[Bug 842741] Re: multi-page TIF crashes on print, or print preview

2014-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
James Van Damme, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

Utopic works fine with my Logitech K760.

2014-12-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Considering again, I'd rather provide the dependency in systemd itself
as a shim until we enable systemd-vgconsole properly (if ever). This
will at least not break dependencies of third-party packages.

2) libpoppler 0.28.1-1ubuntu1

3) What is expected to happen via the attached document is that one may
highlight the text that has been rotated at a 45 degree angle, one row at a
time, just like Adobe Reader 10.x:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/245620/+attachment/314937/+files/m1.pdf

[Bug 1398025] Re: Errors messages like error: /dev/sdb: No medium found on booting

2014-12-17 Thread Martin Pitt
That's odd, now the error messages are gone entirely, even though the
only change is to add set -x to the resume premount script to show
debug output. I have a gut feeling that the update-initramfs -u (which
rebuilds the initramfs) somehow fixed this. Unfortunately we now lost
the evidence what was wrong in the first place :-(

Anyway, the script shows nothing out of the ordinary. Can you remove the
-x from the file again, with

  sudo sed -i '1 s/ -x$//'
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/resume
  sudo update-initramfs -u

Just to double-check, is the error message coming back now?

[Bug 1348384] Re: evince and okular do not render eps files correctly resulting in a black background

2014-12-17 Thread Robie Basak
I've just spoken with Till about this on IRC.

It seems to me that there are two patches involved here. Patch 1 (fix-
document-rotation) fixed bug 1242678, but caused a regression (tracked
by this bug: bug 1348384). Marek has kindly provided patch 2 (erase-
page) that fixes this.

But patch 1 was reverted upstream, and we don't know what the current
status of this is. So patch 1 has inadvertently caused Ubuntu to diverge
from upstream, and this is what is causing the current pain.

I think that taking patch 2 is going to exacerbate the problem. Then
we'll be even further diverged from upstream, and this will make future
merges harder, which sets Ubuntu up to end up with an old version for
fear of regression.

So to avoid making the situation worse, can someone please resolve the
situation of these two bugs upstream before pushing this patch into
Ubuntu? What has upstream done about bug 1242678? Would it be better to
revert patch 1 from Ubuntu, and take what upstream has done to fix it
instead, thus avoiding this regression altogether and bring us closer to
upstream?

Finally, when preparing debdiffs, please use dep3 headers
(http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/) to make it easier to follow upstream
status on these patches.

Thanks.

[Bug 1403583] [NEW] notify-osd does not work with Metacity

2014-12-17 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 15.04 vivid, notifications (via notify-osd) do not work in
GNOME Flashback (Metacity) session, but do work in GNOME Flashback
(Compiz) session.

I believe it is a regression in recent Metacity versions, though cannot
get it working even with older Metacity (3.12).

[Bug 492959] Re: Evince cannot save filled PDF forms

2014-12-17 Thread Hans Deragon
I confirm that eform-0410-1.pdf is now working with evince 3.10.3,
available with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Thar. You cannot save the file
under the same name, but you can save it under a different name (that is
another bug).

[Bug 1236619] Re: gvfs smb / cifs file copy performance is terribly slow

2014-12-17 Thread JensK
I can confirm this issue but with at twist.
If i manually make a commandline mount of a cifs share and use Nautilus for
copying transfer speed is ok
If i mount from within Nautilus through Browse network and use Nautilus for
copying transfer speed is terrible slow
I use Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.1

JensK, assuming that your manual command line mount uses mount.cifs,
that is not a twist. It's the same thing that the rest of us are seeing
when we don't use gvfs.

[Bug 846873] Re: Evince: Invisible text in PDF file

2014-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- Certain format produces transparent text when viewing PDF on the screen.
- The text remains invisible even if formatted. The only way to get to see
- that text is to copy-paste it blindly into the text editor or the
- terminal. To reproduce, see for instance an O'Relly Book Running Linux
- 4th Edition which is available for download free of charge and is
- attached to this bug report for your convenience.
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch)
+ Release: 15.04

- Scroll down to any page containing commands to be entered into the
- terminal on the command line. Any text after the command prompt is
- invisible. For instance, at the bottom of page 58 the fdisk command
- does not appear after the # (root prompt) on the command line.
- swaponcommand cannot be seen at the bottom of page 62 and so forth.
+ 2) apt-cache policy evince

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/846873/+attachment/2384873/+files/ORelly-Running%20Linux%204th%20Edition.pdf
is when one goes to page 58 of the book, at the bottom it shows the entire
command, as it does in Adobe Reader:

[Bug 875359] Re: evince locks up when zooming in or out

2014-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Colin D Bennett, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 916152] Re: Segmentation Fault

2014-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alex Rampp, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Oneiric reached EOL on May 9, 2013.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

Is this an issue on a supported release? If so, please follow these

[Bug 974033] Re: when start evince but in a few minutes it was closed automatically

2014-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
nayana priyankara, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

Marin Bareta, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been

demonstrates this problem?

As well, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1102357

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1403717] [NEW] Evince puts up spurious error window when .pdf extension is missing

2014-12-17 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I first noticed this when trying to display a .pdf file that was downloaded
from the New York State of Health website.
Their notices have filenames like Template030, and have no extension.

When i couldn't use Evince, I used LibreOffice Writer to display them
successfully (actually, what came up was LibreOffice Draw, for some
reason).

I since took a look at the error window message, and saw that it said
Error opening file: Permission denied

I used Sakura terminal, and the Nemo Properties context menu option to
compare the permissions between one of these files, and a file that
Evince had no trouble displaying, and found NO DIFFERENCE.

I took another look at the files, and suddenly noted that the file I was trying
to display had no extension.
Surely, it could not be that simple...
Renamed the file with the same name + .pdf
Displayed fine.
Renamed a file that HAD displayed fine to remove .pdf
Error window.

Perhaps some part of the standard for .pdf files is that they MUST have
.pdf extensions. I do not know.

Either way, putting up an error window that says Permission denied is
unhelpful.
Perhaps a WARNING window with: Required file extension .pdf missing.

Can it be that the extension is the only way Evince can tell that it is a .pdf
file? I don't think so...
LibreOffice had no problem with it.
I had no problem also with GIMP.
Chromium displayed it correctly when I brought it up with file://[filename]

[Bug 1403717] Re: Evince puts up spurious error window when .pdf extension is missing

2014-12-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Evince is providing the best error message it can with the information
available to it. The AppArmor mandatory access control system has
rejected this because the filename doesn't match something expected for
evince to open.

You can modify the file /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince to include
whatever files you want to allow. I suggest something like:

owner @{HOME}/Downloads/** r,

assuming, of course, that your browser has downloaded the file to your
Downloads/ directory.

Once you have modified the file to include permissions you want to
allow, you can run:

sudo apparmor_parser --replace /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

Thanks

2014-12-17 Thread Matthias Andree
Christopher, support, trust, reputation do not work this way.

Ubuntu neglect the bug for three years (!) as usual - which is a massive
issue in itself - and then close the bug as invalid because the affected
distro went EOL, with five releases being made since the report without
someone seriously looking on the bug.

I still have the document, and I suggest to test on 12.04 LTS instead of
14.

I'm not uploading stuff that reveals some personal information to just
everyone.
I can provide it to anyone who makes plausible he is looking into the issue;
however it appeared to me the cause is cancelling a print-in-progress that
seems to be triggering a race condition, rather than the document itself. It
renders properly.
