[Bug 1615021] Re: Unable to network boot Ubuntu 16.04 installer normally on Briggs

2016-09-19 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks for the followup. Closing the debian-installer part now. The work
on the Debian side wrt. multiplexing the installer UI to mutiple
consoles sounds interesting, but I don't think we should houd our breath
for it -- I think this is going to be tricky given how different the
capabilities of VT and serial consoles are wrt. geometry, colors,
special chars, etc.

[Bug 1448778] Re: Evince fails to display some fonts (some font thing failed)

2016-09-19 Thread Romano Giannetti
Just to add a note: it happened to me also, because I have /usr/local as
a symlink to /home/local (in a different partition) and evince (or
apparmor) correctly complained.

So all fonts from Microsoft, which are installed in /usr/local/font,
came out blank.

Setting aa-complain solved momentarily the thing, then an edit of the
profiles is recommended.

Now, 'some font thing failed' is not exactly a very informative error
message... ;-)

[Bug 1278437] Re: can't move link type .desktop files around on desktop

2016-09-19 Thread Greg Malone
All together now, breath through your nose... A... that's better.

Yes, this is a longstanding issue, but maintaining a major component of
an OS is no small task, I'm sure you know. The Unity desktop dev team,
I'm sure, are working their tails off to improve the s/ware, which
includes prioritizing the issues.

I share your concern, though, and hope to see this issue resolved sooner
than later.

Kinda goes with choosing Linux as one's OS... it has gotten so much more
solid over the last decade, but still shows seams here and there.

Now, exhale !

[Bug 1624844] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 breaks boot with wrong zpool.cache

2016-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Having just upgraded Ubuntu 16.04, and seeing systemd updates, I
rebooted the machine, but it failed to start, entering emergency mode.
Relevant piece of info was this:

* Failed to start Import ZFS pools by cache file.
* Started Mount ZFS filesystems
** A start job is running for dev-disk

and then it enters emergency mode.

Now, the only ZFS pool I have is a backup USB HDD which is constantly
attached, and the pool is on a LUKS provider, meaning you won't see it
until the provider is unlocked.

My guess is that the latest update, having triggered initramfs rebuild,
wrote the zpool.cache file with that state, and it shouldn't have.

This is totally wrong, as zpool cache should not be built like this as
it PREVENTS you from having external pools that might not be available
on boot. I also have no idea why it happened now because I've been
having this setup (external backup zfs pool on a LUKS provider) since
16.04 came out and never had a problem until now.

Removing the /etc/zfs/zpool.cache allowed the system to reboot fine.

[Bug 1625217] [NEW] udev sometimes doesn't apply systemd tag to devices

2016-09-19 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading this machine to yakkety I've seen periodic hangs during
booting. If I wait long enough systemd give up and drops to maintenance
mode. Looking in the journal I see events like this:

Sep 19 08:24:22 ubuntu-xps13 systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2duuid-
63cd6483\x2ddf95\x2d4426\x2d916e\x2d8c28becbfd8f.device: Job dev-disk-by
\x2duuid-63cd6483\x2ddf95\x2d4426\x2d916e\x2d8c28becbfd8f.device/start
timed out.

Searching on the internet indicates that this happen if devices reported
by udev don't have the "systemd" tag, and I find that they do not have
the tag when the boot times out but they do have the tag when boot does
not time out.

This happens once for every 3 or 4 boots and with both 4.4 and 4.8
kernels. I'm attaching the output of 'journalctl -xb' and 'udevadm info
--export-db' from a timed-out boot.

[Bug 1560286] Re: Evince displays pdf file fine, but prints colors inverted

2016-09-19 Thread Marat Khalili
I'm also seeing this on some PDFs in Evince from 14.04. Images appear
correctly in main window, but become inverted in print preview and in
paper printout.

When I extract images from these PDFs using pdfimages tool, extracted
images also appear inverted. Looks like some versions of Acrobat embed
images inverted and uninvert them on output, and this last step is
omitted by Evince when printing.
