[Bug 1157914] [NEW] time never catches up to reality after VM sleep

2014-03-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I run Ubuntu in a VM, then sleep the VM for a little while, I
expect time to eventually catch up to reality, because I have "Set the
time ... Automatically from the Internet". However, time never does
catch up.

I can trigger a catch up by toggling the datetime indicator to
"Manually", wait a little bit, then toggle back to "Automatically from
the Internet". I may have to do this a couple of times to fix the time.

This tells me that it's not a problem with the VM environment
specifically, but a problem with coordinating time over the internet.

Workaround is to edit javascript.lang for example in Ubuntu 13.04:

/usr/share/gtksourceview-2.0/language-specs/javascript.lang

Comment out the "class" keyword in the "future-words" section:

This issue comes up when working with jQuery, for example:
$div = $('', {class:'foo'});

Same problem also occurs in gtksourceview3

[Bug 1289581] [NEW] closing document in presentation mode does not work

2014-03-07 Thread Martin Konopka
Public bug reported:

Using the command line, I open a PDF document (a multipage document
having the A4 paper size, generated with pdflatex). E.g.

evince myfile.pdf

I switch to the presentation mode (F5).
Then I want to close the document using the usual keystroke Ctrl w.
The whole display becomes white and the document is not closed.
Pressing just Ctrl (while the display is blank) turns the document page back to
the visible status (in the presentation mode).
The only way to close the document is first to exit the presentation mode (and
afterwards it can be closed normally).
To my knowledge, such behaviour did not occurr in ubuntu 11.04 (with the
classic Gnome desktop shell) and older versions.

That is not a hack. Tim asked me to do that because he is going to update
gnome-settings-daemon to 3.10, which will remove some features used by
flashback session.

Identifying as Unity will make us use unity-settings-daemon instead.

Actually this files has something like this AA << /D <> >>
so when clicking on the help widget, it should go away. So at least this is NOT
related to our lack of javascript but two bugs in poppler. One is that we don't
support Hide actions and the other is that the glib frontend does not support
additional actions... these two should be filed as different bugs (and I will
do so later)

@Norbert: that option is not likely to be exposed in unity-control-

(those non standard xorg specific keyboard options are not needed by the
vast majority of users), maybe unity-tweak-tool could list those though

[Bug 371618]

2014-03-07 Thread James E. LaBarre
It's more than calculations and such; I've encountered a document that
has a "helpscreen" overlay that you are supposed to click on to make the
box go away when you're done reading it. But since it is apparently
using javascript to do it, you cannot get rid of the box, which covers a
majority of the page, and tehrefore cannot fill out the fields. So no,
not an enhancement, definitely a bug, since the document is completely
unusable without the JS support.

  (log out, log in)

If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using:

  sudo apt-mark hold compiz
  sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon
  sudo apt-mark hold unity

If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using:

  sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

  === compiz ===

Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press
order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the
  same type

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
"['Shift_L']"
  - holding left shift, press and release ctrl
-> the current input source should change

Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key
bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would
normally prevent a possible tap from occurring.

  === unity ===

Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing
them from propagating down to applications

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift
  - open gnome-terminal
  - press ctrl+shift+t
  -> gnome-terminal should open a new tab

Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could
collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the "next layout key" entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
-> the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
"['Shift_L']"
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
-> the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1245188] Re: Unable to set the physical keyboard LED to show an alternative layout

2014-03-07 Thread Norbert
@Sebastien,
please do not make new unity-control-center less functional than last usable
gnome-control-center (I mean full-functional version 3.4.2 in Ubuntu 12.04).

And as I wrote before in bug 1270574 - please realize the following - "keyboard
layout settings must be consistent between gnome-control-center keyboard,
indicator-keyboard and gnome-tweak-tool and /etc/default/keyboard".
As I remember pre-installatio of gnome-tweak-tool by default (see bug 1270572)
is not possible because of dependence on gnome-shell. For now I unable to
configure almost all settings on GNOME FlashBack session in Ubuntu 14.04 with
unity-control-center (see for example bug 1282637).

I still hope that unity-control-center will provide users with universal
interface for system configuration (and session-independent).
I'm ready to help you and other developers to test the newest features of the
software.

So, this corresponds to urfkill being started. Which is because urfkill
is marked as 'start on started udev'.

I don't know why urfkill wasn't /already/ running; it wasn't part of
this upgrade and its 'stop condition is 'stop on shutdown' which
wouldn't have been met. And there is no /var/log/upstart/urfkill.log.

/var/log/dmesg suggests that it failed to start on boot, dying with
SIGTRAP:

[ 11.585810] init: urfkill main process (755) killed by TRAP signal
[ 11.585839] init: urfkill main process ended, respawning
[ 11.598492] init: urfkill main process (760) killed by TRAP signal
[ 11.598521] init: urfkill respawning too fast, stopped

So, reassigning to urfkill.

I've found one more highly annoying issue regarding layout switch. The
active application loses the focus for a short time, causing all sorts
of misbehavior depending on the application. See bug 1289495 for

[Bug 1289495] [NEW] Applications temporarily lose focus on layout change

2014-03-07 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

A child of bug 1218322 (aka keyboard layout switch being a complete
disaster since 13.10).

