[Bug 1162694] [NEW] Failed removal of gnome - gdm error

2013-04-01 Thread Charles Ford
Public bug reported:

I had a working install of lubuntu 13.04, and thought I'd try installing
gnome to see how it ran on my computer.

I couldn't login at startup, so I went into terminal and logged in
there. Did sudo apt-get remove gnome, then autoclean. Then startx
brought me to gnome desktop (i thought I uninstalled), and this is the
second error that popped up.

[Bug 1106283] Re: [13.04]nautilus crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() when trying to open file/folder's property dialog as root where file/folder belongs to user with Unicode CJK name.

2013-04-01 Thread Mark Bennison
I had a similar problem too. I was trying to browse to another users
home folder to check disk usage. I launched a root nautilus through gksu
nautilus. When I right clicked on the folder (in this case 'pictures')
and selected properties I got the crash. Aport pointed me to this bug
rather than reporting a new one, so I'm adding a little bit more
information.

Firstly, the user in question is just a simple ASCII name ('betty')
rather than from the extended character set (but, of course, it may not
matter which part of the character set the characters come from). The
dialogue as reported in the original bug appeared, but I wasn't trying
to change the user and as I was running from a terminal it reported the
following:

ERROR:nautilus-properties-window.c:1836:schedule_owner_change_timeout:
assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_FILE (file))

[Bug 1162766] [NEW] The battery charging / discharging rates & capacity are off by factor 10

2013-04-01 Thread Thomas Nordquist
Public bug reported:

The battery state is totally of.
Power consumtion shows as 950mW (in powertop)
Battery capacity is 4.9Wh
=> both values seem to be off by factor 10
Charging rate is at 65.5 W

When I disconnect the charger I get a critical Battery notification
Might not be a problem of the gnome-power-manager itself since powetop shows
the same issue.

[Bug 1045171] Re: totem-plugin-viewer crashed with signal 5 in _XReply()

2013-04-01 Thread Paul Huygen
I have the same problem with totem. Therefore, I imitated the procedure
to generate a dump. Hope it helps:

paul@klipperaak:~$ GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1 gdb -q totem
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/totem...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
(gdb)
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/bin/totem
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1".
[New Thread 0x7fffe5d6b700 (LWP 24895)]
[New Thread 0x7fffdfdf4700 (LWP 24896)]

(totem:24892): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'totem' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 174 error_code 1 request_code 153 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Program received signal SIGTRAP, Trace/breakpoint trap.

[Bug 1162925] [NEW] Totem shows wrong frame when pausing

2013-04-01 Thread Kai Mast
Public bug reported:

REOPENED BUG #964555

Basically when I watch a video and use the seeker to move back and then
pause, Totem will "jump" back to the location I moved it to, resuming
the video will start from that wrong location again.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select a video and play it.
2. Pause the video.
3. Move the seeker backwards to some random location.
4. Resume the video.
5. Pause the video again.

Sometimes it will show you the location you have moved back to.

[Bug 1162928] [NEW] totem-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in oil_init()

2013-04-01 Thread Eliah Kagan
Public bug reported:

I was viewing a couple folders of video files in pcmanfm on a Lubuntu
11.10 i386 system. One folder was of .mkv files; the other was of .avi
files. Nothing seemed to go wrong--pcmanfm did not itself crash, and all
the files were properly thumbnailed. I was not using Totem itself to
open any of the files, but I was playing some with VLC.

Apport informed me that totem had crashed, and when I saw the crash was
in the binary totem-video-thumbnailer, I assumed it happened because of
some problem thumbnailing the videos in pcmanfm.

This crash resembles these other two bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/liboil/+bug/403110
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/980651

But I cannot yet tell if it is really the same as either. It's also a
little similar to these bugs:

[Bug 1163021] [NEW] Control centre Appearance panel crashes while rendering thumbnails

2013-04-01 Thread Chris Morgan
Public bug reported:

When I open the Appearance panel in the GNOME Control Centre, it begins
loading thumbnails for candidate background images, but after a few
screenfuls (several seconds) it crashes.

This used to be a problem (probably somewhere about 10.X and 11.X, but I
can't quite remember) but then somewhere along the way I *think* it
stopped happening. But I don't try to change the background image at all
frequently... well, now I've tried and it's either still happening or
happening once again.

The backtrace I see when running gnome-control-center from the command
line suggests it's crashing in font rendering while producing a
thumbnail of an SVG file. I'm quite willing to assist further if
desired.

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2013-04-01 Thread Gatlin Johnson
I would love to jump in and tackle this: I'm a developer, I want to
switch to Empathy.

I know lots of developers work on things they care about in their free
time; I can't afford to do that right now. Without turning this into a
classified ad, I'll simply suggest that anyone interested in helping me
with this (or talking to me more! I like meeting people anyway) email me
via my profile.

