[Bug 1091496] [NEW] Primary Display intermittently switches from external to notebook display
Public bug reported: warning: Package might be x-windows, gnome, or nvidia driver Bug Behavior: When I step away from the computer or I KVM switch to another computer for several minutes, when I come back the internal display is now the primary. The symptom is that the gnome Applications, Places, Widgets and Notifications bar has shifted to the internal display. This did not happen with lucid 10.04. This did not happen initially with 12.04. Remediation: Leave the "NVIDIA x Server Settings" program running. When the problem occurs, switch to the program, click "Make this the primary display for the X Screen" then click APPLY. [Bug 41427] Re: "slow keys" can turn on surreptitiously & cause confusion.
For a solution that worked for me, you can look at the comment linked here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=816764#c42 Pasting here: Create a new file in /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/ with a number prefix (the highest one in the directory, e.g. 01-no-a11y-keyboard) with the following content: [org/gnome/desktop/a11y/keyboard] enable=false Then run 'dconf update': this should create new /etc/dconf/db/gdm settings database. Then restart gdm... @Dario, I completely agree with you. This feature should be added to nautilus in the same way OSX implements it, not the windows way. It would even be touch friendly. [Bug 1091377] [NEW] No obvious way to add network printer with gnome-control-center printers applet
Public bug reported: With a fresh install of 12.10 (after successfully using 12.04 on another partition of the same machine) I found I could not add my network printer (on a synology ds211j). I went to System Settings>Printers and while the correct printer had been identified, it was identified as a local printer. In trying to add another (click +), there was no option to add a network printer. The search panel was not any obvious use: what 'address' is needed? I tried the nas server name, to which the printer is attached, but nothing came up. (see attached screen-grab: the printer was attached and on...) In the end I had to use the system-config-printer applet and successfully added the network printer, which showed up in the control centre applet afterwards but the location is '--'. The system-config- printer applet was simple and straightforward to use, mainly because it identified the network printer immediately. If this is not technically a bug it presents a serious gap between what the control centre application might reasonably be expected to do and what it is able to do in a straight forward way. [Bug 954352] Re: Enable wayland backend
Oh, I'm sorry but this isn't going to be possible. Extra backends get compiled right into GDK. This means that libgtk-3-0 gets a dependency on wayland and libxkbcommon and there's no way to split it out. It would always have been difficult to get wayland into main as a build dep of GTK, but it really won't be possible to have GTK+ depending on wayland. Sorry. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi! I use Gnome desktop 3.4.2 on my PC. I've been recently experiencing some memory leaks while browsing my computer files. I noticed this bug first with Nautilus, then I tried using another file manager (PCMan) and it happened again. What I do when this bug occurs is going into one folder and then trying to go back to an upper directory or another location (e.g. 'Pictures' folder, 'Music' folder; after that the system slows down, I notice my hard disk drive is busy and sometimes get an error message for insufficient memory to generate a report for the bug. To avoid this problem I'm using KDE desktop, using Dolphin as file browser. My computer runs Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit. Thanks for your help. UPDATE: It seems that the package nautilus is the source of the problem. Through System Monitor I see the application uses more than 2 GB of RAM and causes the Swap memory to rise uncontrollably. [Bug 882040] Re: should let users enable or disable suspend and hibernate
@eaglescreen, @taaroa; +10 re. the hybrid suspend method ;-) Ideally when the user presses the power down button we should both suspend and hibernate the computer at the same time. If the computer is then resumed while battery power is remaining, it should be un-suspended and the hibernate image discarded. If the battery goes below a set point, the suspend state would be discarded, and when the computer is next switched on it would then be un-hibernated. Would anybody be interested in taking this on as a project? It is a lot of work, but it would be great to see this in Ubuntu. To add this feature somebody needs to step forward and take on this project. I proposed this idea at UDS-O in Budapest, however there was nobody available to take up this project, and that is still the case today.
