[Bug 1612010] [NEW] Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen

2016-08-10 Thread lunix
Public bug reported:

Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen (saw it via Bug # 1292041 now closed)
Ctrl=Alt+L or Super+L shortcut works and blanks the screen
requiring me to type my password again to activate session.

However my System-Settings -> Brightness & Lock is set to:
Turn screen off when inactive for: 30 minutes
Lock: OFF
Lock screen after: Screen turns off (is grayed out)
Require my password when waking from suspend (unchecked and grayed out)

I have dual monitors. Both are Samsung and this feature is highly
intermittent, meaning sometimes it works and often it doesn't.
For example it hasn't worked for days but I changed the System-Settings
from 30-minutes to 1-min. and it started working without a reboot.

Is it possible that a kernel update changes some value that alters the
setting? Then when I change the time in the window it repopulates a value?

I am on Ubuntu 16.04.1 but I have seen this issue for years now.

** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1611162] Re: 16.04.1 LTS: using "screen lock" requires reboot to use computer

2016-08-10 Thread Promptjock
UPDATE: I think I discovered the "root problem"! it looks like the
"Screen Off after xx minutes" function, combined with the "Require
password when waking from suspend" option checked (System Settings,
Brightness & Lock) is causing the problem. The attached screen capture
shows the relevant settings. DATA: I DISABLED the "Screen off" function
("Never" option) and un-checked the "Require password when waking..."
option, then activated the Screen Lock and "let it sit". I was able to
exit Screen Lock via my password. I then re-enabled the aforementioned
"Brightness & Lock" options (see the attached Screen Capture picture for
the settings) and THE PROBLEM CAME BACK! when I enabled Screen Lock, the
screen "faded out" then the monitor went into "power save" mode (i.e.,
"no input signal detected"). I then moved my mouse/"worked" the
keyboard, and the display NEVER CAME BACK - I had to reboot (via RESET
button) to regain functionality.

For the record, BEFORE the upgrade from 14.04 LTS, the system was set to
use the aforementioned "Screen off..." and "Require password when
waking..." functions and there were no problems in coming out of Screen
Lock by moving the mouse/"working" the keyboard.

[Bug 1611945] [NEW] /dev/disk/by-path not properly populated for (e)SATA port multiplier disks

2016-08-10 Thread Chris Siebenmann
Public bug reported:

We have a just-installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS machine with a number of disks
behind port-multiplier eSATA ports, all of them driven by a SiI 3124
controller (sata_sil24 kernel driver). Our machine sees all disks on all
channels, however under 16.04 only one disk from each channel shows up
in /dev/disk/by-path/ (all disks show up in /dev/disk/by-id and
/dev/disk/by-uuid). For our usage this is a severe defect because we
rotate disks in and out of the external enclosure and rely on mounting
specific slots in the external enclosure through /dev/disk/by-path.

This did not happen in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the release that this machine
was previously running.

According to 'udevadm info --export-db' and 'udevadm test-builtin
path_id' and so on, systemd's udev stuff is assigning all drives behind
the same port the same disk/by-path data (ID_PATH et al). In 'udevadm
info /sys/block/sdX', the 'P:' and 'E: DEVPATH=' values show a
difference in the target portion of PCI path, eg:

  P:
/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/:02:00.0/ata1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda
  P:
/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/:02:00.0/ata1/host0/target0:1:0/0:1:0:0/block/sdb

However the 'S: disk/by-path', 'E: DEVLINKS=', and 'E: ID_PATH' portions
do not. For both devices above, we see:

  S: disk/by-path/pci-:02:00.0-ata-1
  E: ID_PATH=pci-:02:00.0-ata-1

Naturally only one device can have a /dev/disk/by-
path/pci-:02:00.0-ata-1 symlink, so instead of four disks per
channel in /dev/disk/by-path we see one.

Ubuntu release: 16.04

Package versions from 'apt-cache policy udev systemd':
udev:
  Installed: 229-4ubuntu7
systemd:
  Installed: 229-4ubuntu7

'journalctl -b' reports that during boot systemd does report some
'appeared twice with different sysfs paths' notes, eg:

Aug 10 13:34:21 verdandi systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2dpath-
pci\x2d:02:00.0\x2data\x2d1\x2dpart1.device: Dev dev-disk-by
\x2dpath-pci\x2d:02:00.0\x2data\x2d1\x2dpart1.device appeared twice
with different sysfs paths
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/:02:00.0/ata1/host0/target0:3:0/0:3:0:0/block/sdd/sdd1
and
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/:02:00.0/ata1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda/sda1

However it doesn't seem to be reporting this for all port-multiplier
drives and their partitions.

