[Bug 1435287] Re: cups-browsed crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slist_foreach()

2015-03-30 Thread Jerry Preissler
Till,

the crash happened when I booted from USB to see if Vivid works on my
machine. The USB stick has since been repurposed, but if it helps I can
try to recreate it and see if the problem can be reproduced. Which image
should I use - the one I originally had the problem with or the current
daily?

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-03-30 Thread Leandro
Hello Gunnar,

I see! No, unfortunately we also need the accute dead keys for á, é, í,
ó and ú.

The "key" (phisically speaking) must be the same. That is, 'a = á, and
'c = ç

(We also have other accents, such as à, ã, ê, etc., but all other accents work
perfectly in the US-Intl with dead keys layout. The only exception is the
cedilla.

In other words, we need to do what the workarounds do, that is, to change the
behavior of the 'c combination, and only that.

Thanks again,
Leandro.

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-03-30 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Glad to hear that you appreciate it, Leandro.

I'd like to clarify the nature of the change. Basically I 'stole' the
dead key, which in the "English (US, international with dead keys)"
layout is used for typing á, é, ć, etc., and converted it to a dead key
for typing ȩ, ç, etc. The key is marked with a red frame in the attached
graphical layout.

As a consequence, typing e.g. á and é is made more difficult. It can be
done with +a respective +e, but there is no longer a dead
key for typing á or é.

So I'd like to ask: Is this the best way to fix 'the cedilla issue'? Is
this in accordance with people's expectations?

Dear Gunnar,

I have installed a virtual box of Mint 17 - XFCE and tested your ppa,
and it worked perfectly.

This is fantastic. Thank you very much. I hope this gets into the main
distributions!

[Bug 1438306] [NEW] External monitors receive no signal

2015-03-30 Thread David Overcash

Upon running updates ( which included many related to systemd - so
that's my best guess as to the right package - feel free to reclassify )
I can't get an external monitor to actually receive a signal from my

[Bug 1438301] [NEW] desktop machine suspends with systemd after ~3 minutes, does NOT suspend with upstart

2015-03-30 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

For reasons I cannot fathom, my development server goes into deep
suspend after ~3 minutes after startup with systemd, however, if I boot
with upstart it does not. This happens everytime I boot with systemd,
the machine just goes into a deep suspend without me requesting it.

I enabled "debug"; attached is a gzip'd syslog showing the activity -
look at the end of the log, it goes into deep suspend. No idea why.

acpi_listen is showing some curious audio plug/unplug events that seem
to occur on this development box, so maybe these are being
misinterpreted as suspend events.

$ acpi_listen
jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug

..but I am not seeing any other ACPI related events that could be
triggering a suspend request from acpi_listen.

For reasons I cannot fathom, my development server goes into deep
suspend after ~3 minutes after startup with systemd, however, if I boot
- with upstart it does not.
+ with upstart it does not. This happens everytime I boot with systemd,
+ the machine just goes into a deep suspend without me requesting it.

- $ acpi_listen
+ $ acpi_listen
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE plug
  jack/headphone HEADPHONE unplug

..but I am not seeing any other ACPI related events that could be
triggering a suspend request from acpi_listen.

[Bug 1438249] Re: /sbin/dhclient is unconfined after switch to systemd (aka, equivalent of upstart's network-interface-security.conf not implemented)

2015-03-30 Thread Martin Pitt
So at the moment, apparmor starts After=local-fs.target and
Before=sysinit.target.

network-interface-security.conf does:

start on (starting network-interface or starting network-manager or
starting networking)

network-interface corresponds to ifup@.service, networking is just the
ifupdown init.d script; these two need an After=apparmor.service.
NetworkManager.service has DefaultDependencies=yes (the default), thus
the ordering there is fine already.

It seems to me that adding these two ordering constraints is simpler and
potentially also more efficient than running /sbin/apparmor_parser
manually?

[Bug 1438249] [NEW] /sbin/dhclient is unconfined after switch to systemd (aka, equivalent of upstart's network-interface-security.conf not implemented)

2015-03-30 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

dhclient is starting before the apparmor profile for it is loaded which
results in the following output from aa-status:

$ sudo aa-status
...
4 profiles are in enforce mode.
   /sbin/dhclient
...
1 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined.
   /sbin/dhclient (634)

Upstart had the network-interface-security.conf job to make sure this
didn't happen. We wanted the cache loading library to be implemented in
time (bug #1385414), but it still hasn't landed. Having the cache
loading library in place would mean that this bug would also be fixed,
but now we need to fix this bug differently for 15.04 and it must be
fixed by release.

[Bug 1435287] Re: cups-browsed crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slist_foreach()

2015-03-30 Thread Till Kamppeter
Seb, for me it looks like a problem of glib2 because of the following:

1. In the traceback it does not go throgh the code which I have recently
changed.
2. The crash happens only in Ubuntu Vivid, not in Utopic and not in Fedora.
Vivid has another (newer) version of glib2 than Fedora.
3. It is less probably Avahi as Fedora and Vivid have the same upstream version
of Avahi.

