[Bug 1253493] Re: package libgucharmap-2-90-7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2013-11-20 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-11-20 Thread Majed Aly
I tried the workaround offered by Grief, using xneur on bilingual Ubuntu 13.10
using Arabic as an alternative layout. Xneur is so buggy with Arabic, where it
does not practically work. Had to uninstall it.
Still the problem persists with system shortcuts, and libreoffice.
Using Allow different sources for each window, and setting New windows use the
default source in text entry settings, makes it less painful, and isolating the
problem within libreoffice only, as the system would default to English for
system shortcuts.

[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2013-11-20 Thread EliCoten
I'm using 13.10. It seems to be somewhat related to this:
http://askubuntu.com/q/235805/38137

If you click on the Hard Drive launcher icon, a folder window appears
but the indicators show that it is a file window. If you then minimize
this window, it appears to go to the "Files" launcher, but actually the
correct way to restore it is to click on the Hard Drive launcher icon
again.

This is ok (ok, perhaps a little confusing for the user - the indicator
should really point to the Hard Drive launcher not the Files launcher
when such a window is open) provided that the hard drive icon remains
docked to the launcher. The real problem comes when you undock the Hard
Drive/Partition's icon from the launcher - then you have the same
behaviour with no reasonable alternative.

I hope this explanation makes sense.

[Bug 1253032] Re: Bluetooth file transfer fails everytime.Shows an error message like: " GDBus.Error:org.openobex.Error.Failed:Unable to request session "

2013-11-20 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

evince is a PDF viewer, so I'm removing it from this report. What tool
were you using to do bluetooth? Are you confident your device supports

[Bug 1253187] [NEW] Unable to unmount Nexus 4: The connection is closed

2013-11-20 Thread Andreas Jonsson
Public bug reported:

When I click the "eject" triangle next to my Nexus 4 in Nautilus this
error message appears (see title/screenshot). I am uncertain whether the
phone actually unmounts or not so that it is safe to disconnect it.

After the error message appears I can still access the phone content at
/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp..., which suggests that the phone is still
mounted.

"sudo umount /run/user/1000/gvfs" properly unmounts the phone.

Expected behaviour: To receive a confirmation message from Nautilus
saying it is now safe to disconnect the phone.

[Bug 1253166] [NEW] Main window does not resize when running under vmware/virtual box

2013-11-20 Thread Richard Huber
Public bug reported:

When running Ubuntu 13.10 under VM with the following prerequisites:
 * GNOME as session manager
 * Either virtual box or vmware player

When resizing VM window (the host, either Windows or Ubuntu) GNOME
doesn't update the window correct.

This worked excellent in previous version of Ubuntu and it's repeatable.
Just try to install a blank ubuntu 13.10 under virtual box or vmware player (I
prefer vmware player).
Install gnome.
Log on using gnome.
Resize the VM window.

Above should answer this: so I can't repro it intentionally and last
time(s) it occurred I didn't happen to test this. My post was confusing;
it was supposed to mean that if what I'm getting is the same bug at all.
Bugs 492598 and 1040591 sound more like it.

I also saw a similar sounding bug related to CIF filesystems
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/995847), but
mine are just ext4.

[Bug 1087206] Re: Evince often hangs on close

2013-11-20 Thread shoonya
HI,
I have severely been affected by evince due to its hanging and then freezing
behaviour while opening multiple pdf files. If I am in a presentnio mode of
pdfs, then the freezing of files is really problemetic. Also there is no
shortcut for force kill. Although I have made a lounching icon of force quit,
which is availabe in Ubuntu, on the top panel. But this also not working now a
days.
A simple solution I came up with is as below:
(1) create a file kill.sh
(2) write "xkill" inside it.
(3) make the file executable in terminal as : $ chmod +x xkill.sh
(4) put this file in the directory say e.g.: /home/dinesh/xkill.sh
(5) now right click on the desktop > change settings > All settings > Hardware>
keyboard > shortcuts > custum shortcuts
(6) click on the '+' sign. An small window will pop up in which two items have
to be filled i.e. 'Name' and 'Command'. In 'Name' write any thing say "kill"
and in "command" give the path of that file i.e. "/home/dinesh/xkill.sh" and
then push button "Apply".
(7) The "kill" line will appear in custom shortcuts. Now right click at the
2nd entry of the highlighted option (i.e."kill" one) of the menu. Now use some
shortcut e.g. shift+F12. It will be registerd there.

done.

