It came back right after 16,04 was released, only this time it is worse: 1. The font is thin in the dash, menu, clock 2. Nautilus doesn't integrate with Unity 3. The left wallpaper is weird, as if it was trying to display two resolutions at the same time 4. There is no wallpaper on the right monitor 5. [Bug 1325142] Re: failure to update libpam-systemd in 14.04 due to missing logind init script
It is longstanding practice, predating either upstart or systemd, that users of Debian and Ubuntu systems should create a /usr/sbin/policy-rc.d as part of their chroot setup. It is not a bug in the libpam-systemd package that it tries to start and stop its service using the policy- declared interface, only to have this fail because you're running in a chroot and nothing has told the system this. The fix that was applied to utopic and later is not applicable to trusty. Later releases "fixed" this problem by removing the upstart job, no longer needed on systems that run systemd as init. That is not at all the appropriate fix in trusty. It is likewise not appropriate to change the libpam-systemd package to silently ignore failures from invoke-rc.d when trying to start the systemd-logind service. Such a change would also negatively impact 14.04 systems for the benefit of chroot environments. This is a systemic problem with the behavior of invoke-rc.d in chroots, and any fix must also be systemic. This problem is noticeable on the libpam-systemd package because it's a package that includes an upstart job but no init script; but many other packages will also misbehave, not by failing but by *succeeding* and running unsupervised processes that are not expected to start in the chroot. So I am marking this bug 'wontfix' for trusty. The proper package to discuss a fix against is sysvinit, which is where /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d comes from in trusty. I have briefly looked at backporting changes from the xenial /usr/sbin /invoke-rc.d. However, while the behavior of the xenial version in chroots appears to be what we're looking for (succeed silently), this also appears to work only if systemd is detected via the presence of /run/systemd/system. So this would not solve the problem for all use cases. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325142 Title: failure to update libpam-systemd in 14.04 due to missing logind init script To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1325142/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1573728] [NEW] Files opened with gedit on command line no longer open within the existing gedit session
Public bug reported: Prior to my update today to Ubuntu 16.04, I could open a file using gedit on the command line and it would open in the gedit window i already have open. After updating to 16.04 when I open a file with say `gedit /tmp/myleakycode.c` it opens in a new window. [Bug 1573695] [NEW] System update broken
Public bug reported: System update easily broken. Here is the procedure. And I believe this may happen to many Chinese users I downloaded Sougou Pinyin (the most popular Chinese input app) from official website which is released the same date 16.04 is released and claims it supports 16.04. I downloaded the file sogoupinyin_2.0.0.0072_amd64.deb, and double click to install. Then Ubuntu Software window pops up. And I click "install", then no response. And I clicked again, this time a "Waiting to install" icon appears on the sidebar but never finishes. Then I turned off my PC and turn it back on again, now I see a red icon appears on top of top sidebar near time which indicates "An error occurred. Please run Package Manager ..." And since then I am not able to install any update. I believe this is a blocker bug. And I have to re-install the system again. [Bug 1538111] Re: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18
Hi, I met window missing just now, based on ppa version. But when I use Ctrl + Shift + I to debug, I found out that the debug window is also unable to display. Luckily, I was using nemo, so I switch to tty1 and run: DISPLAY=:0 gsettings set org.nemo.desktop show-desktop-icons false Then switching back to desktop, all windows came back. So it is definitely the background cover all windows. If I execute "gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-flashback desktop-background true", then it will also cover all windows, which is similar to this issue but this issue is cause by nautilus/nemo covering other windows. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1538111 Title: untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1538111/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've attached some screen shots, if it's more understandable than my not-so-perfect English, sorry about that. [Bug 1573563] [NEW] Toggling full screen mode does not work well after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 from 15.10
Public bug reported: I use tons of terminal windows (gnome-terminal) all the time for various tasks. Thus, it's important for me to be able to go into full screen mode (F11) - if I need more attention or space and switch back later. I haven't got any problem with this in previous Ubuntu versions, after "switching back" from fullscreen mode, I got the terminal window at its original place and size. However, after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 recently, if I press F11 to switch back, the terminal window is enlarged to cover almost the full desktop, it's not "full screen" anymore (that's OK), ie I can see panel, borders, etc, but still it's not the original size and position of the window. So I have to manually resize the window all the time. I have tested that, 1、without composite manager, this issue (edge of each title charactor is unerased) doesn't happen, even when the window is maximized. 2、If the window is not maximized, this issue also doesn't happen, even when Composite Manager is enabled. 3、this issue doesn't happen inside my created virtualbox, even if this virtualbox runs on my current metacity session, with composite manager enabled.
