[Bug 778054] Re: Trouble when removing transitional packages

2013-05-21 Thread Scott Ritchie
wine1.4-common went away properly in raring. It's a transitional
package in precise but not for the traditional reason (a package
rename), but rather as a workaround to ensure the multiarch dependencies
work out correctly when upgrading from 10.04. While it contained no
files, it did have a purpose in making the dependency chain resolve
correctly.

Quantal has it too, but only because I forgot to remove it.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-21 Thread rod singleton
I just realised this bug with gvfs, as randolf just pointed out, could
very well be directly related to the problem I have been experiencing
since 12.10 with LibreOffice hanging randomly sometimes opening and
somtimes saving files opened from a samba share mounted with Nautilus
sometimes causing data loss. Sometimes I have had to reboot to recover
from a hung Libreoffice session when saving to a samba share and retype
entries into my spreadsheed on local disk and then copy it up to the
samba share.

As a work around for now I am using Smb4K to get my Windows shares
mapped so I shall test my theory out. If this is right, and from the
sounds of it this bug affects several packages related to music and
office (not just nautilus), you are quite right Romano to get this risen
to critical status.

I sincerely respect everyone's effort in testing and hopefully fixing
this bug.

[Bug 406373] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in rb_encoder_encode()

2013-05-21 Thread markling
I got something like this problem.

It gives me a kernel error. The problem occurs when I try to use
Rythmbox to copy tracks to my ipod.

i686 xubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 the same.

I filed as crash report.

It has been like this for many months. I had been waiting for upgrade in
the hope that this would correct the problem. It has not.

I have meanwhile been copying tracks for my ipod onto a usb and then
doing the transfer using Rhythmbox on another machine running Xubuntu
12.04 i386. The later Xubuntu version did not install on this machine
because the kernel dropped support for non-PAE CPUs. This may suggest a
kernal problem.

The following line appeared in kern.log when Rhythmbox crashed:

May 21 19:46:03 Bonzo kernel: [36390.947600] rhythmbox[5566]: segfault
at 30 ip 7f5a9122ecd0 sp 7fff127575e8 error 4 in
libgstpbutils-1.0.so.0.6.0[7f5a9121f000+22000]

This may be a different error to the one being dealt with here. Please
advise if so and I will file it as a separate report, if necessary.
Perhaps you will be kind enough to deal with accordingly?

[Bug 958353] Re: Unity launcher and panel are still visible on the lock screen

2013-05-21 Thread MockY
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 886605 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/886605

Running Ubuntu 12.04.2 and this behaviour just started after latest
kernel update. Per suggestion from Eduards, putting Chromium in full
screen mode (F11), followed by locking the desktop and unlocking it,
solved any future desktop locks regardless of what software you have
active.

Very odd indeed, but it works!

[Bug 271755] Re: variable rate mp3 have wrong length

2013-05-21 Thread beta
This bug is still present in version 2.98 under ubuntu raring 13.04.
Seeing the importance set to LOW, while 5 years passed from the first
report, is outraging.

Most of my files are vbr encoded mp3, and I cant check song duration,
cant jump to a position in song, or see where the current playing
position is, because rhythmbox shows incorrect duration for mp3 songs
encoded in variable bitrate. This is unacceptable for a media player,
and should have been resolved years ago.

I hope you recognise what a major bug this is. I really like your
player, but unfortunately this bug makes it neccessary to have another
player, so I can jump into vbr encoded songs too.

Other than that keep up the good work, your player is still one of the
best.

[Bug 1181565] [NEW] wrong permissions on $HOME/.local/ on live session

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On a live session of Saucy Desktop AMD64 (Build 20130517) mode of
/home/ubuntu/.local/ is set to 0644 instead of 0755 which causes several
services failing to start (for example zeitgeist or mission-control)

After installation to the target system, the mode of this directory is
correct.

The other day, Google notified me that my password needed to be reset. I
did so. Empathy couldn't connect, so I was going to change the
password. I started having the same problem you are reporting on two
different machines both running 13.04.

>From the command line, I was able to launch empathy-accounts once and
delete what I believed to be the offending account, but it still isn't
working. Now I can't launch it from the command line either.

The only remaining account is one that has the 2-factor authentication
turned on. Maybe that's where it's falling down? It used to work,
but...

[Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2013-05-21 Thread James M. Leddy
Hi Martin,

I don't think we should close it just yet. The key still maps to micmute
(as you mention), and upstream udev and X and gnome-settings-daemon all
agree on f20. I can prepare a bzr branch if it makes things easier.
Alternately we could just wait for udev v199 or greater to land in the
distro, but I don't consider it closed.

