[Bug 1297105] [NEW] evince thinks libsm missing if on different mount/filesystem

2014-03-25 Thread Jan Groenewald
Public bug reported:

Reference:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/372050/can-not-run-evince-says-shared-library-is-missing

$ evince
evince: error while loading shared libraries: libSM.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

However libSM is there, and other applications using can find and open
it (e.g. gv)

We had this issue on a 32bit Ubuntu 12.04.3, with

/ mounted ext4
/usr1 mounted ext3
and /usr/lib a symbolic link to /usr1/lib
(along with a few other directories in /usr being symlinks to directories
residing in /usr1)

The problem disappeared when removing the symlink and moving /usr1/lib
into /usr

Previously:

strace:
open(/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libSM.so.6, O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1
EACCES (Permission denied)

and

ltrace:
SYS_open(/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libSM.so..., 524288, 00) = -13
SYS_stat64(0xbfccdbb0, 0xbfccdc40, 0xb7713ff4, 16, 0xb76f0064) = 0

[Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

Trusty has gnome-settings-daemon 3.8.6. Support for XF86AudioMicMute was added

I believe gnome-settings-daemon (and unity-settings-daemon) need to
backport that patch for XF86AudioMicMute support.

immediately upon SIGKILL. On several machines, device initialization
phase takes more than 30 seconds before kthread_create() is called.

Since systemd-udevd unconditionally sends SIGKILL upon hardcoded 30
seconds timeout, boot is failing upon such machines. The conclusion
of LKML discussion seems that we should fix systemd-udevd side
rather than fixing kthread_create() side because hardcoded 30 seconds
timeout is considered as a bug of systemd. Therefore, please consider
allowing configurable (or at least much longer) timeout for
systemd-udevd worker process.

FWIW, I have tried to create a package, with the patch (obviously not
properly) refreshed, but it failed to build (against gnome-terminal in
trusty, built in a saucy pbuilder):

libtool: link: gcc -pthread -DVTE_SEAL_ENABLE -I/usr/include/glib-2.0
-I/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include -I/usr/include/pango-1.0

/tmp/buildd/gnome-terminal-3.6.2/src/terminal-screen.c:769: undefined reference

Maybe it will work in the trusty PPA?

At least there is a patch therein, which applies.

[Bug 1297363] [NEW] [FFe] Add cgmanager support

2014-03-25 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

I'd like to add cgmanager support to systemd-logind so that in
environment where it doesn't have direct access to the cgroup hierarchy
(most notably unprivileged LXC containers), it'll be able to use
cgmanager to perform all the operations it needs.

This is implemented through a patch directly against our current version
of systemd, this isn't upstreamable code as it's a bit hackish and
current upstream systemd has now switched logind to using the systemd
cgroup API rather than performing direct accesses.

The change in question is available at:
https://code.launchpad.net/~stgraber/ubuntu/trusty/systemd/logind-cgmanager/+merge/211649

This has been reviewd by Serge Hallyn (author of cgmanager) and Martin
Pitt and tested quite a bit here, so I'm pretty confident this will work
as intended.

For systems that do not ship cgmanager (currently everyone but those using
LXC), logind will use the old code path without any change whatsoever, for
those with cgmanager installed (detected by the presence of
/sys/fs/cgroup/cgmanager/sock), logind will attempt to connect to it and use
it. If the connection fails, it'll fallback to using the filesystem directly.

I'm sorry for the late FFe, but this was stuck on the security team processing
the MIR of cgmanager which took a couple of months... It finally got accepted
earlier this week and I'm planning to upload LXC 1.0.2 later this week which
will pull it into main, then followed shortly by systemd should this FFe be
approved.

Landing would happen right after Beta 2 is out.

[Bug 1296275] Re: Canon PowerShot Cameras not working on 14.04, works flawlessly on 12.04

2014-03-25 Thread Thomas Rosted Jensen
Workaround #2:

Install gphotofs package.
In terminal - create a folder - e.g. PowerShot:

 mkdir PowerShot

Next turn on camers in view mode, and type:

 gphotofs PowerShot/

Now files are available in file manager/browser (Files).
I could not unmount camera in file manager - so in terminal i typed:

 killall gphotofs

[Bug 272749] Re: Set window manager URGENT hint on bell.

2014-03-25 Thread Daniel Hahler
There should show up a package at
https://launchpad.net/~blueyed/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/4046208/+listing-

However, I do not see the options (and they are not in the patch as far
as I can see).

From your description it also does not look like it solves the single
set the X client/window's urgent flag on the event of a terminal bell,
as in `sleep 5; echo ^G` (try C-VC-G to get the real ^G (bell
code)) and then tabbing away.

[Bug 1297566] [NEW] Dialpad does not accept touchscreen input

2014-03-25 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

I am using empathy to make VOIP calls to a conference call system. I am
trying to use my touchscreen to enter numbers in the dialpad, but that
does not work. Using the mouse to enter numbers in the dialpad works
just fine.

To reproduce:
1) Start a new VOIP call (Ctrl-M); make a call (I am dialed into a conference
line)
2) In the call window, click the dialpad button to show the dialpad
3) Use the touchscreen to enter numbers in the dialpad

Expected results:
Using the touchscreen to enter numbers in the dialpad works: pressing a number
on the dialpad results in the number being displayed in the small text field
above the dialpad

Actual results:
Using the touchscreen to enter numbers in the dialpad does not work. The
dialpad buttons depress as if the button was being pressed, but the numbers are
not entered in the small text field above the dialpad

Using the mouse to click buttons in the dialpad works just fine for me.
The touchscreen itself is working fine on this machine.

[Bug 509660] Re: Resuming from standby/hibernate, screen is blank until key is pressed

2014-03-25 Thread Charles Kerr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates

I'm not able to reproduce this issue when testing in 14.04 -- when
resuming from sleep, I see the new unity lockscreen before any keypress,
mouse motion, or mouse click.

It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported
Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload
the updated logs by running apport-collect bug # and any other logs
that are relevant for this particular issue.
