[Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-flashback (metacity) fails to start without hardware acceleration, cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)
Hi all, I've reworked my solution and now, I guess, at least parts of it are ready to be merged as SRU. Summary: * gnome-{session,desktop} - No backports this time, only bug fixing patches. * metacity - Backport fresh gtk3 port with composting support and no artifacts. * gnome-panel - Backport new upstream snapshot and follow upstream guidelines in Ubuntu packaging. For example provide only gnome-flashback. * indicator-appmenu - Fix missing appmenu support for non-LightDM started sessions. * ubuntu-themes - Add support of XFWM4 (in case some one still would prefer it over new fixed Metacity). * gnome-window-applets - New package to mimic Unity style window controls on panel. * cardapio - New package for main menu replacement with search capabilities (similar to Whisker from Xubuntu). * gnome-flashback-desktop - New meta package for unity like environment (installs all of the above). Packages: https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=gnome&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=trusty https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=meta&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=trusty Notes: * If you still want to use official gnome-panel packages you might want to comment out gnome-fallback in /etc/upstart-xsessions. * Solution works mainly due addition of 0105_gsm-presence-check-also-monitor.patch (will be reported upstream) and 0104_cmdline_option_disable-acceleration-check.patch (thanks to albertsmuktupavels). * I am still looking for a solution for missing NetworkManager applet and inability to mount media. Seems like polkit settings are to blame for that. Many permissions are defined only for active users, while "virtual" sessions' users registered as non-active. It would be nice if someone could provide a solution. * I've tested above changes only with x2go and natively. * If you installed previously backported packages from my PPA, you will need to downgrade them manually or "re-install" my PPA using ppa-purge and add-apt-repository. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251281 Title: gnome-flashback (metacity) fails to start without hardware acceleration, cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1332183] Re: Installing gnome-session-flashback in Ubuntu GNOME Trusty provides a Flashback (Compiz) session when compiz is not installed
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Ubuntu GNOME users may install 'gnome-session-flashback' and unwittingly log into a GNOME Flashback (Compiz) session even though 'compiz' is not installed. If auto-login has not been selected the session can be changed after a hard reboot, but if auto-login has been selected it can be quite perplexing to get back to the login screen since no window manager is running and Ubuntu GNOME has no key sequence set out-of-box for killing X. + + [Test Case] + Install Ubuntu GNOME Trusty selecting to automatically login during installation, apply all updates and reboot when prompted. Do not edit any key sequences. Upon reboot install only 'gnome-session-flashback', logout, then select GNOME Flashback (Compiz) and log back in. You'll find that you've logged into a session with only a blank background because no window manager is running. Attempts to kill X and return to the login screen such as restarting gdm will likely fail so you'll have to launch a TTY, manually edit "/etc/gdm/custom.conf" to turn auto-login off, and reboot in order to select a working session. + + [Regression Potential] + None based on testing Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu, and Edubuntu Utopic with the patched files. The Edubuntu test was performed by choosing "flashback" as the default DE during installation with the Utopic 20140623 i386 image. I also tested Ubuntu GNOME both prior to and after installing 'compiz' to be sure we broke no sessions. + + *** + Just as the title says, installing 'gnome-session-flashback' in Ubuntu GNOME provides a GNOME Flashback (Compiz) session even though 'compiz' is not installed: lance@lance-desktop:~$ ls /usr/share/xsessions gnome-classic.desktop gnome-fallback-compiz.desktop gnome.desktop gnome-fallback.desktop lance@lance-desktop:~$ apt-cache policy compiz compiz: - Installed: (none) - Candidate: 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 - Version table: - 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 0 - 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main i386 Packages - 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1 0 - 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages + Installed: (none) + Candidate: 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 + Version table: + 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 0 + 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main i386 Packages + 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1 0 + 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages This is much more than a minor inconvenience since Ubuntu GNOME has no keyboard shortcut set for killing X out-of-box so, if the user selected auto-login during installation, with no window manager running it can be quite difficult to get back to the login screen to select a different session. The easiest way I found so far is to open a TTY via Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then run "sudo nano /etc/gdm/custom.conf", change "AutomaticLoginEnable=true" to "AutomaticLoginEnable=False", then run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm", followed by "sudo reboot". Then on reboot a working session can be selected. I would hope that there is some way to NOT display a session if it's window manager is not installed. [Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
