[Bug 1080584] [NEW] rhythmbox mp3 and ogg ripping of cds fails

2012-11-18 Thread Ben
Public bug reported:

When starting to rip CD tracks to mp3 files (or ogg), rhythmboox
complains about missing plugins and starts downloading them. After
sucessfull download, the ripping fails. Watching the plugin install, I
think I have seen some text regrading "i386", while I use a 64-bit
platform? Two weeks ago the ripping worked fine (and without previous
download of plugins).

Hi Sebastien,

The regression will happen on some oem preinstall machine with precise
if user upgrade gnome-control-center to version 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.

I also verified on a fresh 12.10 64bit with fully update the packages
with/without proposal archive, the issue still occurred, same steps to
reproduce in #20.

These files also cause K3B to crash.
These files play fine from the hard disk in every player I've tried, but that
does not let me listen to this album in my car.
I have not been able to find any burning software that can burn these files.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

On Laptop system there are two ways to change monitor brightness.

The first is with the gnome control center -> adjusting the brightness
  bar.

The second way is to use keybord shortcuts for the monitor brightness.
-> In this case unity shows a wiget on the desktop with a bar for
  brightness.

Unfortunally the bar status of both ways are not synchronized.

For illustrating please look at the attached screenshot.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Raring on a laptop system
2.Use the system center option to adjust the monitor brightness.
3.Use (if available) keybord shortcuts to adjust the monitor brightness.
4.See that both brighness bar differ.

  Additional:

On the system I use brightness is not really adjustable(kernelbug), but
anyway the both bars should not differ in anyway.

It seems that mostly systems with ext3 root file systems (like mine) are
affected, so the correct fix should be adding acl support like Yann
Aubert suggested.

[Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work

2012-11-18 Thread Tomdkat
I just ran into this problem trying to mount a SD card. ALL of my
filesystems, except for one, are ext3. One is ext4. My root filesystem
is ext3.

So, two of the above workarounds look better to me than manually
creating /media/$USER. Which would be best:

A) Adding 'tmpfs/media tmpfs defaults 0 0' to
/etc/fstab

B) Adding '/dev/ / ext3 acl,errors=remount-ro 0 1; tp /etc/fstab

Thanks!

[Bug 1080367] [NEW] can not select drive containing media that I want to create an image of

2012-11-18 Thread Book 'em Dano
Public bug reported:

I selected the option to created a 1:1 ISO image of a CD, but in the
'Copy CD/DVD' window when I select the 'Select disc to copy' expanded
list I can not drive the drive that contains the media that I want to
copy. I see the option I want to select but when I click on it that
option is not displayed, only a blank field is displayed. Since I can
not select an option, I can not proceed to copy the CD

I should be able to select the drive that contains the media that I want
to copy and then proceed to copy the CD.

[Bug 1052418] Re: Transfer files to tablet brakes sd card and makes a read only file system

2012-11-18 Thread Chris Davis
well it is still doing the same thing plus it happened to some body named
Kulix, they posted it on the forums along with mine.
But now in Quantum Quetzle it is still doing it, it even ruined a new media
player that I got just to try it.
But that is still breaking media players, and now System log is gone, and now
you made it so no more full-screen videos on the internet too.
Why are you making so many things quit working like they ues to?

additional info: The following actions work normally on the command

sudo pm-suspend <-- suspends the system, wakes up normally

manual tweaks in the initrd image to get it working with encrypted-swap)

[Bug 1080344] Re: No effect on Suspend and Hibernate buttons in power button shutdown dialog

2012-11-18 Thread Corvus Corax
When running gnome-settings-daemon in debug mode (executed manually with
--debug option) the following line shows up every time the power button
is pressed:

(gnome-settings-daemon:4022): media-keys-plugin-DEBUG: Launching action for key
type '45' (on device id 6)
(gnome-settings-daemon:4022): media-keys-plugin-DEBUG: Launching action for key
type '45' (on device id 6)
(gnome-settings-daemon:4022): media-keys-plugin-DEBUG: Launching action for key
type '45' (on device id 6)
(gnome-settings-daemon:4022): media-keys-plugin-DEBUG: Launching action for key
type '45' (on device id 6)

no debug info is printed when hitting either suspend, hibernate or
cancel buttons, but the same line shows up if the power button is
pressed again.

I am attaching two logfiles with the debug output of gnome-settings-
daemon invoked with --debug, once with the "restart" button hit and once
with "shutdown"

[Bug 1080344] [NEW] No effect on Suspend and Hibernate buttons in power button shutdown dialog

2012-11-18 Thread Corvus Corax
Public bug reported:

When the power button on a laptop is pressed while the unity desktop

ask the user whether he wants to

if no action is taken, the "Shutdown" feature is auto-executed abter 60
seconds.

Of these, only "Shutdown" and "Cancel" always have the intended effect,
where "Shutdown" invokes a shutdown of the system and "Cancel" simply
closes the dialog.

"Restart" causes a system restart in about 99% of the cases only,
however I had seen occasions where only the session got terminated and

[Bug 1080328] [NEW] On double click, Nautilus opens the file with the wrong application

2012-11-18 Thread wim sturkenboom
Public bug reported:

Observed behaviour
Assume I have a file called screenshot.png and double click it; Nautilus will
start the image viewer. If I omit the extension, Nautilus is clever enough to
figure it out and open it with the image viewer. If I'm however stupid enough
to rename the file to screenshot.txt, Nautilus decides that it's no longer an
image and opens with a texteditor (or attempts to).

Expected behaviour
Nautilus should use the file content to determine the type of file and the
associated application instead of extensions.

Reported for Ubuntu 12.04; also observed with an up-to-date 10.04 and
also reported to be the case on 13.04 (see

[Bug 1042456] Re: Huawei e398 doesn't work

2012-11-18 Thread Marius Kotsbak
It seems like the modem disconnects right after it has connected. I see
that the signal level is 2 of 5. What happens if you try to set the
connection to use only 2G or 3G?

There is work underway upstream to support connecting to the modem using
QMI protocol, but that is probably not ready at earliest for Ubuntu
13.04. It will probably improve performance, but it seems like the modem
should work without also.

[Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access

2012-11-18 Thread Timothy Arceri
Turns out this was not fixed in gtk+3 either but I have submitted a
patch upstream that allows mounted network locations to appear in the
file chooser
