[Bug 1415029] [NEW] Not yet available but configured providers should be added as soon as they become available
Public bug reported: Right now, the location service tries to instantiate configured providers at startup. In specific corner cases, some of the configured sensors might not be available and the service should be able to be notified when those providers become available. In particular, this affects the wizard running on first boot, and subsequent login to the user session. ** Affects: location-service (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Assignee: Thomas Voß (thomas-voss) Status: In Progress ** Description changed: Right now, the location service tries to instantiate configured providers at startup. [Bug 1414544] Re: Booting stuck at network bringup with bond interfaces
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 218-6ubuntu1 --- systemd (218-6ubuntu1) vivid; urgency=medium * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes: - Hack to support system-image read-only /etc, and modify files in /etc/writable/ instead. - Keep our much simpler udev maintainer scripts (all platforms must support udev, no debconf). - initramfs init-top: Drop $ROOTDELAY, we do that in a more sensible way with wait-for-root. Will get applicable to Debian once Debian gets wait-for-root in initramfs-tools. - initramfs init-bottom: If LVM is installed, settle udev, otherwise we get missing LV symlinks. Workaround for LP #1185394. - Add debian/udev.lvm2.init: Dummy SysV init script to satisfy insserv dependencies to lvm2 which is handled with udev rules in Ubuntu. - Provide shutdown fallback for upstart. (LP: #1370329) - debian/extra/ifup@.service: Additionally run for auto class. We don't really support allow-hotplug in Ubuntu at the moment, so we need to deal with auto devices appearing after /etc/init.d/networking start already ran. (LP: #1374521) - Add Get-RTC-is-in-local-time-setting-from-etc-default-rc.patch: In Ubuntu we currently keep the setting whether the RTC is in local or UTC time in /etc/default/rcS UTC=yes|no, instead of /etc/adjtime. (LP: #1377258) - Put session scopes into all cgroup controllers. This makes unprivileged user LXC containers work under systemd. (LP: #1346734) - Lower Breaks: to plymouth version which has the udev inotify fix in Ubuntu. - Lower libappamor1 dep to the Ubuntu version where it moved to /lib. - Make failure of boot-and-services NSpawn.test_boot non-fatal for now. This currently fails when being triggered by Jenkins, but is totally unreproducible when running this manually on the exact same machine. Upgrade fixes, keep until 16.04 LTS release: - systemd Conflicts/Replaces/Provides systemd-services. - Remove obsolete systemd-logind upstart job. - Clean up obsolete /etc/udev/rules.d/README. * Make the systemd controller session scope cgroup directory owned by the user as well. This fixes user containers with latest LXC, and with systemd in the container. (LP: #1413927) * ifup@.service: Drop dependency on networking.service (i. e. /etc/init.d/networking), and merely ensure that /run/network exists. This avoids unnecessary dependencies/waiting during boot and dependency cycles if hooks wait for other interfaces to come up (like ifenslave with bonding interfaces). (LP: #1414544) systemd (218-6) experimental; urgency=medium [ Martin Pitt ] * initramfs hook: Install 61-persistant-storage-android.rules if it exists. * Generate POT file during package build, for translators. * Pull latest keymaps from upstream git. * Order ifup@.service and networking.service after network-pre.target. (Closes: #766938) * Tone down Network interface NamePolicy= disabled on kernel commandline, ignoring info message to debug, as we expect this while we disable net.ifnames by default. (Closes: #762101, LP: #1411992) [ Michael Biebl ] * Ship bash-completion for udevadm. (Closes: #776166) * Drop rc-local generator in favor of statically enabling rc-local.service, and drop halt-local.service which is unnecessary on Debian. (Closes: #776170) * Drop the obsolete libsystemd-* libraries, there are no reverse dependencies left. -- Martin Pitt martin.p...@ubuntu.com Mon, 26 Jan 2015 17:43:20 +0100 ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414544 Title: Booting stuck at network bringup with bond interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1414544/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1270579] Re: Ubuntu should have an upstart job for saving/restoring backlight level on laptops
** Description changed: - Dear all! + HOW TO REPRODUCE: + 1. Cool boot a laptop. + 2. Set a different screen brightness level. + 3. Reboot. - I have tested many distros - Arch, OpenSuSe 13.1, Fedora 20, ALT Linux p7, Sabayon, Mageia 4. - Many of them are based on systemd. - It does not matter what init system they use, but all of them have very usefull script (or binary program, I don't know) for saving and restoring backlight level on laptop. + RESULT: + Backlight is not memorized. - In these distros there is a script for save and restore backlight levels for two video-cards (acpi_video0 and acpi_video1). During system boot it is indicated as follows: - - [ OK ] Started Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of acpi_video1. - [ OK ] Started Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of acpi_video0. - . - - = - - Steps to reproduce: - 1. User boots laptop (cold boot, not wake from suspend) - 2. User sets comfortable backlight level - 3. User ends his/her work by shutting down the laptop (not suspend, so backlight level is not saved) - 4. Go to 1 (another cold boot with reseted backlight level). - - = - - According to the list of duplicates and bug heat this bug/feature - request is very important. - - As you know laptop market share is gigantic (see for example http://www.statista.com/statistics/276772/ultrabook-share-of-global-notebook-market-since-2011/ for stats). - Also Ubuntu and Debian market share are increasing. - - So I can't believe why this usability fault exists in Ubuntu (and Debian) for years. - It seems that guys from `systemd` understand the problem correctly (sooner or later - on 14 Aug 2013, see https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commits/56f64d95763a799ba4475daf44d8e9f72a1bd474/src/backlight/backlight.c ), but `upstart` and `sysvinit` developers