Oh I see... this was already fixed upstream in nautilus 3.16 but Ubuntu
has version "3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu4" which is actually quite old.

Yes, comments on the upstream bug are that this was already resolved by:

[Bug 1605397] [NEW] gnome-terminal doesn't return to its original size when unsnapping from the side of the screen

2016-07-21 Thread Matthew Fearnley
Public bug reported:

If you snap a Terminal window to the side of the screen, and then drag
it away with the mouse, it changes back to its original width, but its
height remains as that of the screen, so that you end up with an
unusually tall window.

This happens if you drag it away, or click the, er, "maximize" button,
but not if you unsnap it with Ctrl-Super-Left/Right.

This is on an up-to-date version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

(A similar problem occurred on a fresh 16.04.0 install or LiveCD, where
the window would retain the full screen dimensions on un-maximizing.
That has been fixed now, but this one is still a problem.)

[Bug 1573206] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2016-07-21 Thread Peter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1573408 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573408

Please fix this bug!!! This has not been fixed despite what has been
claimed. I have done a clean install of both 16.04 and 16.04.1 and the
bug persists. Come on guys, this is a LTS release, and this should be
addressed. Work-arounds is not a solution for faulty software.

It looks to me that when you try to install some package from the
Software Centre, it starts the install then hangs. I believe this is
because a dialog box should appear asking for admin credentials to
install the software, but since that dialog box does not appear it just
sits there waiting.

My set up is a Dell Precision M4500 (but this isn't a hardware issue -
it is most definitely a software problem). My installation is a fully
encrypted hard drive with encrypted home directory if that makes a
difference.

Please mark this bug as not fixed.

[Bug 1605330] [NEW] Guarantee access to /dev/rfkill

2016-07-21 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

indicator-bluetooth wants direct access to /dev/rfkill.

In Ubuntu, that access is granted to the current active user by logind
by virtue of the uaccess tag on /dev/rfkill.

That tag is granted by /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gnome-settings-daemon-
rfkill.rules from the gnome-settings-daemon package.

I think indicator-bluetooth either should:

1) ship its own version of that file to grant the uaccess tag to
/dev/rfkill, or

2) simply use the DBus api provided by rfkilld, if that's possible (I
don't happen to know whether indicator-bluetooth's rfkill usage can be
easily ported)

This came up in the context of Ubuntu Touch, where gnome-settings-daemon
is not installed (the phablet user is granted access by being in the
android_input group, but that is a solution we'd like to move away from
as we support more users and a proper lightdm greeter).

[Bug 1602863] Re: nautilus crashes on non-X11 systems Wayland and Mir, with SIGSEGV trying to call XInternAtom() from gdk_x11_atom_to_xatom_for_display()

2016-07-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Daniel, your backtrace looks different from the one on this bug though
... anyway, to debug by somebody who has a machine without x11 working
well enough to be able to start nautilus

2016-07-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It still crashes in the same place even with nautilus --no-desktop

I'm still guessing it's a simple fix like in comment #12.

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu)

Does it work if you make it no display the background (using --no-
desktop or changing the gsettings key)?

It might be fixed with
https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=c8f45f2 if somebody
wants to try that patch, unsure if it would need updating for our older
nautilus version though

Find this bug annoying so I start googling. Glad to see it solved after
5 years.
