed before > Shift? It does not mean that. I just restricted to three examples. There is no problem to rewrite all options that xkeyboard-config offers to switch groups to take advantage of the patch. > AFAIK most people press Ctrl, then Shift, then either release them (to > switch layout) or press A-Z when they need Ctrl-Shift-something hotkey. In this case, one needs to remap the shift key. For the left shift key: key { repeat= No, type[Group1]="PC_CONTROL_LEVEL2", symbols[Group1]= [ Shift_L, Shift_L ], actions[Group1]= [ SetMods(modifiers=Shift), Private(type=3,data[0]=1,data[1]=1,data[2]=1,data[3]=0,data[4]=0,data[5]=0,data[6]=1) ] }; For the right shift key it works similarly. OR, not AND. I use right Alt for layout > switching so I can't use it for any other purpose. Hi, Actually, the patch works for key shortcuts with two or more buttons (like ALT+SHIFT, but not Alt or Ctrl alone). It is not done intentionally. Despite the fact that there is a possibility to improve current patch behaviour for needs like yours I don't think it should be improved for all possible cases - there are many other things to be done to make the world a better place. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36812 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/36812/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36812]
Created attachment 69198 LockMods can lock another group This patch follows a different route: It extends modifier locking, rather than changing how group lock works. Extending has the advantage that the previous behaviour is maintained, and the patch does not violate the X Keyboard Protocol Specification. Extending modifier locking rather than group locking has the advantage that we do not need the "Kludge" of the other patch, as we can pass the modifiers that we want to set, rather then relying on heuristics. The disadvantage over the existing patch is that we must change the keymap. Here are three examples. The left alt key is to switch to the next layout when it is pressed and released before any other key is pressed. key { repeat= No, type= "TWO_LEVEL", symbols[Group1]= [ Alt_L, Meta_L ], actions[Group1]= [ Private(type=3,data[0]=1,data[1]=8,data[2]=8,data[3]=0,data[4]=0,data[5]=0,data[6]=1), Private(type=3,data[0]=1,data[1]=8,data[2]=8,data[3]=0,data[4]=0,data[5]=0,data[6]=1) ] }; Similarly, shifting group with Shift+Right Alt (where Shift is pressed first): -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36812 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/36812/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
