[Bug 1290697] Re: Font rendering is broken
Jeff is correct. Easy way to reproduce: take a short text file and view it in Gedit, making sure that all the text appears within the window, the font is fine. If you start resizing the window, the second a scroll bar appears (i.e. some of the text is hidden) the font becomes distorted. Maybe this has something to do with the new Unity decorations? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290697 Title: Font rendering is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1290697/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1290697] Re: Font rendering is broken
Changing 'rgb' to 'rgba' in xsettings fixed the issue in Gedit for me. However, setting to rgba makes other apps render text poorly. After screwing around for hours I did something that fixed that thought, but I'm not 100% sure what it was. I think it was a fontconfig file buried somewhere in my home dir. I removed all instances of fontconfig in my home folder. Lastly, I setup a fonts.conf file to clean up any text that still looked a bit off. With that said, here's a list of steps to try and resolve it 1. Remove (backup first) all instances of fontconfigs in your home directory (I think there was one in ~/.local/share/ ~/.config/) 2. Change rgb to rgba via dconf-editor org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings rgba-order 3. Download fonts.conf attachment and place in ~/.config/fontconfig/ 4. Reboot ** Attachment added: fonts.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1290697/+attachment/4088467/+files/fonts.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290697 Title: Font rendering is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1290697/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1309918] [NEW] Upgrading Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 leads to broken logins
Public bug reported: Hello, I just upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 with the ISO Image. When Upgrading I was asked to create a new user. That suprised me, but anyway, I followed the instructions and the upgrading lead me finally to the login screen. I was missing all user accounts, but the one I created new. This new one works fine, even though I was recreating the same administration account as on Ubuntu 12.04. Because of the missing accounts, I created new user accounts, with the same names as on Ubuntu 12.04. Now, I realized that I can not login to any of these accounts! It is simply aborted with no error message at all. I assumed this must be an upgrade error and created a completly new account. This account works fine. So can anyone confirm on this behavior? This computer is not very essential to me, so I can leave it as it is for a few days and if there are any responces I can provide you with further information. After a few seconds, the mouse cursor became able to move, but sluggishly, and interact with the windows. The top bar didn't re-spawn, nor was I able to reach another virtual desktop or to disable the zoom effect. The only I could do was to drag the window around on the screen, which produced artifacts, leaving blackness in its wake where it passed over the desktop wallpaper. [Bug 1309971] [NEW] other workspaces are blank with no way to switch back
Public bug reported: What I did; - upgraded to 14.04 trusty - installed gnome-session-flashback - logged out; logged in with gnome flashback (compiz) - in the lower left corner, right click to bring up preferences; change number of workspaces to 4 - click on workspace 3 What I expected: - a panel (with clock etc.) above and a (mostly) blank taskbar below with a workspace switcher - or at least the ability to get back to workspace 1 using ALT-arrow What I saw instead: - a screen completely blank except for the background - no way to change workspaces, launch programs log out, etc. I had to CTRL-ALT-F1 and loging and `sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart` to log in again. I feel extremely uneasy because I am a user of free software and I am full of respect and gratitude for the people who make this possible, including of course Nicolas Mailhot. [Bug 1245473] Re: Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program
Gmm... I updated to 14.04 just yesterday and it looks that bug vanished. Tested shorcuts in terminal (ctrl+shift+c/ctrl+shift+v) in Brackets IDE and in Firefox (ctl+shift+arrows, ctrl+shift+s). It is also looks that applications do not loose focus when layout switching. So, I can't confirm this bug in 14.04. P.S. It looks that PrintScreen works only for windows (alt+print) at all. [Bug 1310097] [NEW] rhythmbox segfaults when switching between songs on a CD
Public bug reported: I have an audio CD, and I'm playing songs from it by double-clicking in the left-most column (labelled with a speaker) on the CD ripping screen. Once a song is playing and I switch songs, or the song ends and rhythmbox should move onto the next song, rhythmbox crashes. The CD may be scratched, so I'd expect read errors -- but not the whole application to crash, and certainly not with such consistency. [Bug 221112]
(In reply to comment #60) Gentlemen, I am really stuck at that point. Allow me to sum it up. - Nicolas is the sole advocate of having Control_R mapped to Level5. - The rest of us want to go back to having both left and right Control behaving the same way. I'm not quite sure how you want us to organize a vote or poll. French Linux users (just like non-French ones) use a variety of distributions (which, BTW, may not ship the changed version of xkeyboard-config), and may not even all use a French keyboard (I'd say roughly half of my Linux-using friends and coworkers are using US qwerty layouts or mac layouts). Since apparently no hardware maker is following ISO standards, may I suggest creating new layouts such as oss-iso with Nicolas' changes? As one of Gentoo's X11 maintainers, I am really tempted to just revert that change downstream. The few French users I have talked to were just as surprised as I was to lose their Control_R key for no apparent reason. I could organize a poll on my blog but being aggregated only on Planet Gentoo, I wouldn't give much credit to any numbers I could find. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
I just upgraded to 14.04 and I'm affected by the same bug that was bothering me in 13.10. I use combinations shift+shift-R and shift+shift-L to switch back and forth to 3 layouts. Unfortunately, since 13.10 that this bug was introduced, the difference between left and right combinations is gone. Although I can set them without getting a conflict error, they will act as if both are the same combination. [Bug 978825] Re: Seeking disabled when starting podcast after downloading it
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 and tested podcast downloads with Rhythmbox. The bug does affect me too, though I would make some changes to the steps to reproduce: 1. Subscribe to a podcast 2. Doubleclick on an old episode to download it 3. Start playing it while it is still being downloaded 4. Try seeking a position by clicking on the seek bar. It doesn't work. (The seek bar is disabled.) Even after the download is completed, the seek bar still doesn't work. You have to start another (already downloaded) podcast and then start the one you really want to listen to again to get it to reappear As unlikely as it may seem, the specific podcast seems to matter. The bug happened for the exact same feed as the OP's, but not for two others that I tested.
