[Bug 30378] Re: Joystick activity does not stop the screensaver

2014-02-19 Thread Stephan Sokolow
@10: It shouldn't. Expecting every game, past present and future
(including closed-source ones where the developers bundled a copy of
everything except libc and libGL to avoid having to maintain them) to
special-case joysticks on Linux is insanity.

This disagreement over approach reminds me of a Buddhist quote.

“Where would I find enough leather
To cover the entire surface of the earth?
But with leather soles beneath my feet,
It’s as if the whole world has been covered.”

Even if that weren't the case, ignoring the joystick is architecturally
wrong. The X server is supposed to reset the screensaver counter on
INPUT. Joysticks are input. (And they're not typically used for the
special "Let's control the music player without waking the monitors"
case which justifies LIRC also being an exception.)

Anyway, since the xf86-input-joystick driver can watch the joystick
without blocking other applications, I've just e-mailed the upstream
developer/maintainer to ask whether it's possible to use it to map
joystick input to the X11 input queue in a way which would have no
effect beyond being visible to the screensaver subsystem.

[Bug 221112]

2014-02-19 Thread Remi
For some reason, I found myself using the 'fr oss' layout in Gnome 3.10.
And I must say that finding out that this layout was picked as the
default left me speechless: two keys on my keyboard no longer behave
according to what's *on* the actual key:

 - the right control key, which just says "Ctrl", just like its left
counterpart,
 - and the keypad's del/dot key which has an actual dot on it, not a comma

Both of those changes are incomprehensible. Whether *alternative*
layouts exist to provide new mappings is of no issue to me. But a layout
touted as the default layout should respect what's *engraved* on
keyboards.

FTR, the original 'fr' layout also has that keypad dot/comma issue but
not the right control mapped to Level5, but at least there's an
"kpdl:dot" option to fix the former. So I fumbled through Gnome's ever-
changing control panel and managed to change back to it.

(In reply to comment #46)
> For me it does. My keyboard has an "Alt Gr" label on the AltR key, so it

+1, all the French PC keyboards I have owned for the past 15 years have
been like this. I can only add my voice to let it be known that having
to fix my keyboard layout for correct operation was quite upsetting.

Anyhow, thanks to all for looking into it.

Basically the problem is that the linearization dict length and the file

works, but i am scared it may break some other files.

OTOH the pdf spect says it may happen that linearization dict length and

Hib, what's your opinion shall we relax that check in

Or maybe turn it into at least an isOk that checks all the mandated

[Bug 1207812] Re: iOS 7, Trust Prompt Looping

2014-02-19 Thread jpvrlaone
I followed the installation package procedure but the original problem
remained for the most part. The lockdown directory was created and had its
permission changed also. Only after I created the mount point (MyName123)
as listed in the following error message did I make progress:
   Unable to mount MyName123
   Unhandled Lockdown error (-20)

I created a directory named MyName123 and used ifuse to mount it as an iphone

After this the photos were recognized and imported. Nonetheless, this is only
a fix at best.

[Bug 1282299] [NEW] Rhythmbox not added to indicator-sound menu

2014-02-19 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. If rhythmbox is already on your sound menu, use dconf-editor to reset
/com/canonical/indicator/sound.
2. Run rhythmbox.

Expected result: Rhythmbox is shown in the sound menu when left clicking
the sound icon.

Actual result: Rhythmbox is not shown.

Workaround: Manually add rhythmbox to the list of interested players
with dconf-editor.

All other audio players are working correctly and showing up in the
sound menu. This bug is also reproducable in a Unity session.

Seems to work in both sessions - with metacity and compiz.

Only network indicator /applet again is missing. There was patch -
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/trusty/network-
manager-
applet/trusty/view/head:/debian/patches/git_dont_autostart_under_GNOME.patch,
bet it is not enabled.

2014-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1282022] Re: Can't sync ios with linux

2014-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1282203] [NEW] gnome-terminal not respecting "Enable menu access keys" setting

2014-02-19 Thread Andreas Olsson
Public bug reported:

Under Edit --> Keyboard Shortcuts.. there is a checkbox for "Enable menu
access keys (such as Alt+F to open the File menu)".

That checkbox appear to have no affect what so ever. No matter whatever
I have it checked or not I still get the same behavior, that menu access
keys are enabled.

This being a problem since I'd much rather not have the menu get in the
way of my readline/emacs bindings.

[Bug 1256961] Re: new glib (2.39.1) causes some indicators & nautilus to not load promptly

2014-02-19 Thread Doug McMahon
It's basically supposed to give cursor indication (spin) while app is loading
& has been there forever.
(possibly that line was almost always added to many .desktops as a matter of
course, needed or not..

Seemed to have created issues in the past, ie. Bug 930768 (though
nautilus.desktop still has the line & this may not still be an issue

[Bug 1207812] Re: iOS 7, Trust Prompt Looping

2014-02-19 Thread Rene Tapia
I now can see the folders in my iPad (Books, DCIM, Downloads, etc),
without any trust prompt loop.

However, I can not see "Documents on MyiPad" (where you can see the
icons for the apps on the iPad, and where each icon represents the
storage for the app).

Could this be related to the bug in libimobiledevice?

Or do I need to install any other packages in order to see "Documents on
MyiPad"?

Thank you.

Maybe I found better fix. :) Removing "StartupNotify=true" line from
gnome-panel.desktop file fix this bug.