Mods: if this is an inappropriate comment, I sincerely apologize and
will never do it again. I can make this happen if a lot of people help
me, and it seems there are a lot of people who care and use this forum
to stay up to date.

[Bug 1163043] [NEW] Directory Desktop stays in English in the Live CD's

2013-04-01 Thread Mélodie
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After testing Lubuntu Precise, Xubuntu Precise, I have been able to test
also Ubuntu Raring as of todays daily built and Xubuntu Raring of
today's daily built, and found the same in each of these versions.

What happens :

I boot to Live, choose my language, then once on the desktop, I seek for
the default directories in the home of the user : and in this *Live*
environment all the directories are in my language except "Desktop"
which is still having for name "Desktop".

What is expected:
I would be expecting the directory "Desktop" to be in my locale in the Live
CD's/ Live USB/ Live vitual machines...

What happens after install : in all the versions tested, all
directories, *including* the directory "Desktop" are renamed the right
way.

I wish that the Desktop directory be also in the relevant locale in the
Live versions, if it is possible to fix it.

Here are a few screenshots to demonstrate the tests I have done:
Live:

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2013-04-01 Thread Pablo Castellano
My idea comes one day late as the deadline was yesterday :(

OpenITP is looking for projects to fund. Eligible projects must work on
improving users' ability to circumvent censorship and surveillance on
the Internet. So OTR support for Empathy fits perfectly!

http://openitp.org/?q=openitp_first_round_of_2013_project_funding_now_open_for_proposals

What do you think? Should we keep one eye on this kind of fundings and get
someone paid to do it?
I have no idea about who would be willing to do it but I'm sure you guys can
find one person in the community.

You could also consider a Kickstarter campaign. Don't expect a fortune
but maybe enough to compensate your efforts.

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2013-04-01 Thread Dabo Ross
I get these a lot with ubuntu 12.10, though they aren't really a problem as I
have a script run with crontab to delete them on boot
`@reboot rm ~/.goutputstream-*`
in `crontab -e`.
It has something to do with file management, I think.
just speculating, but because everyone who has these have them with some
process that edits files, like Ubuntu one/dropbox, or when booting up/shutting
down. What if the process that creates goutputstream for changing files hasn't
fully loaded or is shut down in the middle of an operation? (just speculating).

[Bug 1163062] [NEW] Calculator does not show up while searching for it in the activities overlay

2013-04-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I am using Gnome Shell 3.7.92 and have gnome3 ppa and gome3-staging ppa
enabled. I have observed that searching for calculator in the
application overlay window does not show up the application, although
the application is installed.

I have noticed this problem without the staging ppa added.

[Bug 1163107] [NEW] Wacom calibration results are off (wrong area)

2013-04-01 Thread Tomas
Public bug reported:

When I try to calibrate the touchscreen on my laptop (HP EliteBook
2760p, Wacom Serial Tablet WACf004) the result gets worse and worse
with every calibration. The area on which the touchscreen is effective
becomes smaller every time to the point where it is completely unusable.

This can be verified with "xsetwacom --get 15 area", right now this gives me
"-9978 -6651 6336 -4878".
I can reset this by manually setting a new area, e.g. "xsetwacom --set 15 area
0 0 25000 16000"
However, xsetwacom only works for the current session, after a reboot all
information is lost and the calibration is off again.

What should happen: the area for the touchscreen is improved with calibrating
What happens instead: the area gets smaller for every calibration

I'd be happy to contribute a bit in fixing this bug, but my knowledge is
limited.

Meanwhile, I'd appreciate a workaround: how can I reset the area used
for the touchscreen to the default?

[Bug 1163107] Re: Wacom calibration results are off (wrong area)

2013-04-01 Thread Tomas
Note that "xinput_calibrator" is a bit more verbose and warns me:

Warning: multiple calibratable devices found, calibrating last one (Serial
Wacom Tablet touch)
use --device to select another one.
Calibrating standard Xorg driver "Serial Wacom Tablet touch"
current calibration values: min_x=0, max_x=2640 and min_y=0, max_y=1630

With the default settings, it gives me a very wrong result resulting in
a similar area as reported.

By using "xinput_calibrator --device 15" I get proper values: "-1232
-523 26217 16525".

My best guess is that the Wacom calibration through the control centre
is using the wrong input device.

[Bug 907953] Re: "[name] would like permission to see when you're online" message offers no action to take

2013-04-01 Thread Lesser
In my 12.10, if I go to the bottom right "hot corner", I see a question
mark. Clicking there shows all requests with the option to "accept" or
"deny" the contact. Actually, I am looking for a way to disable these
messages that I keep getting from webcam girls...