not. - - As you can remember I tried to fix the problem by myself (see my comment on askubuntu http://askubuntu.com/questions/151651/brightness-is-reset-to-maximum-on-every-restart/227553#227553) - I created first version of an init script for saving and restoring backlight level (on 10 Dec 2012 - two years ago). - It had one disadvantage - it operates only when laptop has one graphical adaptor and its name was hardcoded to the script (*acpi_video0* in my case). - - So on 2014-12-28 I presented new version of a script - it can save and restore backlight levels of all graphical, adaptors, which are found in `/sys/class/backlight/*`. - The init script with symlink aPlease note: ire packed to archive (see attachment to comment #18 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1270579/+attachment/4288756/+files/upstart_brightness.tar.gz ). - The script is tested on Ubuntu Precise 12.04.5 and Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.1. - - If you have installed its previous version (from comment #15) - you can remove its files with commands: - sudo rm /etc/rc?.d/?25backlight /etc/init.d/brightness - then extract new version with commands: - sudo tar -zxvf upstart_brightness.tar.gz -C / - - I hope my script will help somebody. - Thanks for testing! - - To Ubuntu developers: please contact me if you are ready to include and - distribute my script to 12.04 and 14.04 deb-pakages. - - = + FIX: + Into the Terminal application, enter the following lines one by one: + - wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1270579/+attachment/4288756/+files/upstart_brightness.tar.gz + - sudo rm /etc/rc?.d/?25backlight /etc/init.d/brightness + - sudo tar -zxvf upstart_brightness.tar.gz -C / + - rm upstart_brightness.tar.gz ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: initscripts 2.88dsf-41ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-4.19-generic 3.13.0-rc8 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-4-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.13.1-0ubuntu1 Architecture: i386 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sun Jan 19 17:20:26 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-20 (91 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release i386 (20131016.1) SourcePackage: sysvinit UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2013-11-19 (61 days ago) ** Summary changed: - Ubuntu should have an upstart job for saving/restoring backlight level on laptops + On laptops, screen brightness isn't memorized between sessions ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Importance: Medium = Low ** Description changed: HOW TO REPRODUCE: - 1. This bug only affects stable releases but, because the lost of functionality it introduces isn't of high importance, it isn't a valid candidate for a stable release update. [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
Considering that some users prefer ć while others prefer ç, a reasonable solution to this bug (as already mentioned) may be to add another keyboard layout. Hence I added a xkeyboard-config task. OTOH, it looks to me that there are a few layouts already available, which permits you to type the ç character in various ways. For instance, with the English (US, international with dead keys) layout, AltGr+comma gives you ç, and AltGr+Shift+comma gives you Ç. Furthermore, if you run this command: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources show-all-sources true yet a few other layouts will be available in Text Entry. So, even if there are quite a few comments in this bug report already, have those of you, who need to type the ç character often, explored the alternatives which are already there? ** Also affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/518056/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 116453]
(In reply to Jason Crain from comment #6) I suppose if I add an option to findText, I should also add a flag (POPPLER_FIND_IGNORE_COMBINING?) to PopplerFindFlags, for the glib front end's poppler_page_find_text_with_options(). It would be nice if someone could confirm that evince would actually use this option. I don't see a reason why someone might want to search for ü and not find a word containing ü. So, if there are two methods in poppler core, I would change the glib bindings to use the one correctly finding combining characters. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to poppler in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116453 Title: evince can not find ü in attached PDF To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/poppler/+bug/116453/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Gunnar Hjalmarsson. Well, you can let two layouts. I didn't know about this: AltGr+comma +c gives ç and AltGr+comma +C gives Ç. Nice to hear that, but this is not the common behavior and absolutely no ones know about that. [Bug 1414707] Re: Login fails, returns to login and flickering prevents password typing
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected vivid ** Description changed: I was testing Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 in VirtualBox. I was able to login into the machine a few times and run updates and install a few programs. I also installed the VirtualBox guest additions. Since today this happens: I log into the machine. The login is accepted and the machine does something for a few seconds. Then the machine jumps back to login, but with a random flickering. The flickering also resets the password field, which prevents it from being typed. So I can't login into the machine anymore. I am using a HP Probook 6570 b which I upgraded to 16 GB of RAM. The iso was from the 20th of January, but I did a daily sudo apt-get upgrade on it. [Bug 1248720] Re: Bluetooth ON/OFF button switches OFF automatically