Maybe someone knows why this line was added to gnome-panel.desktop file
and why it is needed? Tried to look to other desktop files that uses
autostart phases - gnome-shell, mutter, metacity. Did not found such
line in any of them.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1282151] [NEW] evince won't open PDF files other readers can handle

2014-02-19 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

I've found that the version of evince in 14.04 has perhaps become too
strict and won't open PDF files that work in other readers. For example
with the SPC-4 SCSI spec available from http://www.t10.org/cgi-
bin/ac.pl?t=f&f=spc4r36q.pdf , I get:

$ evince spc4r36q.pdf
Syntax Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Syntax Error: Couldn't read xref table
Syntax Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Syntax Error: Couldn't read xref table

and the evince window has a red bar saying "PDF document is damaged"

However, the built-in firefox PDF renderer works fine with that file, as
does mupdf.

[Bug 1282093] Re: Files & Applications in Security & Privacy Settings Hangs

2014-02-19 Thread Phill
Killed the process after a runtime of 23 minutes, disc activity stopped
immediately. Re-launched and re-cleared the history, everything was
responding normally, except about 15-30 seconds later the window froze
again with heavy disc activity. Killed it and tried again and the hang
appears to occur several seconds after choosing to clear history - I
clicked on a tick box every second or so until it stopped responding.

[Bug 1282093] [NEW] Files & Applications in Security & Privacy Settings Hangs

2014-02-19 Thread Phill
Public bug reported:

In Files & Applications, after clicking "Clear Usage Data..." and
choosing to clear all data, control returned to the main window but it
became unresponsive with heavy disc activity, which is still going
several minutes later. I was able to click the "+" button on the Exclude
list which may have aggrevated the situation, after showing an
unresponsive pop-up menu (folder/application selection) it eventually
displayed a blank window showing "Select Application", which remained
blank and eventually closed. Several minutes (at least 5) later, still
with disc thrashing, the window remains unresponsive and occasionally
turns grey. I'll comment if it eventually becomes responsive again or if
I decide to kill it.

2014-02-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1276715] Re: Motorola G Android Phone does not connect

2014-02-19 Thread John Rose
I have put a request for a stable release update to the Ubuntu bug
control team.

[Impact]

 * This phone does not cause Nautilus to open a new tab for its SD card
(nor any other action in Nautilus) for Ubuntu 12.04. Bug 903422 (for
Samsung phones) advises opening a new bug for any other phone. Please
note that the Moto G is a very popular phone.

 * PS I've tried using Philip Langdale's ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~langdalepl/+archive/gvfs-mtp) but that makes no
difference. When I contacted him, he stated that the functionality is
now in Ubuntu 13.10 & that he would not be changing his ppa.

[Test Case]

 * Connect a Moto G phone by USB cable. In the phone's
Settings->Storage, click the 3 vertical dots at the top left of the
phone's screen, click 'USB computer connection' & ensure that 'Media
Device (MTP)' is ticked. If things were working correctly, Nautilus
would open a tab/window showing the contents of the /sdcard directory.

[Regression Potential]

 * None known.

and provides guidance to testers in regression-testing the SRU.

[Other Info]

 * Anything else you think is useful to include
 * Anticipate questions from users, SRU, +1 maintenance, security teams and the
Technical Board
 * and address these questions in advance

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2014-02-19 Thread Antonio Ferraro
I have my own RCP application, built with Eclipse Helios, for multiple
platforms. The problem happens for me when I test the application build
for Linux x86-gtk. Platform: Kubuntu 13.10 (virtualbox machine), JRE:
1.6u45. I get the crash while I use the preference pages and hit the OK
button. No .log is found in workspace/.metadata, just the
hs_err_pid.log in the app install directory.

The Solaris sparc/intel and win32/64 builds of the app work fine in
Solaris, and so does the linuxx86_64 when tested on CentOS 6.3.

The GTK workaround (System Settings/Application Appearance/GTK/Gtk2
theme Raleigh) works for my application, after a reboot of the VM. But I
do not like this as the look and feel is somewhat old fashioned and not
in line with the rest of the system.

However, and this is my contribution to this discussion, when I run the
application from the command line as root, with sudo , the
problem disappears (has anybody tried?). I then thought that it may have
been caused by some missing file access permissions and temporarily
gave full access to the whole workspace directory but the problem
reappeared, so it is not connected to permissions on the workspace. Also
for me the hs_errxxx.pid point to libgobject-2.0.s0.0+0x16bfe

[Bug 1276715] Re: Motorola G Android Phone does not connect

2014-02-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the "fix released" means it's fixed in current serie, if the bug needs
to be fixed in precise a precise line can be added to the bug table,
there is no isolated change easy to backport for that one and the bug is
not a security issue so it's likely to just not get an update to
precise, you can still follow the wiki process I pointed to request for
one and see if anyone is interested in figuring out what changes should
be backported to fix that issue in old series

[Bug 519935] Re: unable to eject cd-rom after burning disk

2014-02-19 Thread John Rose
This happens when multiple copies are requested to be burned. After
ejecting the new DVD manually, it then displays another popup stating
that insertion of a new blank DVD will cause another copy to be created.
However, it doesn't start burning. Workaround is to end brasero process
(in System Monitor) & to start brasero again.

Please advise whether a new bug should be created.
