[Bug 24430] Re: "connect to server" feature don't manage NFS shares

2012-12-17 Thread Jochen Fahrner
In comment #20 Eugene wrote there is a workaround for this problem. I
have read the thread at bugzilla.gnome.org but don't understand what
exactly the workaround is? Please can someone describe how this
workaround works?

[Bug 1091514] [NEW] Unable to play any media files

2012-12-17 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
Public bug reported:

I am unable to play any media files or even any online media. I've tried
mp3 and ogg files through Banshee and Totem, and even YouTube in Chrome
doesn't work.

Sometimes it's a crackling skipping sound, while others it just crashes
the player at the start of the file.

I'm happy to debug, but I don't know where to start with audio/media
issues.

[Bug 1089448] Re: Problem with brightness control since last update

2012-12-17 Thread Matthias
Same Problem here. It´s an regression after updating from
3.2.0-33-generic to 3.2.0-34-generic!

Workaround:

start old 3.2.0-33-generic in grub bootloader manually and everything
works fine

or

prepare the bootmenu (for example with "grub customizer") and set the
"3.2.0-33-generic" as default

[Bug 1091496] [NEW] Primary Display intermittently switches from external to notebook display

2012-12-17 Thread David A. Kra
Public bug reported:

warning: Package might be x-windows, gnome, or nvidia driver

Bug Behavior: When I step away from the computer or I KVM switch to
another computer for several minutes, when I come back the internal
display is now the primary. The symptom is that the gnome Applications,
Places, Widgets and Notifications bar has shifted to the internal
display. This did not happen with lucid 10.04. This did not happen
initially with 12.04.

Remediation: Leave the "NVIDIA x Server Settings" program running. When
the problem occurs, switch to the program, click "Make this the primary
display for the X Screen" then click APPLY.

This differs from Bug #1080952 and from Bug #950194 in that this
happens without any kind of restart or resumption or even screen
blanking.

[Bug 41427] Re: "slow keys" can turn on surreptitiously & cause confusion.

2012-12-17 Thread adbot
For a solution that worked for me, you can look at the comment linked
here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=816764#c42

Pasting here:
Create a new file in /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/ with a number prefix (the highest one
in the directory, e.g. 01-no-a11y-keyboard) with the following content:

[org/gnome/desktop/a11y/keyboard]
enable=false

Then run 'dconf update': this should create new /etc/dconf/db/gdm
settings database.

Then restart gdm...

IMO this is a GDM bug that needs fixing upstream.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2012-12-17 Thread Ignacio Martin Rodriguez
@Dario, I completely agree with you.
This feature should be added to nautilus in the same way OSX implements it, not
the windows way. It would even be touch friendly.
This is one example of the reasons why people critizise gnome devs. This is not
about people asking for features and not contributing, but rejecting people's
contributions because they think to know best what users need. Even removing
features has been a gnomish feature for so long.

[Bug 1091377] [NEW] No obvious way to add network printer with gnome-control-center printers applet

2012-12-17 Thread Karl Kropf
Public bug reported:

With a fresh install of 12.10 (after successfully using 12.04 on another
partition of the same machine) I found I could not add my network
printer (on a synology ds211j). I went to System Settings>Printers and
while the correct printer had been identified, it was identified as a
local printer. In trying to add another (click +), there was no option
to add a network printer. The search panel was not any obvious use:
what 'address' is needed? I tried the nas server name, to which the
printer is attached, but nothing came up. (see attached screen-grab:
the printer was attached and on...)

In the end I had to use the system-config-printer applet and
successfully added the network printer, which showed up in the control
centre applet afterwards but the location is '--'. The system-config-
printer applet was simple and straightforward to use, mainly because it
identified the network printer immediately.

If this is not technically a bug it presents a serious gap between what
the control centre application might reasonably be expected to do and
what it is able to do in a straight forward way.

[Bug 954352] Re: Enable wayland backend

2012-12-17 Thread Iain Lane
Oh, I'm sorry but this isn't going to be possible.

Extra backends get compiled right into GDK. This means that libgtk-3-0
gets a dependency on wayland and libxkbcommon and there's no way to
split it out. It would always have been difficult to get wayland into
main as a build dep of GTK, but it really won't be possible to have GTK+
depending on wayland.

Sorry. I suggest you keep on going with a PPA if folks want to use GTK+3
in Ubuntu with its wayland backend.

[Bug 1090770] [NEW] file browsing causes memory leaks

2012-12-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi!
I use Gnome desktop 3.4.2 on my PC.
I've been recently experiencing some memory leaks while browsing my computer
files. I noticed this bug first with Nautilus, then I tried using another file
manager (PCMan) and it happened again.
What I do when this bug occurs is going into one folder and then trying to go
back to an upper directory or another location (e.g. 'Pictures' folder,
'Music' folder; after that the system slows down, I notice my hard disk drive
is busy and sometimes get an error message for insufficient memory to generate
a report for the bug.
To avoid this problem I'm using KDE desktop, using Dolphin as file browser.

My computer runs Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit.

Thanks for your help.

UPDATE: It seems that the package nautilus is the source of the problem.
Through System Monitor I see the application uses more than 2 GB of RAM
and causes the Swap memory to rise uncontrollably. Also when I use PCMan
the error no longer occurs, I don't know why it happened before.

So yes, it should definitiely in 3.5 based kernels. It must be something
different. Could you start output that is broken (i e to both HDMI and
speakers), and while playing back, run the "pacmd list" and alsa-info
commands, and attach to this bug? Thanks.

Thanks for your assistance. To be honest, I'm a little surprised that it
happened. Did it disappear on both input and output tabs? If it's still

[Bug 882040] Re: should let users enable or disable suspend and hibernate

2012-12-17 Thread John Lea
@eaglescreen, @taaroa; +10 re. the hybrid suspend method  ;-)

Ideally when the user presses the power down button we should both
suspend and hibernate the computer at the same time. If the computer is
then resumed while battery power is remaining, it should be un-suspended
and the hibernate image discarded. If the battery goes below a set
point, the suspend state would be discarded, and when the computer is
next switched on it would then be un-hibernated.

Would anybody be interested in taking this on as a project? It is a lot
of work, but it would be great to see this in Ubuntu. To add this
feature somebody needs to step forward and take on this project. I
proposed this idea at UDS-O in Budapest, however there was nobody
available to take up this project, and that is still the case today.
Any volunteers? ;-)

[Bug 1091152] [NEW] File transfer not showing up on list of processes holding up media eject

2012-12-17 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Dear friends,

I've pressed 'eject' on a removable media while a file copy to it was
underway.

As you can see in the screenshot, the process which is holding up the
ejection is not listed, while it really should be.

Thanks,
Shahar

[Bug 1081691] Re: Launcher - Update the icons used for the Software Centre, Nautilus, and Software Updater

2012-12-17 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Moving to ubuntu-themes (the successor of ubuntu-mono & light-themes).

Also, how about moving the X-Unity-IconBackgroundColor thing into the
theme itself (i.e. we can ship a file like /usr/share/icons/Ubuntu-Mono
-*/unity-colors that Unity can use)?

** Package changed: ubuntu-mono (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-themes (Ubuntu)