[Bug 1100386] Re: Server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations

2013-05-21 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Although this is fundamentally a kernel issue, the current kernel
infrastructure would really only be able to abort anyone use the 'being
replaced' framebuffer when we switch from efifb to a DRM framebuffer.
This change will likely be extensive and slow to get through upstream.
Also plymouth will have to be modified to handle being aborted and
reconnect to the replacement transparently. In the short term we can
avoid this issue the same way we avoided it for vesafb by demoting the
driver to a secondary display. This means we only use efifb at all if
no DRM driver appears. Neatly avoiding the issue.

As we have now (early saucy) moved udev over to systemd sources I have
proposed this against both udev and systemd. udev for raring and
systemd for saucy. I will attach patches once they are tested.

[Bug 1182461] [NEW] Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.#012

2013-05-21 Thread Bruce Pieterse
Public bug reported:

This might be related to bug #1053550. However this problem is now
occuring after a few minutes within a gnome session. I am currently
using the xorg-edgers ppa and now this error occurs.

Prior to loading the xorg-edgers ppa, my desktop sessions would freeze
and would have to resort to restarting lightdm to get a desktop session
back. The error that occurred prior to me testing with the xorg-edgers
ppa was:

May 20 10:31:37 tank kernel: [ 9246.195078] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR*

May 20 10:31:37 tank kernel: [ 9246.195086] [drm] capturing error event; look
for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state

[Bug 1182407] [NEW] non-standard date format

2013-05-21 Thread Gary Dean
Public bug reported:

date formats in empathy conversation screen use oddball US date format:

eg:

   gary@okusi0 05/21/2013 04:09:01 PM
   blah blah blah

Erni Herlina Munir 05/21/2013 04:09:02 PM
blah blah blah blah blah blah

   gary@okusi0 05/21/2013 04:10:29 PM
   blah blah

all date formats should follow default system format or ISO.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-21 Thread Romano Giannetti
@Sebastien Bacher: please, could you drive developers attention on this
bug? I feel that it should be assigned and risen to "Critical" status;
it's a core regression which will probably bite a lot of unaware and
non-technical user.

We have a report of data loss too...; and I would not be surprised if
this could be changed in a DOS someway (processes stuck in "D" state are
really dangerous).

I am saying this because (respectfully) I have the sensation that this
bug is being severely underestimated.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-21 Thread randolf
Same problems here:
xubuntu 13.04 64bit
Thunar hangs randomly while copying files to/from smb-share
Thunar hangs randomly when changing subfolder in smb-share

Since 13.04 : if one Thunar instance hangs all other thunar instances hang too
Cant open a new thunar.
Some times thunar becomes usable after a lot of minutes, then the whole
xfce-session
crashes and I'm ot the loginscreen.

Open Libre office hangs when opening files on smb-share

It is very difficult to work with such a bug.

Hope you will fix this soon.

[Bug 1181400] Re: Screen locking issue

2013-05-21 Thread Adela Suhani
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a
more complete description of the problem.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1167869] [NEW] Wrong keymap for hibernate key on Dell Latitude D830

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

. Puts the computer into hibernate mode. Dell QuickSet is
required (see "DellTM QuickSet" on page 129). --- Info from Notebook technical
documentation.

XEV output:

KeyRelease event, serial 40, synthetic NO, window 0x3e1,
root 0x103, subw 0x0, time 5090384, (164,-14), root:(166,44),
state 0x0, keycode 213 (keysym 0x1008ffa7, XF86Suspend), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

So, as we see, this combination generates XF86Suspend code, and it is
not working for some reason (nothing`s happened when to press it). It
must generate XF86Hibernate to work.

[Bug 1169386] [NEW] Backlit Keyboard does not work on Toshiba satellite A660

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Toshiba satellite A660 backlight just never worked on ubuntu.

Here is an outline of some of the LEDS in a toshiba

http://i.imgur.com/l54s5CP.jpg

When i press Fn+Z the ubuntu keyboard LED notification shows up, however
nothing changes.

so i navigated to

/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1c.4/:16:00.0/firmware_node/subsystem/devices/TOS1900:00/leds/toshiba::illumination/device/leds/toshiba::illumination

found files

brightness device max_brightness power subsystem trigger uevent

when i changed the value in brightness from 0 to 1

LED 1, 2, and 3 in the above picture turns on, and led 1 turns off when
touch bad is off.

However there is no keyboard backlight.upon boot the backboard backlight
works while posting and shutdown when grub loads. When i disable acpi
the keyboard backlight works however ill lose other functionalities like
brightness.

Any way to fix it?

There is also another directory.