For me it is difficult to investigate the crash by myself as it never
happened for me.

The tracebacks are missing the symbols of Avahi if the code execution
path goes through Avahi.

[Bug 1432158] [NEW] network-manager 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu10 makes my system take about twice as long to boot to the login screen

2015-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The enablement of NetworkManager-wait-online.service in network-manager
0.9.10.0-4ubuntu10 has made my Kubuntu Vivid x64 system take nearly
twice as long to boot to the login screen. I did some investigating and
determined that this is because sddm.service depends on systemd-user-
sessions.service which depends on remote-fs.target which depends on
network-online.target which depends on NetworkManager-wait-
online.service. For that reason, systemd is apparently waiting to start
sddm until both the wired and wireless adapters are connected, which
makes the system take much longer to boot.

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-03-30 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Leandro: I see that you have Ubuntu 14.04, so this is what you should
do: open "Software & Updates", select "Other Software", highlight the
cedilla-test item by clicking it and then click the "Edit..." button. In
the new window, state utopic as the "Distribution" instead of trusty. I
added an attachment which shows the window.

Once that has been changed, you should be able to successfully run

sudo apt-get update

Then you can do

sudo apt-get install xkb-data

or simply

sudo apt-get upgrade

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-03-30 Thread Leandro
Dear Gunnar,

I tried installing the package from PPA, but although I can add the PPA
correctly,
I get messages like when updating the database:

 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch
http://ppa.launchpad.net/gunnarhj/cedilla-test/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages

How should we proceed with the instalation?

Once that step works, should we install the package with:

sudo apt-get install xkeyboard-config - 2.12-1ubuntu1+cedilla

Is that it?

Thank you again,
Leandro.

Certainly I will. I will do that in the following days. My only doubt is that

Thank you very much, this is the way to the solution of this problem.

"xkb-data is architecture independent,..."
Great! This makes things easier for everybody.
I'll try again late, after work, and share here. (I've tried with apt-get and,
of course, it didn't found the repo. )

"If there proves to be a consensus on this approach to deal with the issue -
possibly after some modifications - we should better leave the PPAs and propose
that it's included in the archives, both in Ubuntu and upstream."
In my very humble opinion, this seems to be the most KISS solution for the
issue.

"In other words, I hope that a few users install xdb-data from my PPA, test,
and give feedback here."
I'll help spreading the word and asking some fellows if they are using US intl
dead keys keyboards.

Hi, Leandro? What you think about this? Can you help with some testers?
Please, share your toughts, friend :)

xkb-data is architecture independent, so i386, amd64, etc. doesn't
matter. As regards different Ubuntu versions, I have successfully
installed and run the xkb-data package in my PPA on trusty, utopic, and
vivid installs. So even if it was built in utopic, you can install and
test it in trusty if you like.

If there proves to be a consensus on this approach to deal with the
issue - possibly after some modifications - we should better leave the
PPAs and propose that it's included in the archives, both in Ubuntu and
upstream.

In other words, I hope that a few users install xdb-data from my PPA,
test, and give feedback here.

Of course it's ok - this is free software. ;) But, as I just said, it's
not necessary for testing on trusty.

[Bug 1438106] Re: bumblebee doesn't work with systemd on 15.04, but works with upstart

2015-03-30 Thread Martin Pitt
bumblebeed itself fails in the modprobe call, so reassigning back for
now. This could also belong to kmod, but let's find out what's wrong
first. What does that command say?

   grep -r off /etc/mod*

My suspicion is that there is some "alias whatever off" in
/etc/modprobe.d which bumblebee tries to load, and bumblebee calls
"modprobe whatever" and gets this error:

modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod-module.c:816 kmod_module_insert_module()
could not find module by name='off'
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'off': Function not implemented

This is how current kmod behaves, and is independent of systemd vs.
upstart. That may or may not be a kmod bug, but I don't think it is --
"off" is not a magic name in any way, it's not documented in man
modprobe.d. So it seems "off" is merely a convention, but modprobing
indeed will fail. I'll wait for your confirmation, then we can set this
to "Triaged", and I suggest the upstream bug should be reopened.

Thanks!
I don't see any "off" in the bumblebee source, and debian/bumblebee.conf (which
gets installed into /etc/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf) looks fine to me.

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-03-30 Thread J. S. Lopes
@Gunnar

first of all, thank you for your (weekend :) time and good will with
this issue. And yes, of course, this can be considered an answer. Now I
know where to start searching for the changes that affected the old
behaviour.

Unfortunately, I cannot test your PPA because my machine (this) is
running Trusty (14.04.1) in an AMD64. But I have an old spare 386 for
tests. I will test in it after work and share here.

If all goes well, I'll try to learn how to package for PPA and (if I
succeed, of course) publish a version for Trusty-64 too. Is this ok?

Thanks again and have a nice day.
