[Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled

2014-10-15 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
You can try without creating user. Use guest account to login. It is
important as we need understand if your problem is caused by your
customizations/settings.

There is no need for save button. If you changed type to none is dconf-
editor then settings sshould be saved automatically. You wrote that you
have more then 4 panels. Did you changed that setting for all panels?

Have you tried to login in session after changing background to none?

When you try to launch gnome-panel do this:
1) Open gnome-terminal (/usr/bin/gnome-terminal) not gnome-panel
2) Then type in this command:
gnome-panel --replace

You may need to do it multiple times as --replace command does not work
like it should. Running gnome-panel from terminal will allow you to see
error/warning messages.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script

2014-10-15 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hi Gunnar,

It would make the file not being loaded in case of a syntax error, and
an entry printed to ~/.xsession-errors.

I don't know if it's better to ignore this file in case of syntax errors
or to refuse to start a new session but for me, the most interesting
thing is to notify the user what's wrong. That can be made by adding a
line in the ~/.xsession-errors file but I think it's better to display a
new dialogue which explains the error.

Because if you just ignore this file and print an error in ~/.xsession-errors,
I'm not sure that the user will see that there is a problem with his/her
~/.profile file.
Personally I don't often read this file :-)

[Bug 1381484] [NEW] Fails to connect to irc.slack.com with an SSL error

2014-10-15 Thread Marius Gedminas
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

slack.com is a chat service with optional IRC integration. Since today
I can no longer connect to their IRC gateway using XChat-GNOME. The
error is:

 * Nepavyko prisijungti. Klaida: (336130315) error:1408F10B:SSL
 routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number
Ar tai tikrai SSL šifravimą palaikantis serveris ir prievadas?

which, translated from lt_LT, means

 * Cannot connect.  Error: (336130315) error:1408F10B:SSL
 routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number
Does the server/port really support SSL?

I think this is part of the fallout of CVE-2014-3566 (aka POODLE).
XChat-GNOME is trying to use the insecure SSL protocol version 3, and
Slack, reasonably enough, rejects that.

[Bug 1369472] Re: camera-app often hangs for 15 to 30 seconds on start

2014-10-15 Thread Thomas Voß
After further investigations, I'm pretty sure that we see a race for
graphics buffers here, which ultimately makes the entire UI stuck and
prevents the location-service to issue a trust prompt (as it requires U8
for that). I'm happy to reopen, but the entire UI hanging at times
points to a way deeper issue. Marking incomplete.

[Bug 1381624] [NEW] gvfs timeout (trusty)

2014-10-15 Thread ubuntu-tester
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have an issue with gvfs-mount on Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty).

Summary :
When I mount a Windows share (CIFS) via gvfs-mount, and I don't access to it
while about 30 minutes, then when I try to access to it via Nautilus or a
terminal (ls command for example), I have to wait about 20 seconds to display
the directory contents.

Below, how to reproduce the problem :
1. Mount a Windows share (CIFS) via gvfs-mount command : 'gvfs-mount
smb://ubuntu-tester@winsrv/d$'
2. Check the share is mounted in
'/run/user/999/gvfs/smb-share:server=winsrv,share=d$,user=ubuntu-tester'
3. Wait about 30 minutes without accessing to this share
4. Access to this share via 'ls' command for example : 'ls
/run/user/999/gvfs/smb-share:server=winsrv,share=d$,user=ubuntu-tester/Temp/test'
= I have to wait about 20 seconds to display 'ls' output like if the share is
umounted after x minutes without accessing to it and gvfs-mount mounts it when
I try to access to it.

If I run 'strace ls
/run/user/999/gvfs/smb-share:server=winsrv,share=d$,user=ubuntu-tester/Temp/test',

I have to wait at :
stat(/run/user/999/gvfs/smb-share:server=winsrv,share=d$,user=ubuntu-tester/Temp/test,
of the line :
stat(/run/user/999/gvfs/smb-share:server=winsrv,share=d$,user=ubuntu-tester/Temp/test,
 {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=0, ...}) = 0

I found this issue on my computer at work (specific configuration) and on my
computer at home (standard configuration).
Tested with Windows XP / 7 / 2003 Server Shares.

I don't have this issue on Ubuntu 12.04.

If you need complementary information, don't hesitate to ask me.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1032680] Re: Send To function replaces spaces in file name with 0s and consequently cannot find the file when attempting to email it

2014-10-15 Thread Bryan Quigley
** Description changed:

  Evince 3.4 on Ubuntu 12.04

When I try to email a PDF with spaces in the file name, Evince tells me that
the file does not exist and so could not be attached.

- Steps to reproduce:
+ [Impact]
+
+ * For certain named PDFs Evince won't you email them. It's easy to
workaround, but why should users have to when they have an email option in
evince.
+ * The diff is the upstream fix that is in all future versions of Ubuntu.
+
+ [Test Case]

  1) Open the PDF file with spaces in the file name, e.g. GNOME Rules.pdf,
with
  Evince.

  2) In Evince, click the File menu. On the file menu click Send To... item. The
  Send To dialog appears.

  3) On the Send To dialog, in the Destination section, Email will be selected
in
the Send as: dropdown list. In the Send to: textbox, enter a valid email
  address.

  4) On the Send To dialog, click the Send button.

+
+
  Actual results:
The File Attach error message will appear, stating that the PDF file you were
trying to send does not exist and so could not be attached.

In the File Attach dialog you will notice that spaces in the file name have
been replaced by 0s. This is the reason why the program cannot find the file.

  Expected results:
A new email message composing window from the default email client should
appear, with the email address entered in to Send To dialog appearing in the
To
field, and with the PDF document attached.

