[Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work
Thanks Jan for pointing these out. That's a little worrying as this essentially means that programs can't use ACLs. But at least we now know the root cause, so let's make udisks resistant to that. For the record, this is another consequence of not using /run/media/. At some point I'd like to move to a tmpfs /media (with a symlink, bind mount, etc.), but of course not for a Quantal update. ** Project changed: linux => udisks ** Changed in: udisks2 (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1048059 Title: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/udisks/+bug/1048059/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'm closing this because it is assigned to the wrong package and developers won't see it here. Some of these missing icons were fixed in my upload today of gnome-themes-standard to raring for Ubuntu 13.04. [Bug 1079953] Re: Main Menu Editor alacarte is Completely Broken in xubuntu 12.10
I can confirm that the updated version of alacarte currently in quantal- proposed does restore some functionality as regards the first three items mentioned in my earlier post (tick boxes, create new menu items, delete menu items). However -- Drag and drop of a menu item within a menu folder (rearrange menu item order) still does not work. -- Drag and drop of a menu item from one menu folder to another still does not work. -- Moving a menu item up or down within a menu folder with the arrow keys can only be done one position at the time. This takes about 15 seconds the be effected per step. Until this step takes effect, further clicks on the up or down arrow keys are ignored. During this process alacarte claims 95%-100% of CPU and over 50MiB of memory for a fresh standard installation of xubuntu 12.10 with only some 15 additional menu items. -- Ticking or unticking a menu item box, adding new menu items, and deleting menu items makes similarly excessive time, CPU and memory demands. In summary, the alacarte update works in a way, but slower than my pet escargot which is not à la carte. [Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work
@Martin Pitt: > As a last resort I can still make udisks get along without ACL support, > but this would be a bad and incomplete workaround for the root problem. > There's certainly other software which wants ACLs to work, so I'd like to > get this fixed properly rather. Most applications don't need ACL support, and even udisks2 only seems to "need" it to set the ACL when creating that directory, but seems to work fine otherwise if the directory is created manually without the ACL. (It is also the only location in the udisks2 sources where any ACL-functions are used.) [Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open
This problem is also present in KDE, so it's not a bug exclusive to gnome-screensaver. As was said before, this is a problem with the way X was designed, and the solutions imply either re-designing X (I doubt there are many people up to such a task) or working around it. For suspend/hibernate there's the inhibitor locks design doc from Freedesktop, that could allow adding some hooks and forcing pop-up windows to close just before suspending: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit It's a different story when trying to manually lock (ctrl-alt-l), since the keyboard is grabbed by the pop-up, no application receives the lock combination and no application can then act appropriately. In any case it's quite a hard bug to fix, that requires a well thought solution, not a quick hack to fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49579 Title: screen doesn't lock when some menu is open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-screensaver/+bug/49579/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Jerre mentioned that in an earlier comment. I can create a new ext2 partition here with working ACLs. Even when I do sudo tune2fs -E mount_opts="noacl" /dev/sdb on my local test partition, dumpe2fs doesn't change the default mount options, but has a new fiield "Mount options", which isn't being considered. That smells like another bug, but is not quite related to this change. Jerre is using the -lowlatency kernel, but as far as I can see, ACL support is enabled there for all relevant file systems (grep FS.*ACL /boot/config-3.5.0-18-lowlatency).