Now open any pdf in presentation mode/ or normal mode (or any other
application). Use shortcut which has been assigned above (in our case,
as above, is shift+F12). Doing this the mouse cursur will appear as "+"
symbol. Whichever application it will be put and left clicked, the
applicaiton will be forcly quit. A right click will represent "escape
the quiting operation." i.e. do not quit.

best
Dinesh

[Bug 1253096] [NEW] Cannot add IRC account with NickServ password

2013-11-20 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Public bug reported:

In accounts settings:

1. Add new IRC account (I tested Freenode), input nick and hit done.

2. Things seem ok, it connects in Empathy (even though the Empathy
connection button in accounts dialog isn't enabled yet, which is surprising.)

3. I have a registered nick at Freenode, so I need to provide password
for NickServ at login. Hit "edit options" in accounts dialog and input
   a password, then hit done.

4. Now the access trouble starts (and Empathy disconnects).

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-20 Thread Norbert
@Krisztian Poos (rocky-poos)
For me it works with saucy-proposed updates.
So I have removed all packages from William's ppa's:

$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/1218322
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

and enabled proposed updates in software-properties-gtk (on Updates tab).
I tried Alt+Shift in sessions: Unity, GNOME FlashBack (with and without
effects) and in GNOME Shell.

In modern GNOME (3.8, 3.10) they added special option "Modifiers-only switch to
next source". It contain Alt+Shift and others.
I tried gnome-control-center 3.8.5-0ubuntu1~saucy1 from ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
and 3.10.1-0ubuntu1~saucy2 from ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging - they allow
me to set Alt+Shift in "Switch to next/previous input source" (thanks to
William Hua patches) and "Modifiers-only switch to next source" (new GNOME
option).

[Bug 1155575] Re: Rhythmbox not reading 'year' tag

2013-11-20 Thread Danillo
I confirm it working on Rhythmbox 3.0 on Ubuntu 13.10. I guess for now
we can install the newer version from the fossfreedom PPA:
http://xpressubuntu.wordpress.com/2013/10/06/how-to-install-
rhythmbox-3-0-in-saucy/

Plugins for the newer version can be installed from another PPA:
http://xpressubuntu.wordpress.com/2013/10/26/installing-rhythmbox-3-0
-plugins-the-easy-way/

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-20 Thread Krisztian Poos
Unfortunately neither the old ppa, ppa:attente/1218322 nor the new , the
modifier-only-input-switch fixes the issue on my laptop.
I tried to use also gsettings, I can finally map the keybindigs to ctrl-shift
with the gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
"['Shift_L']", however I still can use the Alt+Shift_L combo to change
the keyboard.
It changes the keyboard notifier in the panel, however I still type english
keys instead of hungarian.

I run ubuntu 13.10 on a Thinkpad T500, I use gnome shell.
I also tried to upgrade my gnome to 3.10, however the problem remained after
the upgrade as well, so I reverted these changes and went back to the 3.8.

Do you have any idea what else should I try to get back for the long-
ago-used Alt+Shift shortcut?

I am happily providing any needed information for investigation as
well.

Thanks and regards,
Krisztian

[Bug 1251743] Re: Nautilus doesn't refresh window afrer creation a folder

2013-11-20 Thread Pavel Sandovin
It happened in normal user session, but there autologin was enabled.

It happened in such scenario:

1. Open any folder in Nautilus in the pane view. For example, ~/Documents
2. Create new folder. System creates folder with default name.
3. Change this default name to anything else (valid Linux name), for example
"qq".
4. Nautilus doesn't show the folder "qq" in the pane view.

Problem doesn't occur in Ubuntu 13.10.

hum, shame that you deleted it before testing the ppa package to see if
it fixed the issue :/

I guess you don't know how to add it back to test if the fix is working?

[Bug 1252909] Re: Nautilus takes no notice of my selection in File --> Properties

2013-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. You can right click on the file to open
the properties as well, no need to use the command line. Could you try
with a newer version to see if that's still an issue? I can't confirm on
Ubuntu 13.10, it ignores the selection and give the properties of the
current folter in that version though

can't you just try (right click in the folder, create new folder, give

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

Sorry if I'm wrong, but wouldn't we simply be able to check every second
or so whether the settings daemon from the login manager has exited, and
only when that one has exited, start the settings daemon for the user?
