[Bug 1670875] [NEW] "Fake" transparency, w/ Flashback session and non-compositing WM, no longer works
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 14.04 and earlier, gnome-terminal's transparent background option works well with gnome-session-flashback and a non-compositing window manager. I actually use xmonad, but metacity --no-composite shows the same behavior: instead of real transparency, the portion of the desktop background corresponding to the terminal window's relative position is drawn as the background, and is updated when the window moves. The attached screenshot demonstrates what this looks like in 14.04 with metacity. In Ubuntu 16.04, this no longer works: a solid black background is displayed instead. However, if I downgrade gnome-terminal to the trusty packages, it works as before. To reproduce: 1. execute sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback 2. log in with 'GNOME Flashback (Metacity)' session 3. start gnome-terminal and set background to transparent 4. execute metacity --no-composite --replace ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: gnome-terminal 3.18.3-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-64.85-generic 4.4.44 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-64-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME-Flashback:GNOME Date: Tue Mar 7 14:52:53 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-02-19 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) SourcePackage: gnome-terminal UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial ** Attachment added: "Screenshot_ubutest-legacy-bios_2017-03-07_14:50:53.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670875/+attachment/4833193/+files/Screenshot_ubutest-legacy-bios_2017-03-07_14%3A50%3A53.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670875 Title: "Fake" transparency, w/ Flashback session and non-compositing WM, no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1670875/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not
I had the exact same problem as described but I am using Arch Linux. I made a simple uninstall with pacman -Rcsn. I know this isn't the same command for ubuntu but just use apt-get autoremove and make sure to add the option that also removes all configuration files. Some times some files are still there. In my case it was in my home folder under .config/nautilus and .local/nautilus both for my user and root. To be sure you have deleted everything I suggest using the command: "find|grep nautilus" under both root and your home to make sure all files are deleted. After that I installed nautilus again. Maybe make a full restart before but I didn't have to. I use Gnome 3 on Arch Linux so hope this maybe apply to you as my discovery makes me think that it might be a fault with configuration files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021375 Title: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1021375/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 209513] Re: After upgrade, "Update standard folders to current language" threatens to rename your home folder
Wow, this bugginess is still around in 16.04. Today after a minor upgrade this offer to change folders came up. I initially declined the offer but when it persisted I accepted and my Download folder with 13 GB of data disappeared - poof - and was replaced with an empty Download folder. Fortunately, after reading the above comments it seemed the data was still around and turned out to be fairly easy to locate. The Download folder was tucked away in Home's .cache folder. A new Download folder had been created, so it was a simple matter to merge the two and everything is now back to normal. [Bug 1668429] Re: X apps (LibreOffice, Thunderbird) fail to launch with failure to open display (no Xmir is running)
Nope, shared Xmir not a solution, we need each client to connect in a separate session, to securely identify it. And there's security considerations for that as well.
