2014-03-24 Thread Jobin Raju George
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

I have a 1TB external hard-disk which I usually keep attached to my
laptop. It is noticed that when if I want to remove my external hard-
disk safely from the laptop I find the "Safely remove option" only if I
had not attached it before booting up.

  lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
  Release:14.04
  Codename: trusty

  apt-cache policy nautilus
  nautilus:
Installed: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8
Candidate: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8

   *** 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8 0
  500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What did I expect to happen?
Whenever I attach an external hard-disk to my laptop, the option to "Safely
Remove Drive" should always be present.

  What actually happened?
  1) If I mounted the external hard-disk before I powered on my laptop, the
option to "Safely Remove Device" is not present.

- 2) If I mounted the external hard-disk after logging into my account,
- the option to "Safely Remove Device" is present.

[Bug 1296615] [NEW] seahorse hangs when adding subkey

2014-03-24 Thread Lars Noodén
Public bug reported:

Seahorse hangs every time when trying to add a subkey

PGP Keys -> (key) -> Properties -> Details -> Subkeys/Add -> type: RSA
(sign only), key length: 2048

It does not seem to matter which key type or the size. Instead of adding the
key, seahorse just stops responding. Eventually if I try to close the window,
a dialog box pops up with this message:

The window "..." does not seem to be
responding. Do you want to force it to exit by
   sending the terminate signal?
   CancelEnd Process

Waiting does not bring a response from seahorse, it seems gone.

2014-03-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at

It turns out that gtk+ 3.10.4, which we have in openSUSE 13.1, already has that
commit. Previous versions don't need it, as far as I can tell. I'm terribly
sorry; I forgot to reassign this to security-team.
Markus Kolb 2013-12-12 10:31:16 UTC

Hi, I can confirm that the Federico's gtk3 patch fixes the icon problem.
Everything is running smoothly here now ;-)
I think you can release the fixes altogether.
[found via
http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/492849-GNOME-3-Missing-Icons ] )

I don`t know if it is helpful, but my gtk+ Version is 3.6.2.

We did not ship Ubuntu 12.10 with gtk+ 3.6.2, it came with gtk+ 3.6.0.
You need to use the gtk package that comes with 12.10 if you do not want
a regression.

Please downgrade your installation to gtk+3.0 3.6.0-0ubuntu3.3.

[Bug 1296049] Re: File manager crashes when I open Documents folder

2014-03-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 1239087] Re: Safely remove is not working (or broken) in Gnome Disks

2014-03-24 Thread Abhirav Kumar
For me the command “udisks --detach /dev/sdX” detaches the device for a
second and the device is then redetected and mounted again always

How ever the command “sg_start --stop /dev/sdX” does the same in the first try
and actually detached and turned off my hdd
in the first try but after that I've been getting the same results as above

I performed these tests with my Seagate Backup Plus Drive on Ubuntu

[Bug 1239087] Re: Safely remove is not working (or broken) in Gnome Disks

2014-03-24 Thread Abhirav Kumar
Viola, it actually worked this time
My steps on the same configuration were:

1."sg_start --start /dev/sdX"
2."sg_start --stop /dev/sdX"

And my drive i.e Seagate Backup Plus Drive was powered down for about 1
minute or so then I don't know why or how it restarted

Triaged/High since this is pretty obviously in part caused by an issue

I've been testing this, it seems like the issue might be due to the
session handling in the mtp daemon.

[Bug 1281058] Re: The system shutdowns when multiple accounts are open

2014-03-24 Thread Robert Ancell
gnome-session just triggers the shell (unity or unity-greeter) to show
the shutdown dialog. So I think this has to be solved in those two
places not gnome-session.

We need a design for how to integrate this into the existing dialogs.

[Bug 1296517] Re: gedit crash erases all data in open files

2014-03-24 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better.

It looks like you had some PPA enabled before upgrade (you should always
ppa-purge these before upgrading!) which has left incompatible packages
on your system.

Downgrading gnome-control-center to the version currently in Trusty
(3.6.3) should resolve this issue

[Bug 1281058] Re: The system shutdowns when multiple accounts are open

2014-03-24 Thread Stephen M. Webb
The session indicator is what's actually used to start the
restart/shutdown process. It already tracks the current login sessions
(via logind) and either instigates the shutdown dialog via Unity or uses
Zenity to display an alternative shutdown dialog. It needs to modify
its Zenity dialog and add additional information (userlist?) when
sending its request to Unity, and Unity needs to be modified to handle
that data,.

[Bug 1297051] [NEW] gnome-terminal doesn't recognise C1 controls

2014-03-24 Thread boon
Public bug reported:

gnome-terminal seems not to recognise the C1 control characters.

The particular character that is a problem for me is CSI. However there
may be a generic issue with non-support of this whole range of
characters.

This range of characters should only be recognised when the encoding is
a character set that is defined to include the C1 control characters
but, at a quick look, that is all of the ISO-8859-x character sets and
Unicode. (C1 control characters require encoding as a 2 byte sequence
when the encoding is UTF-8. As unlikely as this may be to occur in
practice, UTF-8 is not inconsistent with C1 control characters.)

Part of the motivation for raising this bug report is that PuTTY seems
to have declined in reliability recently and so I looked at why I am
using PuTTY as opposed to gnome-terminal. Correct support of C1 control
characters is one reason. This works in PuTTY. It does not appear to
work in gnome-terminal. Perhaps resources would be better spent making
gnome-terminal work as well as PuTTY does, rather than attempting to get
PuTTY fixed.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1296233] Re: increase in number of wakeups in recent release in indicator-datetime

2014-03-24 Thread Ryan Lortie
This is my fault indeed. I introduced the code that added this watch
without remembering that it does the wrong thing in the case of missing
directories. I think the correct fix here is to reevaluate our approach
to dealing with missing files in the inotify monitor...

Re: [Bug 1080492] Re: While using Orca, file opporations window becomes inaccessible.

2014-03-24 Thread Jeremy Lincicome
1. copy a few folders from your music folder to your home folder. One GB
or more would work best.
2. Replace the folders/files you copied back into your music folder. You
will get the replace file dialog. That dialog should read fine. After
you accept the dialog, you get the copy progress dialog. If you try to
use flat review to read the window, Orca will either say "blank" or
"filler." The current file being copied, file size, percent of progress,
and remaining time should be read by Orca when using flat review.