When switching layout using a hotkey (e.g. Alt+Shift), the currently
active application loses focus for a short period. Depending on the
application, it causes all sorts of misbehavior, including:

- In Gedit, press Ctrl+F to search for something, and change the layout
in the middle of typing the word you're searching for. The search dialog
closes and subsequent letters are inserted into the text file.

- In Libreoffice, press Ctrl+F to search for something, and change the
layout in the middle of typing the word you're searching for. The
previously entered word gets selected, hence the next keypress erases
it.

- In Firefox, begin composing a Gmail message. Highlight a part of the
text with the intent that the next keypress will erase it and replace
with the key pressed. Switch layout before pressing the desired letter.
Notice that the highlighed part is lost.

- In Firefox, inside Facebook's list of active chat users, begin
searching for a username. Change the layout. The entered text (partial
name of a friend) is lost.

- In any GTK app, try entering a Unicode character by Ctrl+Shift+U
followed by the number. While entering the number, change the layout.
(E.g. I switch between Hungarian and English, where Hungarian
unexpectedly produces "ö" where my intent is "0"). The partial Unicode
hex code is lost, I have to start again by Ctrl+Shift+U followed by the
hex code.

I'm sure there are plenty of similar issues.

Changing the keyboard layout should be transparent to applications and
should not break the flow of typing characters under any circumstance.

[Bug 417863] Re: bluetooth headset pairs but not available for audio

2014-03-07 Thread Chris Stratford
I'm seeing virtually the same behaviour under trusty on a headset that
worked fine on raring (it was a bit iffy on saucy, but I think it
eventually worked there too)

This is a Plantronics ML10 headset. It pairs ok, gets listed in sound
settings, but selecting it there has no effect and no sound gets
directed to the headset.

[Bug 1289428] [NEW] Dual monitor layout is lost after external display disconnect

2014-03-07 Thread robled
Public bug reported:

I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s laptop. I frequently connect it to
external monitors. Upon disconnecting and reconnecting, the dual
monitor layout is not restored and must be manually re-configured each
time. This is reproducible each time I reconnect to a previously
configured external monitor. This may be a regression from Ubuntu 13.10
since I recall it working fine on that release.

I'm attaching some screenshots, xrandr output, and my monitors.xml file.

That one is indeed now known. Which formats can it handle and which are
its playback/record folders? It's very likely that it's identical (or
sufficiently similar) to one of the existing Sansa Clip models, check in
/usr/share/media-player-info/sandisk_sansa-clip*

[Bug 965953] Re: Indicator menus are too short and scroll when opened from screen bottom

2014-03-07 Thread Lanoxx
@Ian Lane:

The issue happens only when the panel is at the bottom, not at the top.
The issue also most frequently happens with Skype, but also sometimes
with other applets such as network-manager or dropbox. It appears
particularly after the menuitems in the menu change, such as when a new
Wireless network has been detected or the network adaper looses/gains a
connection. Try pulling the network cabel from your notebook and the
network-manager menu will collapse to 0px height. After that only a
restart of the applet can fix the issue.

[Bug 1263228] Re: icons in indicators are small (difficult to view on FullHD display and smaller than was on 12.04)

2014-03-07 Thread Norbert
Thank you, Dmitry! It seems that I marked more packages that it really
needed, but indicator-messages has small icons too.

Sebastien, I'm sorry, but small Ubuntu circle in "Application" and "Places"
menu bar come from gnome-panel package ( + Right Mouse Click on a panel ->
Add to panel -> "Menu Bar"/"A custom menu bar").
I grepped my system for "A custom menu bar" - and this string is located in
/usr/bin/gnome-panel file (you can test it on your 14.04 system with 'cat
/usr/bin/gnome-panel | grep "A custom menu bar" -a'). So gnome-panel package is
affected too.

Problem may come from system-wide library as glib or pixman, I do not
know exactly.

[Bug 1289239] [NEW] emapthy loads ./mozilla/plugins on chat start

2014-03-07 Thread Oleksij Rempel
Public bug reported:

On chart start, empathy trying to load ./mozilla/plugins. In case there is
pipelight plugin it will pull complete wine with it in to memory. In this case,
chat window will need some seconds to start.
IMO it is not only bad user experience, it is important security issue.
May be it is couse of some other chat related issues.

Ways to reproduce:
- install pipelight-multi

For example firefox.
- open terminal and run: watch "ps aux | grep wine"

[Bug 1271591] Re: upstart job race prevents gnome-keyring from being ssh agent

2014-03-07 Thread Leon
I can confirm what Andre is saying: launching a terminal via the
launcher or the dash (or synapse) results in Unity not using gnome-
keyring. If I launch via ctrl-alt-t gnome-keyring is used.

Launch via the dash:
SSH_AGENT_PID=2253
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-y0YsIQziIbZX/agent.2249

Launch via ctr-alt-t:
SSH_AGENT_PID=2253
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/run/user/1000/keyring-0WLPB7/ssh
