[Bug 1635783] [NEW] Regression with suspend 229-4ubuntu4/10 on 32bits old thinkpad t40

2016-10-21 Thread mike
Public bug reported:

(I"m actually on linux mint)

In the live USB and default install, suspend worked correctly
(hibernation didn't). At some point, it stopped working (and hibernation
started working), it just get blocked on a black screen, the laptop is
totally blocked, i have to press the power button.

sudo pm-suspend still works correctly.
systemctl suspend gives the above behavior.

I"m actually on linux mint 18 MATE 32bits, everything upgraded and with
original kernel.
I think it stopped working after the systemd update, still with original
kernel. I tried installing other kernels from the official repos and from
kernel.ubuntu.com, but nothing changed (4.4.1 and 4.8).

I think a regression hapened in systemd somewhere between 229-4ubuntu4(xenial)
and 229-4ubuntu10(xenial)
I couldn't test between 4 and 10.

I can send you logs, if you tell me exactly how and what.

[Bug 1248368] Re: Volume up/down keyboard keys stoped working after gnome-settings-daemon package update

2016-10-21 Thread quequotion
>Nazar
Unfortunately not. That package could be recompiled for newer versions of
Ubuntu, but the code itself is from gnome-settings-daemon 3.6.4 and will never
be updated. It should really be released in it's own PPA, but I could never
grasp debian packaging--it is more difficult to package programs for Ubunu than
to write them.

Some other gnome-derivative desktops have followed gnome's example by
incorporating the media-keys listening service into their own desktop
shell.

[Bug 1635376] Re: double-clicking on an executable created with gcc6 opens an error message

2016-10-21 Thread Hadrien
I did a test. I built the same program with gcc5 and gcc6, then I
compared the output of "readelf -a". It happens that Nautilus is right.
gcc on Ubuntu 16.10 creates a shared library by default instead of an
executable (the Type field in the ELF header is different).

2016-10-21 Thread Hadrien
@Khurshid Alam:
 - a.out has execution permission
 - the expected result is: no error message (I updated the bug description)

Obviously the a.out does nothing. I gave the most minimal way to
reproduce the problem. I could put an example of a program that opens a
window I you think it would make the bug easier to understand.

I have several projects I built recently since I installed Ubuntu 16.10
and they all gave me executables I cannot launch from Nautilus. There is
no problem when I launch them from a terminal.

[Bug 1635677] [NEW] Right click rename: auto emptying file name is counter-productive.

Public bug reported:

When I rename in nautilus, the file name (not including extension name)
will be cleared automatically. It is counter-productive when I want do
make minor change to the file name, for example pluralizing.

Auto clearing the filename do not help users much. If I want to clear

[Bug 1635598] [NEW] Paste into folder option missing on breadcrumb buttons

2016-10-21 Thread Silvio Bierman
Public bug reported:

Clicking the right mouse button on the breadcrumb-buttons that represent
the path to the current folder used to offer on option "Paste into
folder". This options is now gone.

This is extra annoying since the only alternative is right clicking an
EMPTY space in the window area itself. But in the list view mode if the
current folder content fills up the window there is no empty space
anywhere.

Luckily, CTRL+V still works so that is currently the only workaround.

also noticed other things seem weird such as
- shortcut keys are always showing in right click menu (no way to disable this
either!)
- The dividers seem very visually awkward now in the right click menu, on 16.04
is was very flat, now on 16.10 its very deep and gouging to look at.