If it would be useful I can attach full 'udevadm info --export-db'
output or the like.

[Bug 1262068] Re: nvidia-prime should support gdm also

2016-08-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gdm3 - 3.20.1-1ubuntu1

---
gdm3 (3.20.1-1ubuntu1) yakkety; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.
  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
+ README.Debian: update for correct paths in Ubuntu
+ Use upstream Xsession script
+ control.in:
  - Drop recommends on desktop-base
  - depend on bash for ubuntu_config_error_dialog.patch
  - Add a transitional gdm package
+ rules:
  - Don't override default user/group
  - --enable-gdm-xsession to install upstream Xsession script
  - override of dh_installinit with --no-start to avoid session being killed
+ rules, README.Debian, gdm3.8.pod:
  Use upstream custom.conf instead of daemon.conf
+ Migrate settings to gdm3 paths, this can be dropped in 16.10
  - Migrate pam files as per debian structure
  - gdm.preinst, gdm3.postinst: Move conffiles to new location (/etc/gdm3)
  - gdm.postinst: purge the old gdm dconf profile
  - generate_config: update gdm user homedir, done here since systemd blocks
usermod from working in maintscripts
  - gdm3.config: force transition of dconf selection to gdm3
+ gdm3.{postinst,postrm}: rename user and group back to gdm
+ gdm3.postinst: don't kill gdm on upgrade
+ gdm3.*.pam: Make pam_env read ~/.pam_environment (LP: #952185)
+ ubuntu_run_xsession.d.patch
+ ubuntu_upstart_event.patch:
  - emit upstart events
+ ubuntu_xresources_is_a_dir.patch
   when running systemd init
+ ubuntu_nvidia_prime.patch:
  - Add hook to run prime-offload (as root) and prime-switch if
nvidia-prime is installed (LP: #1262068)
+ revert_override_LANG_with_accountservices.patch:
  - On Ubuntu accountservices only stores the language and not the
full locale as needed by LANG.
+ ubuntu_config_error_dialog.patch:
  - Show warning dialog in case of error in ~/.profile etc. and
don't let a syntax error make the login fail (LP: #678421).
+ 09_default_session.patch:
  - Dropped, all the other Ubuntu flavors use LightDM and it only takes a
gsettings override to set a different default session

gdm3 (3.20.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Restore debian/patches/09_default_session.patch as we postponed the switch
to Wayland.
  * Upload to unstable.

gdm3 (3.20.0-2) experimental; urgency=medium

  * debian/rules: Switch back the initial VT to vt1 (Closes: #819423)
  * Drop /usr/share/gdm/greeter/dbus-1 files, gdm/gnome-shell doesn't try to
start telepathy-mission-control and gnome-online-accounts anymore.
  * Drop debian/patches/09_default_session.patch completely as we want to
default to the wayland session for now.
  * debian/default.desktop.in: Update the Name of the Comment to make it clear
that it will start the X11 default session of the system.

gdm3 (3.20.0-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Drop debian/patches/93_disable_gvfs.patch
- superseded by upstream commit 5e81151a147
  "launch-environment: disable gvfs except in initial setup mode"
  * Bump gnome-shell dependency to >= 3.19.92
- new interactions between gdm and gnome-shell for session start
  * New upstream release.
  * Temporarily disable debian/patches/09_default_session.patch
- the System Default ("default") session is currently broken, so use
  upstreams default ("gnome") while investigating.

gdm3 (3.19.92-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Add build-dependency on xserver-xorg-dev for xorg-server.pc
- upstream configure.ac now checks for xserver version.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.7.
  * Refresh the following patches to apply:
- debian/patches/09_default_session.patch
- debian/patches/16_xserver_path.patch
- debian/patches/90_config_comments.patch
  (Drop greeter section comments as that section was removed.)
- debian/patches/93_disable_gvfs.patch

nautilus. Is there no way to get the menu back in nautilus the same as
for the other apps?

[Bug 1611478] [NEW] Ubuntu software installer freezes while installing Opera

2016-08-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Downloaded latest .deb from Opera (amd64), and opened it with software
installer. Software installer started out fine, got authentication,
then froze. It has 'installing' in the little box near the top under
the name of the software 'Opera-stable'. Didn't work on second download
either, so doubt it is corruption of download. No messages issued
describing why it froze, no time-out happened to rescue the situation,
nothing presented to tell anyone where it was when it froze, just frozen
box.

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

The update to Nautilus 1:3.20.1-0ubuntu2 has remove this problem
although there is no menu pull-down that contains "Invert Selection".
The CTL-Shift-I does provide this function.
