[Bug 1625897] [NEW] Update webkitgtk to 2.14.0 in yakkety
Public bug reported: Recently, Ubuntu released a security update for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS upgrading webkit2gtk (WK2) from 2.10.9 to 2.12.5. WK2 roughly follows the GNOME release cycle and released 2.14.0 this week. Based on previous updates, we can expect a security advisory for this update to be published soon. Therefore, I'd like to go ahead and sync webkit2gtk 2.14.0-1 from Debian to yakkety now. Because it's a security-related update where the security improvements can't be easily split out, I don't believe it needs a Feature Freeze exception. Testing I've done: - I've been running 2.13 development releases for a few weeks. - The package has built successfully on Debian on all architectures Ubuntu cares about: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=webkit2gtk - 2.14.0 has been pushed to the GNOME3 Staging PPA for yakkety (which also includes GTK 3.22) - I built 2.14 in my yakkety PPA for all normal PPA architectures (this PPA does not use GTK 3.22 or have other odd dependency changes) https://launchpad.net/~jbicha/+archive/ubuntu/arch/+packages - I tested Tuesday's daily Ubuntu (Unity) iso with the updated WK2 packages and ensured the slideshow works fine (because 2.12.4 had a regression there, see bug 1618956 ) - There are three GNOME apps that use WK2's unstable DOM API: epiphany-browser, evolution and yelp. The unstable API is scheduled to be removed early in the 2.16 cycle so this soon won't be an issue. Without rebuilding, yakkety's epiphany, evolution and yelp work fine. I intend to package Evolution 3.22 (yakkety currently has 3.21.91) once wk2 is in yakkety. The evolution package currently has a patch to revert the switch to the 2.14 API and it would be nice to be able to drop this patch instead of having to update it again. I'd like to update Epiphany to 3.22 too. I'm hoping it can fall under the standing UIFE/FF exception granted to other browsers like Chromium and Firefox. [Bug 1625852] [NEW] Providing image sizes with screenshots would allow better dynamic layout
Public bug reported: Currently the click package index has two fields for screenshots - screenshot_url and screenshots_url [1]. They are set like: "screenshot_url": "https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/site_media/appmedia/2013/09/xkcd-1.png";, "screenshot_urls": [ "https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/site_media/appmedia/2013/09/xkcd-1.png"; ], (I'm guessing that screenshot_url is an old field and just screenshot_urls is what should be used in new code). It's desirable when rendering these screenshots in a client (e.g. gnome- software) to know their size in advance. Ideally information like this would be available: "screenshots": [ { "url": "https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/site_media/appmedia/2013/09/xkcd-1.png";, "width": 800, "height": 1280 } ], This allows us to allocate an appropriate amount of space for each screenshot then load them asynchronously. [Bug 1565469] Re: GPS Denied without reason
>From my experience I believe that the issue is triggered by several apps >sharing GPS access. For instance, GPS frequently breaks down with uNav, when other apps access GPS data concurrently. Like: Browser (geolocation, e.g. Google maps), nearby scope, cachemere, etc. I tend to have open a lot of apps in background, many of them acessIng GPS. If I use uNav togetjer with those, it usually works for a few minuites, then freezes an loses GPS. I can resolve this issue by closing all other apps using GPS. After that, uNav works perfect. I.e.: uNav requires exclusive access to GPS in order to work. It breaks as soon as another process requires read access to GPS. There us no logical reason, why not several processes at once should read GPS data (it is read-obky after all). [Bug 1625790] [NEW] Cannot enter character via shift-ctrl-u shortcut

[Bug 1625782] [NEW] adwaita-icon-theme and adwaita-icon-theme-full not available in Trusty
Public bug reported: These packages are either assumed to be installed or expected to be available by other packages. It is the default for many packages. Additionally, the hicolor theme is highly inadequate and missing many default icons. If I'm supposed to be able to develop and build on Windows Linux Subsystem (WLS), then all packages like these need to be available. It really shouldn't be that challenging to make all build libraries and icon packages available in all versions of Ubuntu. I've enabled trusty- updates, trusty-backports, and extras. I may be able to pull icon packages from other versions, but I still may have strange dependency issues. (Sometimes dependencies don't make sense.) Since I'm not dealing with a real Linux kernel, doing a full upgrade is inadvisable. It seems that these icons have been available before, but apt does not give me an alternate package to install the icons. Neither adwaita-icon- theme or adwaita-icon-theme-full are available. It seems the the full theme pulls in the cursors. I've used Ubuntu before and currently dual boot it with Windows. [Bug 1625712] [NEW] Power button no longer opens interactive menu in Xenial
