[Bug 769700] Re: find command does not find anything

2014-12-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
The encoding of the PDF is jacked, as one cannot find highlightable
characters via Evince or Adobe Reader. As well, copying from Reader
causes an internal error. Copying and pasting from Evince shows garbage.

[Bug 1400393] Re: wrong keyboard layout

2014-12-16 Thread Martin Pitt
Indeed we seem to have some Ubuntu delta in console-setup. The upstart
job calls loadkeys while the init.d script calls setupcon. I discussed
this with Didier yesterday: as long as Debian needs to work with
multiple init systems (and we as well during the transition period), and
systemd-vgconsole hasn't been vetted yet, we think that it is safest and
cleanest for now to add a corresponding systemd unit to keyboard-
configuration, and/or fix the init.d script.

[Bug 1402039] Re: systemd spams kernel log with debug kernel cmdline option

2014-12-16 Thread Martin Pitt
This was discussed upstream a while ago:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-
devel/2014-April/018378.html

A simple "debug" indeed enables debugging for everything. If you want
only systemd debugging, use systemd.log_level=debug, if you want only
kernel debugging, use "loglevel=debug". See also "man kernel-command-
line" or "man systemd".

I really don't want to deviate from upstream for this and break existing
documentation.

[Bug 1399476] Re: 0.2.0: DAVS: need to click on breadcrumb bar to show directory content

2014-12-16 Thread Nicolas Laplante
I think this bug is related to gvfsd. In the terminal, I tried to go to
the mount place for the owncloud share /run/user/... ... ... and issued
a ls command. It hung, I hit some key and it listed the directory
content. So, I don't think this is related to pantheon-files. I see
there have been updates to gvfsd in newer Ubuntu releases but those
weren't backported to Trusty so I don't know if this has been fixed.

It connects, but the loading animated image stays there forever. If I
click in the remote directory name in the location breadcrumb, then the

to re-click on its name in the breadcrumb bar to show its content.

[Bug 495784] Re: assertion failed: (width_r >= 0 && height_r >= 0)

2014-12-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
nikman, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However,
your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport
report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 116453]

2014-12-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jason Crain, thank you for your response.

I appreciate keeping a lean code base to ease maintenance. However, I'm
a strong proponent of functionality compatibility expectations, to ease
the transition for folks from an alternative operating system, and/or
PDF viewer.

Hence, in this select case, allowing for feature compatibility
expectations with Reader/Chrome makes sense here.

[Bug 116453]

2014-12-16 Thread 13l0yp6vizh-re9ot-k4cybxwf60f
If you look at the copy and paste from adobe reader and chrome, the word
'Über' is not actually in that document. The diaresis is separate from
the 'U'. We could make search looser by stripping out combining
characters. Looks like that's what adobe reader and chrome do. Is that
the kind of thing that people would want? Being able to find 'uber' by
searching for 'über' or 'ubér' or 'ũb̏ȇ̱r̽'?

That might make some people upset. We already have bug # 85702
requesting to make search stricter. Though personally I think a looser
search makes sense.

2014-12-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
OC, et. al, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been
fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Vivid Vervet.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the
SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

[Bug 784228] [NEW] evince fails to print PS file to PDF file

2014-12-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: evince

Askubuntu user sdaau reports the following [1]:

"This is my problem:

Open a document in Evince, choose Print
Choose "Printer": "Print to file"
Choose "Output Format": "PDF"
(add a filename output.pdf in the box if not there)
Click on "Print"
Experience the following message:

< Failed to print document.
< Printing is not supported on this printer.

By the way, printing to an "Output Format" .ps file works fine. "

I can reproduce this bug trying to print a PS file to PDF.
Sample file is attached, created with LibreOffice 3.3 on Natty.

evince 2.32.0-0ubuntu12.1
libreoffice-calc 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4
Ubuntu 11.04 fresh install with all ~/.* user settings copied from 10.10
installation.

Absolutely agree. Shotwell becomes virtually unusable if it insists on
cataloguing raw files.

I have to move them out of the directory, run Shotwell, and then move
them back. Highly inconvenient.

Please include a simple feature for ticking the files you want Shotwell

[Bug 1382843] Re: uoa publishing on flickr, corrupted double-linked list error

2014-12-16 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Mike, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libsignon-glib into trusty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsignon-
glib/1.10daily13.06.25-0ubuntu3 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

rsyslog's postinst seems fine. I have a gut feeling that this is due to

[Bug 1401984] Re: non persistent logging after cleaning log files on disk

2014-12-16 Thread Didier Roche
Actually, this is not a systemd behavior but seems to be a syslog one.
1. rm /var/log/syslog
2. reboot
-> no log (under systemd or upstart)
3. touch /var/log/syslog
4. chmod syslog:adm /var/log/syslog
5. reboot
-> logs availables

The cause is that /var/log is 755 and root:syslog (I wonder why it's in syslog
group as it's not 775?), and so can't recreate the file.
If I chmod syslog, indeed, /var/log/syslog is created, but with other rights,
being syslog:syslog instead of syslog:adm.

So, it worths more discussion (retargetting to syslog), pinging Martin
on this.

[Bug 1401984] [NEW] non persistent logging after cleaning log files on disk

2014-12-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using current vivid with systemd init, I've cleaned the log on disk
(*.log syslog dmesg) and rebooted my test box, since then it stopped
logging to syslog.

journalctl has the log from the current boot but not from previous ones

the behaviour there is a bit confusing, I first though that I would get
a fresh syslog on next boot and not an auto conversion to use journald,
then the journal should keep record from previous boots as well...

[Bug 1402422] Re: evolution should not be linked with -Bsymbolic-functions

2014-12-16 Thread Iain Lane
Thanks, I will upload this change to the in-development release (Vivid,
to become 15.04) now.

Could you prepare the description of bug #813308 according to the Stable
Release Update template please? I will then be able to propose the same
fix for Ubuntu's stable releases (12.04, 14.04, 14.10). That's
 point #3 under
"Procedure".

[Bug 159032] Re: form support does not work with forms created by pdflatex

2014-12-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evince

- PDF forms created using pdftex/pdflatex cannot be edited using evince.
- They work fine in acroread/acrobat.
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch)
+ Release: 15.04
+
+ 2) apt-cache policy evince
+ evince:
+ Installed: 3.14.1-0ubuntu1
+ Candidate: 3.14.1-0ubuntu1
+ Version table:
+ *** 3.14.1-0ubuntu1 0
+ 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+
+ 3) What is expected to happen is when one opens the following PDF created
using pdftex/pdflatex, the form may be edited, just like in Adobe Reader:
+
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/159032/+attachment/167511/+files/simpleform.pdf
+
+ 4) What happens instead is it is not editable.
+
+ WORKAROUND: Open it in Chrome's built-in PDF reader.
+
+ apt-cache policy google-chrome-stable:i386
+ google-chrome-stable:i386:
+ Installed: 39.0.2171.95-1
+ Candidate: 39.0.2171.95-1
+ Version table:
+ *** 39.0.2171.95-1 0
+ 500 http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable/main i386 Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

[Bug 965921] Re: gnome-shell most keyboard shortcuts not working

2014-12-16 Thread Timothy
This works for me: before you login open a tty and do "gnome-settings-
daemon --replace" if you exit tty and login the shortcuts should work.

It's not a good solution but it works for now.