+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * We could somehow make the Send to functionality worse.
+
+
  Upstream bug report:
I also filed the bug on GNOME's bugzilla. The bug report number is 681144.

[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script

2014-10-15 Thread Alec Warner
I think we would also prefer a dialog, but I will take errors in
~/.xsession-errors over nothing. We can instruct our support staff to
look there for these errors; right now there are no errors anywhere and
so it is difficult to debug the root cause of the problem.

[Bug 678421] Re: Error message for a faulty ~/.profile script

2014-10-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
And I who thought it was so elegant to fix this bug with a few
characters of code. ;)

I suppose we could do a solution with zenity/kdialog, but before
spending time on such a proposal (involving gettext etc.), I would like
to know for sure that sh -n is an acceptable testing method. (Please
note that other ideas were rejected previously in this bug report.)

@Alec: I think Matthieu meant that if we ignore an erroneous file and
let the session start, the user may not be aware that there is an error,
and hence has no reason to go reading .xsession-errors. I think he has a
point.

Re: [Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled

2014-10-15 Thread Peter-and-Crazybear
On 15/10/14 09:08, Alberts Muktupāvels wrote:
You can try without creating user. Use guest account to login. It is

 customizations/settings.

Sadly, there is no guest account and I see upon looking that changing
that is not very simple. Yes, I found the way to save the changes, but
I'm doing it in under my login - and while the panels change to black
[there were blue and partly transparent], the fix works ONLY for ONE
next session - then I get the desktop with no panels and no terminal via
keyboard I'll try the launching of gnome-panel if it will do
something when logged in as me.

[Bug 1381804] [NEW] whoopsie test failure since glib2.0 2.41.2-1 uploaded

2014-10-15 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

The whoopsie test callback-triggered-once started to fail, on every
architecture except amd64, after whoopsie version 0.2.37 was uploaded to
utopic on 2014-08-29. That upload contains no changes to test_monitor
or monitor.

We can see the test failure here:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/183527214/buildlog_ubuntu-
utopic-i386.whoopsie_0.2.37_UPLOADING.txt.gz

Previously the test passed: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/181010654
/buildlog_ubuntu-utopic-i386.whoopsie_0.2.36_UPLOADING.txt.gz

Looking at the utopic-changes mailing list it looks like glib2.0 was
uploaded between 2014-07-29 (0.2.36 upload) and 2014-08-29 (0.2.37
upload). Running the tests from whoopsie version 0.2.37 in a trusty
chroot I've discovered that callback-triggered-once does pass.

2014-10-15 Thread Luis Alvarado
Horrible problem in 14.04 and 14.10. It is very slow with folders that
contain 500+ files (png, jpg, mp4, mkv). I tested for example a folder
with 1000 files. The files were 400 png, 400 jpg, 100 mkv and 100 mp4.
It was amazingly slow. Took more than 10 seconds to start showing the
previews and then another 60 to 70 seconds to show all. Super slow. The
ironic thing is, I have an Intel i7 4700, 32 GB of RAM and the hdd where
they are is a Samsung SSD 840PRO. So there was actually no excuse for so
slow performance. I can not imagine something with a normal system.

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2014-10-15 Thread Giyomunice
Hi, This bug also affects me on ubuntu 14.04, whether I am on USB debugging
mode or not on my Xperia M2.
The phone detects the PC connection and tells me it is connected in MTP mode.
However nothing happens on the computer. When I try mtp-detect :
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6

Listing raw device(s)
   No raw devices found.

I don’t understand why it does not even see the device…

[Bug 505278] Re: ssh-add -D deleting all identities does not work. Also, why are all identities auto-added?

2014-10-15 Thread kayandus
This isn't a bug, it's a feature. Read the gnome-keyring website
carefully, https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeKeyring/Ssh

[quote]
This assumes some familiarity with the ssh-add command. See its man page for
more info.
You can use ssh-add to manually add keys for use in the SSH agent. These
will be in addition to the automatically loaded keys.
The ssh-add -D will remove any keys you've added manually.
The ssh-add -D will lock any automatically loaded keys.
ssh-add -l and ssh-add -L will always list automatically loaded keys.
[/quote]

This is exactly what happens in 14.04; automatically loaded keys get
locked, manually added keys get removed from the agent.

Automatically loaded keys are:
[quote]
The SSH agent automatically loads files in ~/.ssh which have corresponding
*.pub paired files. Additional SSH keys can be manually loaded and managed via
the ssh-add command.
[/quote]

On a side note, it seems 14.04 also starts the openssh 'ssh-agent'
automatically, so effectively running two agents by default (is this
intentional?). Ssh-agent stores its socket in /tmp. Try something like:

SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-ABCDEF123456/agent.12345 ssh-add

[Bug 1377939] Re: Scope using location cause a dialog An unconfined application wants to access your current location

2014-10-15 Thread Leo Arias
Tested on krillin image #109 14.09-proposed. It also affects the music scope,
that is one of the first things new users will find.
This should be high or critical because it affects the first boot experience.

** Also affects: unity-scope-onlinemusic
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

[Bug 1381804] Re: whoopsie test failure since glib2.0 2.41.2-1 uploaded

2014-10-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Seb, can I ask that you (or someone on desktop) look at this, please?
The whoopsie tests clearly need to be made autopkgtests, so that they're
run at the right moment for catching glib2.0 regressions, but as that
didn't happen, it's rather urgent now to figure out the cause of this
problem.

[Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

2014-10-15 Thread Yanpas
I advise switching onto Nemo fm (fork of nautilus). It is more powerful,
faster, nicer and supports gtk theme. If anybody want to do it I will
post guide. As me I switched onto Xubuntu with Thunar, coz ubuntu full
of such bugs
