[Bug 1328820] [NEW] GDM doesn't start on boot

2014-06-11 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Public bug reported:

I've install Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 on a machine, and when it boots, it remains
stuck on plymouth animation screen.
When I press CTRL+ALT+F1, I can login from tty1.
When I checked the :0-greeter.log I found some bunch of errors.

>From the terminal, if I run: 'sudo restart gdm', gdm starts, and
:0-greeter.log doesn't have errors.

Log files will be attached.

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1035431] Re: bluetooh-wizard failed to connect to a keyboard(logitech)

2014-06-11 Thread Tim Chen
@Scott,

Hi, thanks for the testing and feedback,
that was because gnome bluetooth wizard is waiting the SSP callback event from
the agent (and it may have different timing for different devices), currently
it will briefly shows the usual PIN code page and switch to the SSP page when
it recieve the callback event.

I will try to get some time to see how to fix this more properly and not
broke gnome bluetooth wizard's current structure since this indeed
affect user experience, but the current patch should be enough to fix
the original SSP paring issue.

[Bug 1161689] Re: Movie player controls don't show up in fullscreen when using a trackpad

2014-06-11 Thread Joonas Saarinen

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883272

Confirmed also on HP 2230s laptop (Core 2 Duo, GM45). I am also using
the touchpad.

Mouse cursor and video player controls do not appear in full screen.

However, sometimes when moving the mouse cursor around rigorously for a
longer time, the controls and mouse cursor do appear.

[Bug 367372] Re: Gedit uses 100% of the CPU while editing files

2014-06-11 Thread Jack De Waele
I'm on Trusty and just got this same issue with gedit, 95%CPU and
slow/no response to typing. This is the first time I got this. I noticed
that it only occured when I open gedit via the launcher to create a new
document. I then opened gedit by double-clicking an existing textfile
and it opened without problem, no heavy CPU load, good response, even
for a new empty file. After closing gedit and start via the launcher
everything was OK again. But this makes it impossible for me to
reproduce the issue and investigate some more.

[Bug 1287341] Re: Touchscreen controls both screens in dual-monitor setup

2014-06-11 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Steve, or anyone else affected,

Accepted unity-settings-daemon into trusty-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-
settings-daemon/14.04.0+14.04.20140606-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then
in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1242678] Re: evince cannot render some EPS files

2014-06-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
A fixed package for Trusty got uploaded to trusty-proposed. As soon as
this package gets approved, instructions for installing it for testing
get posted here. Please follow the instructions and test them, as your
feedback is required for the package to make it into the official
updates for Trusty.

** Description changed:

  I upgraded to Ubuntu Saucy,
  evince cannot render EPS files generated by gnuplot.
  (Just show an empty page.)
-

  [how to reproduce]

  1. Generate an EPS file using gnuplot by executing the following command.
  $ gnuplot -e "set terminal postscript; set output 'test.eps'; plot x;"

  2. Open the file "test.eps" just created.
  $ evince "test.eps"

  The following are what evince writes to the terminal.

  (evince:24176): EvinceDocument-CRITICAL **: ev_document_get_n_pages:
  assertion 'EV_IS_DOCUMENT (document)' failed

  (evince:24176): Gtk-WARNING **: drawing failure for widget `EvView':
  invalid matrix (not invertible)

  (evince:24176): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion
  'width > 0 && height > 0' failed

  (evince:24176): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_from_surface: assertion
  'width > 0 && height > 0' failed

  3. Then evince just shows an empty (white) page.

  ===

  If i rotate 90 or -90 degree by pressing Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right key,
  evince can show this file correctly.

