[Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18

2016-04-06 Thread dino99
@Cui

yes i just decover that issue too (as i never use alt-tab before) :
- open 3 apps
- hit alt tab: a popup propose the 3 opened apps:
  a) if the alt key is released, then the switch is made between the 2nd & 3rd
opened apps only. (in fact the last active one & the previous one)
  3) but if alt key IS NOT released, then selecting the app from the popup
works, and the switch is done as expected.

Well, the design seems have changed and is not as intuitive as expected.

[Bug 1567085] [NEW] LUKS swap partition destroyed upon reboot in 15.10 and 16.04

2016-04-06 Thread Vlad K.
Public bug reported:

Usually on every reboot, sometimes every other, the LUKS encrypted swap
partition is being destroyed. blkid shows no UUID for the partition,
cryptsetup doesn't recognize it as a LUKS partition. This is logged:

 4 406GB 430GB 24,0GB primary

#2 is LUKS swap and #3 is LUKS root, which obviously gets decrypted and
mounted okay. This started happening after an update in 15.10 few weeks
ago and aparently continues in 16.04 beta 2.

Just because metacity --compostite vs. metacity --no-composite? No. He

Probably way easier is to document, to execute in terminal:
gsettings set org.gnome.metacity compositing-manager false

I don't want even tell that non-composited case is supported... There is no
transparency - we can not have background + nautilus desktop window. It
looks broken and there is no easy fix. And sooner or latter ubuntu will
stop patching background back in nautilus.

Compiz is *not* a replacement for Metacity's compositing mode. Actually

I hope that compiz will get support for _GTK_FRAME_EXTENTS, then there will
be no issues with window decorations. Alt+right click? Super+Alt+right
click...

Anyway I do not plan to drop compiz session at least yet. Otherwise why I
did bother replacing libmetacity-private with libmetacity?

[Bug 1565640] Re: Set compositing-manager=false by default

2016-04-06 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
The idea of having two different sessions (with and without compositing)
sounds nice. Alberts, do you think this is something that could be done
upstream? (I.e. we'll need to clone the desktop and session files).

Compiz is *not* a replacement for Metacity's compositing mode. Actually
Compiz is very broken with GNOME Flashback: there is no Alt+right click
to open panel preferences, there are issues with window decorations,
etc. Actually I was even thinking of disabling Compiz session for Xenial
because of these issues.

[Bug 1566950] [NEW] error juding nautilus window by XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP

2016-04-06 Thread Cui Wei
Public bug reported:

the value of the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP of the following is:

Generic GNOME 3 Session:GNOME
Generic GNOME 3 Flashback Session: GNOME-Flashback

Unity Session:Unity
Ubuntu's GNOME 3 Flashback Session:GNOME-Flashback:Unity

so the condition line of "nautilus-3.18.4.is.3.14.3/src/nautilus-
window.c" (Line 1557) should be:

if (desktop && !strstr (desktop, "Unity"))

not: if (desktop && strstr (desktop, "GNOME"))

Fixing this bug will make nautilus window under "Ubuntu Gnome-Session-
Flashback" work well like it under Unity Session, otherwise, window
border of nautilus cannot resize!

[Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18

2016-04-06 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
GNOME Shell does not use metacity... So it might be different bug, or
"shared" bug in both - metacity and mutter. Tried to run GNOME Shell
session in virtual box, tried few times to open & close midori &
synaptic, but for me everything works... :(

Cui, if bug is only with compositing manager then you could try to revert this
commit:

(it might introduce crashes...)

[Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18

2016-04-06 Thread Cui Wei
@dino99

Yes. I am using "metacity >/tmp/stdout 2>/tmp/stderr" to save the log.
When this bug happens, no text generated from those files.

As for "1)" that you said, the browser is not merely closed. To be more
precise, its widget become transparent (covered by nautilus background),
and the process is still running.

"killing nautilus" or "restarting metacity" will display those widget
again.

[Bug 1444958] Re: STC830:Brazos:br311p06: file(s) are deleted from the /tmp after each reboot on Ubuntu OS

2016-04-06 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The referenced Debian bug was about sanitizing the migration like postinst
steps.
These fixes of the systemdare in Wily and Xenial due to merges of the package.

Eventually we have to conclude that we have a new intended behavior and not
really a bug.
If you actually want the old behavior the bug holds workarounds provided by
Martin Pitt - thanks a lot.
For those who want more detail please take a look at
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/utopic/man5/tmpfiles.d.5.html

I'm not sure if the correct bug state would be Invalid or Opinion now -
IMHO I'm setting invalid, but feel free to change.

@Alberts

also have that issue on a fresh xenial 64 bits , ext4 partition,
installed from the mini.iso, and using a gnome-shell session with
nvidia-361. This is a pure genuine install (no ppa or else) but share an
ext3 /home with wily 32 bits & an other wily 64-> xenial 64 dist-
upgraded.