/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1c.4/:16:00.0/firmware_node/subsystem/devices/TOS1900:00/leds/toshiba::illumination/device/leds/toshiba::illumination/subsystem/mmc0::

with files brightness device max_brightness power subsystem trigger uevent
nothing happens when brightness value changes.

#Problem also exists in older version of ubuntu, new kernel in 13.04
does not solve the problems.

xev shows a key being pressed and being mapped to kbdbacklight. A a
notification that keyboard is being turned on appears when Fn+Z is
pressed. Also unlike other manufactures toshiba doesn't have brightness
on backlit keyboards, its either on or off or a timer.

[Bug 1157334] [NEW] Volume control keys lock keyboard (Advent 8117)

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I adjust the volume on my laptop using the keys (Fn+F5/F6) the
keys repeat (making the volume go all the way up/down) and then try to
continue increasing/decreasing.

Not only can I not adjust the volume properly (set to a medium vol) I
can no longer use any text input field (the keyboard no longer works),
and the system icons (top right, volume etc.) no longer respond to mouse
clicks.

First noticed on 13.04, but same problem found with 12.10 (usb boot).
Is there some driver I need to install to fix this? (Advent laptop 8117, intel
dual core T2080 1.73GHz)
BIOS doesn't apear to be updateable

[Bug 1142651] [NEW] Brightness does not change on TOSHIBA L870-18J with AMD RADEON HD 7670M

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The problem is that brightness is at full and I cannot change it. The Fn+F2,
Fn+F3 keys do not do anything.
I have tried adding boot parameters like nomodeset, acpi_hardware=vendor etc.
But nothing has worked for me.
I even tried the /sys/class/backlight way but there is a problem. This
directory is empty.
I am using ubuntu 12.04.2 64bit and I have tried both open source and amd
proprietary (13.1) drivers (even the 13.2 beta).
I even tried the latest mainline kernels up to 3.8.1 which also did not solve
my problem.

[Bug 752949] [NEW] Acer Aspire One AA1 netbook volume controll does not work in Ubuntu, but does work in Windows

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: udev

Volume control works in windows, but not in Ubuntu 10.10. The control
is Fn [up arrow or down arrow]. This used to work just fine, but after
upgrade to 10.10 it no longer works. Nothing happens when I use this
key sequence and the volume is fixed at one level. Not sure what
package to associate with this. Perhaps ALSA. I uninstalled pulseaudio
bc of the following log error.

[Bug 1012365] [NEW] Samsung Series 9 laptop 900X3C not all keys correctly translated

2013-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There isn't a correct translation from scancodes to keycodes in place
for the 900X3C laptop, for more information see
"http://jablonskis.org/2012/linux-and-samsung-series-laptop-9-fn-keys/";,
however the codes on that page are not correct for 900X3C.

/lib/udev/keymap -i input/event3 gives the following information

(Fn+F1..F12)

scan code: 0xCE key code: kpplusminus
scan code: 0x89 key code: brightnessdown
scan code: 0x88 key code: brightnessup
scan code: 0x82 key code: switchvideomode
scan code: 0xF7 key code: f22
scan code: 0xA0 key code: mute
scan code: 0xAE key code: volumedown
scan code: 0xB0 key code: volumeup
got scan code event 0x97 without a key code event
got scan code event 0x96 without a key code event
scan code: 0xB3 key code: prog3
got scan code event 0xD5 without a key code event

The correct functionality would be:
Fn+F1: "Easy Settings"
Fn+F2: Brightness Down (OK)
Fn+F2: Brightness Up (OK)
Fn+F3: Switch Internal/External monitor
Fn+F4: Touchpad On/off
Fn+F6: Mute (OK)
Fn+F7: Vol Down (OK)
Fn+F8: Vol Up (OK)
Fn+F9: Keyboard backlight down
Fn+F10: Keyboard backlight up
Fn+F11: Silent Mode (toggle performance levels for reduced noise)
Fn+F12: Wireless on/off

[Bug 1067876] Re: Missing "Safely Remove Drive" option from Quicklists. Only have "Eject".

2013-05-21 Thread Muhammad Iqtedar Iqbal
What's the matter with the developers of Nautilus? Under Ubuntu 13.04, I
can no longer see all attached drives. Instead, 'Computer' now displays
the root directory of the main drive, which is wrong. My mobile
broadband dongle doesn't show up at all anymore and it seems to have
been affected after constantly removing it without being able to eject
it. I now have to use Disk Utility to eject it properly. If Disk Utility
can see all attached devices and provide the ability to eject them, then
why can't Nautilus anymore? Besides this big problem, the arrangement on
the toolbar is so inconsistent and there is no status bar anymore to
show the total number of items. Please restore essential functionality
and provide a decent interface.
