[Bug 1322925] Re: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus
I have got the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit (with all available updates), but I'm using the file manager Nemo (version: 1.8.4). Closing all file manager windows and reopen them temporarily fixes the problem. However this is very annoying if you have got a lot of windows/tabs open... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322925 Title: Copy, paste stops working randomly in Ubuntu 14.04 nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1322925/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1406085] [NEW] Overview mode - add option for the name windows to make it always visible
Public bug reported: Can I make a overview mode, the name of each window, for example in Nautilus, would always show, not only for the transition to the desired window. The rest is left as it is - when you go to the window title is slightly increased, and it is highlighted, perhaps it is necessary to consider the allocation of the selected window, for example, to increase its illumination. So it would be easier to navigate not only the image, which can be nearly identical in several windows, but also in parallel by location / name of application windows. I think the idea increases the convenience and comfort of using the system ... the details of the implementation can certainly think. P.S. [Bug 95854] Re: Folder is overwritten with a file with the same name
Nope. I just now did it again in nautilus/trusty (1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.4). Even after nautilus --quit and rm -rf ~/.config/nautilus in case it was my old config. Steps to reproduce: 1) create your crash test dummies: $mkdir /tmp/test_real ; mkdir /tmp/test_real/foo ; mkdir /tmp/test_link ; ln -sT /tmp/test_real/foo /tmp/test_link/foo 2) open /tmp/test_real and /tmp/test_link in two tabs 3) copy- or move- drag foo from /tmp/test_link/ into /tmp/test_real/ 4) nautilus will ask non-indicative question (see above) 5) observe symlink foo (pointing at itself and marked as bad, of course) where the original foo once was. The same happens while merging a nested directory (try with /foo/bar if you have doubts) - and then the user have absolutely no hints about what's going on, and data loss will happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95854 Title: Folder is overwritten with a file with the same name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/95854/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 95854] Re: Folder is overwritten with a file with the same name
The difference with a text file is that it shows with a proper icon rather than the same folder icon, and nautilus specifically asks to overwrite rather than merge. [Bug 1270579] Re: Ubuntu should have an upstart job for saving/restoring backlight level on laptops
Dear all! According to the list of duplicates and bug heat this bug/feature request is very important. As you know laptop market share is gigantic (see for example http://www.statista.com/statistics/276772/ultrabook-share-of-global-notebook-market-since-2011/ for stats). Also Ubuntu and Debian market share are increasing. So I can't believe why this usability fault exists in Ubuntu (and Debian) for years. It seems that guys from `systemd` understand the problem correctly (sooner or later - on 14 Aug 2013, see https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commits/56f64d95763a799ba4475daf44d8e9f72a1bd474/src/backlight/backlight.c ), but `upstart` and `sysvinit` developers not. As you can remember I tried to fix the problem by myself - I created first version of an init script for saving and restoring backlight level (on 10 Dec 2012 - two years ago). It had one disadvantage - it operates only when laptop has one graphical adaptor and its name was hardcoded to the script (*acpi_video0* in my case). So today I present new version of a script - it can save and restore backlight levels of all graphical, adaptors, which are found in `/sys/class/backlight/*`. The init script with symlink are packed to archive (see attachment). If you have installed its previous version (see comment #15) - you can remove its files with commands: sudo rm /etc/rc?.d/?25backlight /etc/init.d/brightness then extract new version with commands: sudo tar -zxvf upstart_brightness.tar.gz -C / I hope my script will help somebody. Thanks for testing! ** Attachment added: new version of backlight saving/restoring script https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/+bug/1270579/+attachment/4288756/+files/upstart_brightness.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (403075). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1270579 Title: Ubuntu should have an upstart job for saving/restoring backlight level on laptops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1270579/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1153488] Re: Treats bluetooth input device batteries as batteries
I don't know if Shih-Yuan Lee (fourdollars) his patch is used but there is clearly a bug in the code!! If you get to see at the following lines: if (g_ascii_strcasecmp (device_type, mains) == 0) { type = UP_DEVICE_KIND_LINE_POWER; } else if (g_ascii_strcasecmp (device_type, battery) == 0) { type = UP_DEVICE_KIND_BATTERY; /* Detect if the battery comes from bluetooth keyboard or mouse. */ if (g_strstr_len (native_path, -1, bluetooth) != NULL) { The code should be changed so it should also look for a bluetooth mouse when type = UP_DEVICE_KIND_LINE_POWER; So when you use a desktop pc without battery but with a bluetooth mouse so it shows the correct icon. [Bug 95854] Re: Folder is overwritten with a file with the same name
Which is the trouble with this bug: it's actually several otherwise very minor shortcomings that add up to a nasty result. Apples-to-apples check did fix one problem, but it's circumvented via another. The second big deal, of course, is that usually symlinks are treated as their targets, but using this approach in ALL contexts indiscrimiately is bad. But. The dialog itself is flawed: it's important enough to show more than a tab does, and it shows less. Icons are good, but why the usual overlaid emblems are NOT applied in confirmation dialog? Then symlink would be at least clearly marked as such. Then, there's Size:(null) for directories. Sure, looking inside slows down the huge list - but in the dialog there's only one item and for merging/overwriting purpose it's kind of important what's inside it, so perhaps settings different from the file list (and more verbose by default, at least on X files + Y directories level, though seeing the size of at least of immediately contained files would help too) would improve the situation. Speaking of dialog, overwriting a directory with file is already unusual enough that perhaps this should be a separate category for apply to all purpose - just to be on the safe side. Merging a newer directory into old may call for overwrite of old files, but this shouldn't easily lead to something so strange and drastic.

[Bug 1386120] Re: evince and evince-thumbnailer stuck with high cpu load
I have created a minimal example which reproduces the problem on my machine. It seems that this has nothing to do with eps images itself. The example does not contain any images. [Bug 1276659] [NEW] suspending on shutdown when lid is closed
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Description of the problem: When power-settings are set to do nothing when lid is closed, my computer most of the times suspends on shutdown, only shutdown. When lid is opened the shutdown is continued. Result 9 cases out of 10: 1. Setting options to do nothing (not suspending) on closing lid on my laptop. 2. Open terminal and type sudo shutdown -P 5 min 3. Close Lid. 4. Wait for shutdown. 5. Wait for suspend. 6. Open the lid. (You will find the computer in suspended mode. It always displays its final logo before shutdown when opened. So actually the shutdown is triggered and in progress, but is then interrupted by a suspend instruction.) 7. The computer continues to shutdown, when lid is opened. Expected result: 1. Setting options to do nothing (not suspending) on closing lid on my laptop. 2. Open terminal and type sudo shutdown -P 5 min 3. Close Lid. 4. Wait for shutdown. 5. The computer is off. When I don't close the lid everything goes as expected. I actually have a backup script running when I shutdown the computer and the last thing it does is to shutdown the computer. I have run Debian with gtk 2 successfully. I have run Ubuntu successfully before Unity. Now I run UbuntuGnome. I think there is a change in option, set to the kernel during shutdown, which triggers the suspend. A page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage) suggests gnome- power-manager, pm-utils, or the kernel to be the failure. patrik@Ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- suspending on shutdown when lid is closed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1276659 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