  ===

  Okular, GIMP, inkscape and gs can show this EPS file.
  (may be rotated 90 degree, however)

+
+ [Impact]
+
+ With the default viewer for PostrScript and EPS files, many files do not
+ display and produce errors/warnings. Users usually do not know that they
+ can visualize these files by rotating the page and rotated it is also
+ not in a very useful orientation.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Display the attached EPS file with evince or follow the steps under "how
+ to reproduce" above. Rotate the page via Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right and the
+ image is only visible for two of the four orientations. Withe the
+ proposed package the problem get solved. The image is visible in all the
+ four orientations.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low, as tested with various files and reviewed by several upstream
+ developers.
+
+

[Bug 1329070] [NEW] Shotwell crashes when viewing photos imported from ext usb hard drive (connected)

2014-06-11 Thread Marcello Romani
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

Import pictures from ext hd:
1) Launch Shotwell
2) Import from folder (without copying), point to a folder located on an
ext4-formatted external USB hard drive.
3) Import completes successfully.
4) Close shotwell.

(Shutdown and power on laptop).

1) connect the usb hard drive; the folder where the pictures where imported
from is accessible through Nautilus
2) Launch Shotwell from command line: the thumbnails show up without issues.
3) Double click on a thumbnail: as soon as the image is shown in low-res,
filling the entire right-hand area of the application, Shotwell crashes with

[Bug 1096837] Re: [apparmor] Evince does not save files to external disks unless I rename them with the .pdf extension

2014-06-11 Thread Klaus Bielke
I can confirm this bug, see #1327161.

Even worse, it affects also opening a file without a tailing '.pdf' on a
drive mounted under /media/…

This bug exist for a long time. I see it under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (evince
2.30.3-0ubuntu1.3, under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1.7 and
under 14.04 LTS (evince 3.10.3-0ubuntu10).

Hey @eugenesan - I followed your instructions on installing your patched
packages, but it was still not working for me, at least using
tightvncserver on a newly-created EC2 instance running Trusty. Is there
anything I need to do other than pass --session=gnome-flashback as the
argument to gnome-session ? Thanks for supplying this, btw.

My brain was probably on a vacation :). I've fixed this so that it uses
the SPECTRE_ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT and
SPECTRE_ORIENTATION_REVERSE_PORTRAIT.

[Bug 778543] Re: Evolution mostly (?!) fails to save sent email to IMAPs sent folder - the mail is saved in local folder instead

2014-06-11 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Thanks to the bug report I figured out what I had to do. I didn't know
that I had to change the setting in accounts to use imap folders instead
of local. This was one a few things I didn't like about Evolution but
now it's working. I don't know why the defaults are to use locla folders
when you setup an imap emaill account you obviously want to keep mail on
the server. There are severl settings that I have to remember to change
with Evolution when fresh installing but I love the program. Even better
that Thunderbird.

2014-06-11 Thread esodan
After check libgphoto2-6 installed package and
/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libgphoto2-6.rules file it contains:

ACTION!="add", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"
SUBSYSTEM!="usb", GOTO="libgphoto2_usb_end"
ENV{ID_USB_INTERFACES}=="", IMPORT{builtin}="usb_id"
ACTION="add", ENV{ID_USB_INTERFACES}=="*:060101:*", ENV{ID_GPHOTO2}="1",
ENV{GPHOTO2_DRIVER}="PTP", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev"

LABEL="libgphoto2_rules_end"

This is a little different forme #44, by adding 'ACTION="add", ' before
last ENV{ID_USB_INTERFACES} rule.

Thanks for your report. Your udev dump shows that the new rule from the

is *known broken*, you need to install 2.5.3.1-1ubuntu2.1 from trusty-
proposed. Can you please re-try with that one?

[Bug 408903]

2014-06-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Current kernels have KEY_MICMUTE==248, i. e. X.org should be perfectly
able to recognize this. Apparently this was done in 2011 already.

Can we update xkeyboard-config to also recognize KEY_MICMUTE in addition
to F20, so that it works with both kinds of udev/kernel keymaps for a
while? After that version has been out in the wild for some time, we can
mass-convert the udev keymaps to produce the proper KEY_MICMUTE instead
of KEY_F20.

I'm not certain that's enough for X.org to be able to handle it. Any
changes to this should go in another bug anyway.

So nothing to change until we're all using Wayland.

248 is the first linux kernel value which X cannot handle.

The mapping is +8, so 248 ⟹ 256, which does not fix in 8 bits.

(The first 8 are reserved – from way back – for the modifiers.)