The nopahandling does not include the plugin, while the deb version does and only hasn't got the pulseaudio module unload. So it should be identical to David Henningsson's PPA version. Since the nopahandling branch did not work for zig59, I'm going for this minimalistic approach. Although I'm not sure how pulseaudio could work with other tools like gnome-bluetooth then, since they do not employ any specific pulseaudio handling at all... The syslog messages are probably a result of blueman competing with the discovery module for the initialization of the devices. I'm not sure if the source redirection (that's the rest the applet plugin is responsible for) will even work if blueman cannot load the device module itself. Looking at the source I do not think so, but then it should not make a difference to just remove the module-bluetooth-discover unload or remove the whole PulseAudio applet plugin... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283003 Title: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/blueman/+bug/1283003/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
@cschramm The package from your PPA (version 1.23-git201406261335-deb-1) works for me (on XFCE, no gnome-bluetooth installed). Pairing with speakers is possible and i'm able to select them in pavucontrol and play back audio. I have to do this manually, so the PulseAudio manager plugin doesn't seem to work, yet (I have "Move streams" and "Make default sink" enabled). Upon connect I get the following error in syslog: Jun 26 15:21:33 laptop pulseaudio[1364]: [pulseaudio] module-bluetooth-device.c: Failed to acquire transport /org/bluez/753/hci0/dev_00_0D_18_A0_16_50/fd2 and upon disconnect: Jun 26 15:23:45 laptop pulseaudio[1364]: [bluetooth] bluetooth-util.c: Failed to release transport /org/bluez/753/hci0/dev_00_0D_18_A0_16_50/fd2: Method "Release" with signature "s" on interface "org.bluez.MediaTransport" doesn't exist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283003 Title: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/blueman/+bug/1283003/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1314904] Re: Remote publishing does not work in Unity/GNOME/XFCE on trusty/utopic
Hi to everybody, I've tried what Chris suggested and actually the ubuntu-online-account appeared to me (so the bug is partially solved), the problem is I still cannot add PiCasa web publishing account in that dialogue window! I've already set my google account in the online accounts and it's perfectly working for the calendar and empathy IM, but when I try to set in the ubuntu-online-account dialogue, by clicking on the menu "show accounts related with--> Shotwell" I got the message "there are no available account provider related with this application" (I'm attaching a screenshot, sorry it's in Italian). [Bug 1228765] Re: [FFe] Implement DisplayConfig dbus interface and transition to gnome-desktop 3.10
Alright, I just tried the displayconfig daemon out with u-s-d/u-c-c built from the branches attached here, and gnome-desktop 3.12 from gnome3-staging, as we think it's the best architecture for us, short of Unity implementing the interface itself. There were a few problems - Nothing activated the daemon meaning that I had the default resolution and no cursor until I entered g-c-c's display panel (both in the greeter and session) - After it activated, the monitors were the wrong way around (left-right swapped) - No confirmation dialog of changes - Got a crash from g-c-c in libgnome-desktop (bt & Core attached, can supply {d,}debs if you want). Don't know when this happened (possibly related to D-Bus activation) ** Attachment added: "gdb.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1228765/+attachment/4139585/+files/gdb.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1228765 Title: [FFe] Implement DisplayConfig dbus interface and transition to gnome- desktop 3.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1228765/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
Hi cschramm, Have installed your ppa version of Blueman and it is not working for me. The manager allows me to find, pair and connect to my headphones but there is no entry in Sound Settings (there was before) to allow me to route to the headphones. In addition I now have 2 bluetooth icons on the top activity bar (Unity desktop) showing different option. 1 is the standard bluetooth options, the other is new and contains options to sned and browse files to the device, local services, plugins, etc. The following code is from var/log/syslog, I'm not exactly sure what, if anything is relevent.
