Hi,

I was just stacked by this trouble ... (1) cannot input Japanese characters
via Mozc (Japanese input method) in Dash search window (2) cannot input any
Japanese characters for Skype.
I suppose these troubles closely connected to this bug.

Both troubles was solved like a magic by installing gnome-session
packages at Gunnar's PPA (ppa:gunnarhj/gnome-im). I suggest this
modification will link to solve the problem.

[Bug 204908] Re: World clock applet lacks country Iraq

2016-08-18 Thread D. Charles Pyle
OK, final posting (I could not find a way to edit older posts or I would
have just done that instead of multi-posting). A whole lot was wrong
(some my fault; got a splitting headache at the moment giving me a bit
of brain fog) but I am also attaching a text file of the weather
stations listed in a file from the NOAA. The four letter code for the
weather station at Baghdad International Airport is ORBB, which I took
out of that file just now. The snippet of text to use in instruction
number 3 is as follows:

Baghdad
33.2625008 44.2346001

  Baghdad International Airport
  ORBB
  33.2625008 44.2346001

This should work with both the gnome-clocks app and the gnome-weather
app. Information in the NOAA list I attach to this post can be used to
make a few more additional Iraqi locations with a little bit of effort
at converting the coordinates data.

[Bug 204908] Re: World clock applet lacks country Iraq

2016-08-18 Thread D. Charles Pyle
Here is a workaround:

1. Open /usr/share/libgweather/Locations.xml as an Administrator using
gedit or your other favorite text editor.

2. Find the following text:

  Iraq

  IQ
  IZ

  Asia/Baghdad

3. Insert the following just between Asia/Baghdad and
:

Baghdad
29.56 34.951667

  Baghdad International Air
  SDA
  33.318279 44.416667

4. Save the file.

This will give you at least Baghdad and gnome-clocks will display the
correct time and allow you to find the city in the list. Others can be
created and inserted as needed. I am also adding the XML Iraq entry in
my location file as an attachment in case the text does not display
correctly above when posted.

[Bug 1594681] Re: Don't override IM variables

2016-08-18 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Currently these variable settings are hardcoded in gnome-session and
  gnome-settings-daemon:

  QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
  XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus

That way the use of alternative IM frameworks, for instance fcitx, is
prevented. The variables should only be set if they are empty, so the
values set by im-config are honored.

  [Test Case]

  * Install Ubuntu GNOME
+ * Install both the gnome-session and gnome-settings-daemon proposed updates
  * Install fcitx
  * Set fcitx as the input method:
- im-config -n fcitx
+   im-config -n fcitx
  * Relogin
  * Check the IM-related environment variables:
- env | grep -E '_IM|XMOD'
+   env | grep -E '_IM|XMOD'

After the proposed uploads of gnome-session and gnome-settings-daemon,
those variables are consistently (unlike before) set to "fcitx".

  [Regression Potential]

Low. im-config sets "ibus" by default in Ubuntu GNOME anyway. This
change prevents an inconsistent input method configuration for users who
have actively chosen some other IM framework.
+
+ The gnome-settings-daemon change was included upstream in 3.19.3 and the
+ gnome-session change was included upstream in 3.21.90.

[Bug 1572260] [samba/xenial] possible regression found

2016-08-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
As a part of the Stable Release Updates quality process a search for
Launchpad bug reports using the version of samba from xenial-proposed

[Bug 1592382] Re: Updates are notified even when they are installed automatically

2016-08-18 Thread Renardo
As far as I understand the fix is no longer "proposed" but released; but
I still experience this phenomenon (bubble with “software updates
available” but no reaction on clicks). On my system (Ubuntu 16.04, daily
updates) it happened an hour ago. gnome-software/about says 3.20.1.

Looking through open windows I discovered an update manager, hidden
behind other windows. So maybe it just was a wrong expectation of mine
that clicking on the bubble would pop up update manager? Is the bubble
just a sign to “look for update manager”?