The issue can also be reproduced on my 14.04, by adding some prints in the source code I found it's cause by a logic trap: 1. we click the switch in the u-c-c bt panel to turn on the bt 2. in the widget's notify::active callback it set the BT state to unblocked 3. the BT state-changed callback is triggered with {state: unblocked, powered: off}, in this callback it will update the UI 4. in such a case step 2 is triggered again but this time it set the BT state to blocked. So after a long repetition the final status is BT is turned off again. Actually I'm wondering if it will run into an endless dead loop under special condition. Anyway in my side I could fix, or maybe only workaround, the issue with the attached patch, it will temporarily block the widget's notify::active callback in the bt killswitch callbacks, so we won't run into step 2 after step 3. ** Patch added: block-power-callback-unless-its-triggered-by-user.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1248720/+attachment/4306992/+files/block-power-callback-unless-its-triggered-by-user.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248720 Title: Bluetooth ON/OFF button switches OFF automatically To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1248720/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1415320] [NEW] gedit acts like it has some internal runaway code active while a cut-buffer is active
Public bug reported: I am a new user with Ubuntu, so there may be some misconfiguration involved that I am not aware of, nor have a clue of fixing. I would ask a support question if I could think of some way to ask it so that it doesn't sound like a bug report. I find it difficult to imagine that a mature program like gedit itself is buggy. I am using 14.10 pretty much as it came. I can view and type quite a bit without problem, but when I begin to cut and paste gedit begins to act flaky. The first symptom is an irratic cursor. It will effectively dissappear. Actually, it acts like it is too busy doing something else to paint the cursor. When I move the cursor with the mouse, I may see it occaisionally flash onto the screen. Editting may continue for a while, but the application's response gets progressively slower. Eventually the application terminates abnormally, and I loose my edit. Another symptom that occurs is my CPU fan kicks into high gear, like it is compensating for a heavy workload. When the problem occurs I can restore gedit to working order by saving the file I am editing, or by switching focus to another window and then back. I've used the browser, compiler, word processor, and terminal without incident. [Bug 1393227] Re: Second window doesn't appear in forground
The eog image viewer that comes with Ubuntu 14.04 works fine if you double-click on ONE image from a file browsers. However, if you navigate to another folder and then double-click on another image, eog doesn't gain focus like you'd expect, and it stays minimized on the Unity launcher bar. Anytime you double-click on an picture-image-file (jpg, gif, png, etc.), EOG should gain focus and its window should come to the front of the window stack. Currently if the program is already open, it doesn't handle new launchings very well. I think it should either launch multiple instance when you doube-click on a picture in a different folder, or it should focus and display the last picture you double-click on from the file-browser. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1393227 Title: Second window doesn't appear in forground To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/file-roller/+bug/1393227/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1022897] [NEW] evolution failed to convert mbox subfolder to mdir
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have a few days old installation of Linux Mint 13, MATE edition, 64 bit. Previosly I was using Ubuntu 11.04 on the machine and I had had an older version of evolution there. It looks that evolution failed to convert my emails, those stored in subfolders, from mbox to mdir storage mode. (What I call subfolder here is not really a subdirectory but only a file from the OS point of view. But in evolution if looks like a folder.) Some details: * I have always been using IMAP. * I have been using the local folder Sent and specifically its subfolders like 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 to store sent emails. (I.e. emails sent in year 2008 were stored in subfolder Sent/2008 etc.) * Before reinstalling the operating system I did the usual backup of evolution data. * After having installed the new OS (Mint 13, completely new installation with entire disk formatted), I launched evolution. It gave me information that my mbox-stored emails would be converted to mdir. * Now I see that evolution failed to convert emails stored in the subfolders. It converted only emails stored in folders. * Interestingly, the new evolution (3.2.3) did not import the concerned Defaults from the backup properly. I.e. the folder where sent emails should be copied is not set in the IMAP account settings. Anyway, the evolution does have the setting Sent/2012 somewhere stored because it tried to use it. See attachement. So, to reporoduce the problem: 1.) Have an older (mbox-type) evolution (like that in ubuntu 11.04 or older), use IMAP protocol. 2.) Create the local subfolder Sent/2012 and in the evolution settings choose that sent emails would be stored in Sent/2012. 3.) Sent a few emails. 4.) Backup the evolution data, transfer them to a machine with the new evolution (3.2.3) which has never been launched before on that machine (under your account). 5.) Start evolution 3.2.3; the initialization procedure - the wizard - pops up. 6.) Import the data from the backup file and complete the initialization. 7.) Send an email so that evolution would try to append the copy of it to the preset subfolder like Sent/2012. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution failed to convert mbox subfolder to mdir https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1415287] [NEW] Cannot access menus using the keyboard in Java swing applications with jayatana
Public bug reported: WIth jayatana installed and locally-integrated menus turned on, when I run a swing application (eg) netbeans and hold the ALT key down so that the menu is displayed across the titlebar, if I press another key (eg the F key) I expect the matching menu to drop down (eg in this case the File menu). What actually happens is nothing - the menu does not drop down. This means that in Ubuntu 15.04, I cannot select the menu at all using the keyboard - I have to use the mouse. A workaround is to uninstall jayatana (and restart the session, or you can't run any swing apps), but of course you don't get the locally- integrated-menus anymore for swing applications.
