[Bug 1299999] Re: Lao characters not rendering

2014-03-31 Thread cc young
discussion of line height in Lao and Thai

in Lao and Thai, the amount of vertical space required depends on how
high and how low vowels and tone marks are stacked on the consonant.

one can either select the max above and max below the consonant to
determine a fixed line height, or one could analyze the line and set
line height according to need.

the first approach is simpler, but usually results in a lot of wasted
space. consonants with both a vowel and tone mark above probably occur
in about 30% of the lines in a typical newspaper, for example.

below there are three occurrences: a character is a descender, eg, ຽ, a
vowel below, eg, ດູ, and the weird ຫຼ. (ຫຼ with ອູ vowel beneath is
theoretically possible but I can find no occurrences in the dictionary.)
descenders occurr in about 30% of the lines in a newspaper.

letting descenders and stacked tone marks share the same space is
possible if one horizontally adjusted the two lines to prevent
collision. (fixed width font makes no sense in Lao or Thai.) this
would allow a fixed line height that not too obscene, but kerning
between lines is pretty weird.

[Bug 997370] Re: Totem does not use the va-api gstreamer backend

Good news it seems ( and I'm surprise nobody told it here ) , the needed
Fix for Totem was introduced by gnome team in April 2012 :

But I don't see if it's still working for Totem 3.10.1 which I guess
uses gstream 1.0

[Bug 1244099] [NEW] Adding additional account to Shotwell publish list doesn't work

2014-03-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If you try to add additional account to publish images nothing happens,
and this error messages show up:

$ shotwell
(shotwell:12635): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_app_info_get_commandline: assertion
`G_IS_APP_INFO (appinfo)' failed
(shotwell:12635): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_spawn_command_line_async: assertion
`command_line != NULL' failed

After searching online I fount this forum post:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47t=117507

So it is a simple dependency issue.

Please include gnome-control-center-signon as dependency for Shotwell.

I changed the package from gstreamer0.10 to gstreamer1.0 since 0.10

[Bug 1300308] [NEW] select items matching (ctrl+s) only selects one file

2014-03-31 Thread cometdog
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:
1. open folder in files/nautilus which contains multiple files and/or folders
2. type ctrl+s to bring up the select items matching dialog

4. choose OK

observed behavior:
 - only the first matching file is selected

expected benavior:
 - all matching files should be selected

nonfunctional, and is a regression from earlier versions of nautilus /

[Bug 1300392] Crash report cannot be processed

2014-03-31 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libva1: package version 1.2.1-2 dbgsym
version 1.1.1-3

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1292041] Re: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen

2014-03-31 Thread Pausanias
Is there a workaround?

Better question: is there any hope of GNOME developers *not* breaking
critical functionality from release to release? After 12 years with
Ubuntu, I can come up with a huge list of extremely frustrating and
sometimes downright dangerous regressions, almost all of them in GNOME,
and almost all of them affecting a feature that was working perfectly
well in a previous release.

[Bug 772709] Re: Network Manager Icon Is not changin when VPN is connected (nm-device-wired-secure icon is missing)

2014-03-31 Thread Never Follow
Confirming that the bug still exists in Lubuntu 13.10, as far as the nm-
signal*secure.svg files are concerned for the default Lubuntu theme.

Workaround as above (#18); note that the default theme seems/is
'Lubuntu', so use that theme as basis:

sudo cp -a lubuntu new theme directory
cd new theme directory
sudo vi index.theme
sudo cp ../Humanity-Dark/status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg panel/22/

Lastly, choose the modified theme in Preferences - Customize Look and

[Bug 1300514] [NEW] Account with UID 501 disappeared after update

2014-03-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After today performing a system update from 13.10 [previously updated
cca 1mo ago], my account with UID has disappeared from lightdm.

/etc/login.defs, /etc/adduser.conf and /etc/lightdm/users.conf have all
been configured to treat users with minimum UID 500 as regular users.

The remark in users.conf mentioning AccountsService gave me a hint to
explore what this service is. It's very nasty that this completely
opaque and unknown service determines whether an account will appear on
the list or not.

Digging around its process /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon
(what a nasty place to put this binary) using strace, I noticed
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/myusername is being accessed. This may be
obvious to developers, but to someone troubleshooting, it's bad and
unexpected.

I fixed my issue by editing the aforementioned file and replacing
SystemAccount=true with SystemAccount=false, killing the accounts-
daemon and (to avoid restart) starting it in terminal. This would all be
worth just a rant instead of a bug report, were it not for the fact that
only today have I logged in correctly from the main screen, updated the
system, and after only a reboot -- without touching or knowing about
/var/lib/AccountsService/users directory -- my account has disappeared.
Either this directory was automagically touched, or SystemAccount=true
previously didn't affect lightdm.

Please provide and expose a canonical and universal place to determine
minimum UID for the system to treat a user account as a human account.
Having three somewhat-documented files and none of them having effect
upon accountsservice is quite bad.

If this package is inappropriate for this bug report, please reassign.

[The reason why UID 1000 is no-good are OS X partitions -- on which I'd
like to be able to access my files without resorting to sudo voodoo. The
default UID on OS X happens to be 501.]

Re-assigning to accountsservice as this is the service that lightdm
queries as to which users to show. Correct, we did change lightdm to
honour the SystemAccount flag which is what has caused this problem for
you.

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2014-03-31 Thread Jordan Farrell
I am sorry if you feel that I have disappeared. I did not intend it that
way. I did what I could to help. The developers of empathy stated that
they could not implement OTR unless they had a spec first. They also
forced the issue that my spec had to include XTLS. I am only a novice
programer and certianly not a spec writer, I also volunteered for far
more then I could handle hoping that OTR would be a welcome addition to
Telepathy. Unfortunately even after the Spec was ready for review, it
never recieved a review. I also was working in Python as that is what I
program in, and Telepathy removed support for Python around this same
time. JPRvita told me that he would take my spec and complete it for
XTLS and that he could program in C. For a long time it looked like this
would work. JPRvita had a solid spec, but as happend with me the spec
was never reviewed, I am not sure what happened to him and his GSoC
XTLS/OTR Spec for Telepathy.

References:
http://jprvita.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/otr-over-xmpp-on-telepathy/
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/telepathy/2011-June/005583.html

Honestly my take is that this is a developer issue, they don't want OTR
and no one can force it upon them.

So I got over it and I use Pidgin.

FYI for cbris or ScotlandHacks you should use jprvita's Spec it was
much further along than mine, it is here: https://gitorious.org/jprvita-
repos/telepathy-gabble/source/