Sorry if this sounds more like a question than a bug comment – at the
moment I cannot tell the difference.

[Bug 1614593] [NEW] gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform

2016-08-18 Thread A. Scheuer
Public bug reported:

Hello.

I am currently unable to apply the cage-base transform, whatever the
image: at the end of the two first computations (creation of the cage
and first deformation), gimp freezes (at the last pixel of the circle)!

And no way to get it back... Except closing.

[Bug 1608953] Re: PostgreSQL does not start in lx-brand container

OK, thanks. Marking this as "hw-specific" then, which is not entirely
accurate, but it essentially means "only the reporter can test a stable
release update". I'll pull in the patch into the xenial branch and will
ask you for testing once it gets into xenial-proposed (which might still
take a while as this is low-priority). Thanks!

[Bug 1614557] [NEW] Add support for Challenge/Response input

2016-08-18 Thread Thomas M Steenholdt
Public bug reported:

2-factor authentication is all the rage these days, so we should to be
able to prompt for the Challenge Response when needed... Right now the
behaviour looks more like a password failure and it doesn't work (I'm on
Gnome3).

OpenVPN transaction that is probably what we need to look for is something
along the lines of:
"AUTH_FAILED,CRV1:R,E:lYxXoM3BLBcdnCytgqUoRn64c4y5b3BB:eHRoc3Q=:Enter PASSCODE"

Prompt for "Enter PASSCODE" and submit that to openvpn and it should
probably be it?

The terminal openvpn client added similar support in 2.3.11 and it
works.

/Thomas

[Bug 1614554] [NEW] most recent part of graphs in resources tab is hidden

2016-08-18 Thread Adrian Pappas
Public bug reported:

On the resources tab, the most recent part of the monitoring graphs are
out of view. I am referring to the right side of the graph.

The problem becomes more prominent when the window is small
horizontally. As I scale it up horizontally, I can see more recent
measurements, but still there is a delay between the measurements and
the graph. When the window is at its minimum horizontal size, the delay
between measurement (text) and graph is more than 10 seconds, which is a
bit troublesome for visual real time system monitoring.

I might not be explaining this very well with words, so I'm attaching a
screenshot. Notice the usage of CPU3 (it has been at 100% for a few
seconds when I took the screenshot). I've circled the areas where the
problem occurs.

I've tested this problem with the CPU history and network history
graphs, it seems to be the same issue on both.

I am on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS . The version of gnome-system-monitor is
3.18.2-1 .

[Bug 1614412] [NEW] cpufreq-applet uses huge amount of RAM

2016-08-18 Thread robin
Public bug reported:

According to GNOME System Monitor, the cpufreq-applet I have in the top
panel of GNOME is currently using 376MB of RAM, after 8 hours uptime. At
system start it's more respectable, in the single digits, the amount of
memory it uses gradually climbs as I leave the system on longer. If I
hover over one of the icons, left-click or right-click, the RAM use goes
up by a few hundred kilobytes. Opening 'About' or 'Preferences' make sit
jump even more. There are 4 instances of the applet, one for each of the
two (hyperthreaded) cores; the system is a Thinkpad T420, with a dual-
core Intel i5-2520M processor.

This is on Ubuntu 16.04.1, all updates installed, using the version of
gnome-applets which is in the default Ubuntu repositories.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1614389] [NEW] Please silence these messages

2016-08-18 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

With the ubuntu grub2 default config, these messages are logged into
journalctl:

kernel: NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
kernel: NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver
kernel: NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other console
kernel: NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in
kernel: NVRM: corruption and stability problems, and is not supported.

They are uselessly scarying users; and a /etc/default/grub tweak can
remove them:

change the default #GRUB_TERMINAL=console to GRUB_TERMINAL=console

This happen with a nvidia driver on a non uefi old mobo. Nvidia should have
solved this issue, but still exist, as explained with that uefi example:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/827139/linux/uefi-nvidia-vga-console-complaints-/1

Awaiting a nvidia fix that never comes, the best solution for now is to
silence this message.