Public bug reported: In gnome-shell, the hardware power button does not open the interactive power menu. It sleeps the computer instead. The configuration backend to customize this behaviour was intentionally removed in commit [50564cde49ca2][1] (for [bug 753713][2]). After [some discussion](https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755953), it's returned in [gnome-settings-daemon 3.20](https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755953#c29). Unfortunately, 3.20 is not in the [16.04 ubuntu repos](https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon) (however there is a 3.20 release for Yakkety 16.10). Can 3.20 be released in xenial-updates? Removing this functionality is a disruptive change and it appears it was introduced in the Xenial LTS release (3.17 was not in Wily). While I understand gnome doesn't follow Ubuntu's stable release strategy and this is one in a large system of applications, can we get gnome- settings-daemon upgraded to 3.20 in Xenial? Use case scenarios for why this is disruptive: * [Accidentally hitting the power button](https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/3oddse/buttonpower_gone_in_318/cvwd2ho) sleeps the computer without recourse. The interactive menu gives you 60 seconds to cancel. * Laptops can already suspend when the lid is closed. While the power button can be configured to hibernate instead of sleep, my laptop does not support hibernate. Now I have a nonfunctional button (when configured to hibernate) or two ways to do the same action. * Laptops with low battery life cannot last long in suspend state. (And again, hibernate does not always work.) * The initial change was made to make the media buttons do what their labels say, but the "power" button no longer controls powering off the machine. Removing "shutdown" from the list of configurations is reasonable on the grounds that it is destructive, but removing "interactive" doesn't follow since it's the least destructive. The power button was the most convenient way to invoke that menu. Thank you for your consideration. [Bug 1625584] [NEW] Removing libnss-* does not remove corresponding options
Public bug reported: libnss-{resolve,mymachines,myhostname} automatically add/remove themselves from /etc/nsswitch.conf on installation/removal. But when (manually) adding NSS action specifiers, these do not get removed along. TEST CASE: * Install libnss-machines. This will change the "hosts" line in /etc/nsswitch.conf from e. g. "files dns" to "files dns mymachines". * Edit the file to add an action specifier: "files dns mymachines [!UNAVAIL=return]" * Remove/purge libnss-machines. * In current xenial (229-4ubuntu7)/yakkety (231-6) the hosts line ends up as "files dns [!UNAVAIL=return]", i. e. the action specifier now applies to "dns" but should have been removed. * With the fixed version, the action specifier is completely gone. * Re-test with installing libnss-resolve (which inserts itself before "dns") and modifying to "files resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns [foo=bar]", then purge libnss-resolve again -- this should again remove the [!UNAVAIL=return] but *NOT* "dns [foo=bar]". ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: In Progress ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: Triaged ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Martin Pitt (pitti) ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-16.09 ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625584 Title: Removing libnss-* does not remove corresponding options To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1625584/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1625449] [NEW] issue with removing apps from the store
You have been subscribed to a public bug: So, the issue is in the general ubuntu software store application, I do no know the exact package information, and did not want to risk getting it wrong. Every time I go to remove an app from within the store, it registers the click, and seems to be working, but then it reloads the page that has all of my installed apps, and then I find the packages STILL there. Sometimes when I remove a package, and the page reloads there is a chance that one of 3 things will happen. 1. The package goes away without any issues 2. the package stays, but the button that I clicked to remove it says 'install'. I assume that is an issue, or some sort of feature to offer reinstallation of the app. 3. The package stays, and still says 'remove' next to it. I think this is the most annoying situation because as mentioned earlier, the page reloads, and when it does that, it puts me back at the very top of the list. So then I have to scroll back down to the app and find that it didn't even go away. ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: software store ubuntu -- issue with removing apps from the store https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625449 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
