[Bug 1570701] [NEW] suspend on critical battery state can be prevented by applications
Public bug reported: Some applications prevent the computer from going to suspend mode (applications that display video, eg. chromium, opera, openshot) because they assume it is in the user's interest to keep the screen on even when inactive. This is most times helpful and saves the user from having to move a finger. But on low battery power, the user's inactivity could also be due to absence or sleep, and keeping the computer on until the power is 0.000% causes more damage than it serves the user's interest: - battery drain over time - data loss We can not rely on that every application implements sophisticated power management in the user's interest and has no malicious intentions. It is crucial that the operating system still reserves to have the last word in resource and power management. Steps to reproduce: 1. Watch a video in Opera (36) in full screen 2. Fall asleep 3. After some hours, the computer is either still on (with battery <3%) or already off Expected behavior: When not connected to an external power source and battery has low power (<30%), the usual procedure for suspend is still applied: 1. Notification on inactivity 2. Suspend There may be a way to configure this manually, but I think due to the implications of hardware drain and data loss Ubuntu should come with a reasonable default that serves the interests of general, unconscious users. [Bug 1570533] [NEW] wrong character width with Ubuntu Mono and replacement fonts in gnome-terminal:
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using Ubuntu Mono in gnome-terminal. When displaying some unicode (non ascii) characters that are not in Ubuntu Mono and a fallback font is used, the spacing between the glyphs is wrong (too small). The fallback characters are double width, but the next character is display after a single width, leading into overlapping characters. If I see this correctly, gnome-terminal is using libvte which is using pango to render text. I therefore checked how pango renders this with `pango-view --font="Ubuntu Mono 32" --markup --text='x A▷C✚D⚑F↓G↑H..I☺J'` and `pango-view --font="Ubuntu Mono 32" --markup --text='x A▷C✚D⚑F↓G↑H..I☺J'` . In both cases double with characters or "replacement boxes" are displayed and no overlapping occurs. If I use the "monospace" font, no overlapping occurs in gnome-terminal. Whose fault is this and how can it be fixed? I'm on Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS, gnome-terminal's version is 3.6.2-0ubuntu1, tf-ubuntu-font-family 0.80-0ubuntu6 and everything is up to date. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- wrong character width with Ubuntu Mono and replacement fonts in gnome-terminal: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1570479] Re: [UIFe][FFe] Change application Name etc to Ubuntu Software
Have discussed this with Will and Seb on IRC. The plan for avoiding disruption of the GNOME experience (since the GNOME desktop depends on the same package) is to use OnlyShowIn=Unity for the different name, which sounds like a reasonable plan. The biggest problem is that we are past translation freeze for the release, which means that making this change now will regress the name for all non-English users at release time - instead of 'Software' localized in their language, they will see 'Ubuntu Software' in English. It's my recommendation to make this change via SRU, to give translators time to catch up - given that the argument for changing this is to make users more comfortable with the nomenclature, I think having the string appear in a foreign language (and even a foreign script) for the majority of users is more awkward than having the word 'Ubuntu' missing in the near term. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570479 Title: [UIFe][FFe] Change application Name etc to Ubuntu Software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1570479/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570227 Title: Open Recent Items show as always empty in Gedit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1570227/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

compiz is soo slow without 3D support, such as KVM & virtualbox. If I have to use compiz, I will use unity instead of gnome-flashback. marco2 is a branch of old metacity and currently version is stable (including composite-manager), and support GTK3 CDE window. [Bug 1565740] Re: A stop job for user session delays shutdown on Xenial
Right, if something in the user session does not terminate upon SIGTERM and stays around, we will wait for that amount of time for it to shut down. This is a safety measure to avoid hard-killing user processes which still need to save documents or other data. A long shutdown time is an inconvenience for sure, but this is better than losing data by instantly killing hanging processes. It would be better to find out the particular process that's hanging (see "Debugging boot/shutdown problems" in /usr/share/doc/systemd/README.Debian.gz) and file a bug against that. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1565740 Title: A stop job for user session delays shutdown on Xenial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1565740/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18
Hate to say this, but the upgrade to 1:3.18.3-1ubuntu3 the otherday has INTRODUCED a similar bug for me on Ubuntu 16.04 64bit in Gnome fallback metacity session: didn't run across this bug before. Closing any window (or even closing a save as dialogue etc) crashes all windows in the session and falls back to login. [Bug 1570251] [NEW] Merge final release gvfs 1.28.0-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)
Public bug reported: Please merge final release gvfs 1.28.0-1 (main) from Debian testing (main) Xenial is currently on the developemnt release. --- Major changes in 1.28.0 === * afc: Several fixes for recent iOS versions * Translation updates -- The Ubuntu delta: * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes: - Run tests through sudo starting as normal user, so that it can find a non-root user. - Drop libbluray-dev build dependency, it is in universe. - Add B/R for gvfs-backends-goa that we unsplit. Changelog entries since current xenial version 1.27.92-1ubuntu1: gvfs (1.28.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream release. * Upload to unstable. * Track stable releases again. * Drop Recommends on policykit-1-gnome. The udisks2 package already recommends policykit-1, and the PolicyKit authentication agent (the GUI bits) should be pulled in by the individual desktop environments. Some, like GNOME 3, already have this functionality builtin. * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.7. * Drop gvfs-dbg package now that we have automatic dbgsym packages. * Ensure proper upgrade from gvfs-dbg to new dbgsym packages by using dh_strip --dbgsym-migration. Bump Build-Depends on debhelper accordingly. -- Michael Biebl Sun, 03 Apr 2016 15:56:01 +0200 ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1570251 Title: Merge final release gvfs 1.28.0-1 (main) from Debian testing (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1570251/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