1) with the fresh install : when i have 'midori' (example case) and
'synaptic' (other example) opened on the same workspace. Then if i
click on the top left x to close 'synaptic', it is closed as expected,
but also the browser (which is not expected). The strangeness: no error
popup nor logged. So its difficult to blame a package or an other.

2) with the dist-upgraded xenial, there is no such problem. But it has
its own home folder (does not share the /home partition.

[Bug 1427877] Re: Media, brightness and volume keys don't work with GNOME 3.15.90

2016-04-06 Thread Maurits Lamers
Just leaving a comment that I am still suffering from this problem described in
the title under Gnome-shell 3.16.4. After a while the sound buttons (and only
the sound buttons) stop working. None of the other issues that are described as
related above (Light not working from the menu, or the delay in loading the
Power settings) apply, just the sound buttons.
Doing Alt-F2 + r fixes the problem (at least for a while).

2016-04-06 Thread Martin Pitt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1565617 ***

This is just a cosmetical error message, it fails to run polkit as
that's not available in emergency mode. But the reload works anyway.
This got fixed yesterday in bug 1565617, so I'm marking this a
duplicate.

You can enter emergency mode by specifying "emergency" on the kernel
command line, BTW.

[Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18

2016-04-06 Thread Cui Wei
I found out the reason, but I don't know how to reproduce the bug.

Sometimes, metacity failed to recognize depth layer of "nautilus/nemo-
background" and normal window, see the following ->

When I get trapped into this bug described above, running "killalll
nautilus" under tty1 (Ctrl+F1), then all window except nautilus
background can be seen !!! It seems that metacity thinks
nautilus background has higher layer than normal windows.

I don't think it's the bug from nautilus, because of the following proof:

1) even replacing nautilus with other similar file explorer like nemo, this bug
also happens;

2) when using compiz or older version of metacity, this bug don't
happen;

So I think there should be some check of source code that is related with the
top-level window covering other window. Don't let nautilus background (nemo
-n) cover all normal windows.

[Bug 1563322] Re: Two glitches when installing Google Chrome

2016-04-06 Thread Alessandro Viprati
I tried today, just updated Ubuntu 16.04, to install Chrome: everything
worked well and I didn't find the "could not find any google-chrome-
stable" message.

But, I was thinking to upload the screenshot of my google-chrome installation
(without error message), but neither "Launch" or "Remove" buttons work!!!
Can you confirm that both buttons don't work?

[Bug 1546317] Re: Accessibility indicator is missing from ubiquity-dm at the "Try Ubuntu" dialog

2016-04-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.21.54

---
ubiquity (2.21.54) xenial; urgency=medium

  * ubiquity/frontends/gtk_ui.py:
- Extend keyboard shortcut code for accessibility profiles to work with
flavours other than Ubuntu/Unity (LP: #1546317)
- Disable the screen reader activation keyboard shortcut in Unity, GNOME,
and Mate flavours. In almost all cases, the settings daemon catches the
keystroke before Ubiquity gets it, and was preventing the blindness
  profile from being properly activated
  * Drop unused profile set method that was missed previously
  * Automatic update of included source packages: console-setup
1.108ubuntu13, hw-detect 1.117ubuntu1, netcfg 1.135ubuntu2,
choose-mirror 2.65ubuntu6.

[Bug 1565640] Re: Set compositing-manager=false by default

2016-04-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
> @Alberts, I'll do some more tests and come up with hard numbers
concerning the performance of metacity with or without compositing.

I did some benchmarks and reported them in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1566157

Now I'm more convinced that metacity's compositing-manager should be
false by default. For LTSP users, I'll document how to create a
/usr/local/bin/metacity wrapper that launches `metacity --no-composite`.

Quoting my conclusions from that bug report:

I really think that the user's choices would be:
1) compiz, for every PC that supports it,
2) metacity --no-composite, for any PC that doesn't support compiz and that
isn't able to spare 50%-80% of their FPS,
3) metacity --composite, ONLY for the minority of the PCs with graphics cards
that can't run compiz and with so awesome CPUs that can spare 50-80% of their
FPS. If you can find an example of such a PC, please let me know, currently I
don't know of any. I do know of thousands of examples in category (2) though.

Since `metacity --composite` is so much slower, affecting all apps and actions
from simple drawing to scrolling to moving around windows to watching videos to
game playing etc,
I'd like to again ask you to consider NOT making (3) the preferred session for
gnome-flashback for 16.04.

I.e. gnome-flashback-compiz could be the default (proposed one),
and gnome-flashback-metacity the non composited version,
with the --composite option only available as a gsetting for the minority of
the people that would need it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1566157] Re: Metacity's compositing is too slow

2016-04-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Here's another benchmark, with an SDL 2D game, teeworlds, running full
screen:

no wm: 220 FPS
metacity --no-composite: 220
metacity --composite: 130
compiz: 218
xcompmgr: 130
compton: 129

I really think that the user's choices would be:
1) compiz, for every PC that supports it,
2) metacity --no-composite, for any PC that doesn't support compiz and that
isn't able to spare 50%-80% of their FPS,
