[Bug 1666951] Re: time-admin window doesn't install ntp when prompted

2017-03-28 Thread Paul White
Re Xubuntu, with ISO of 20170328 I'm still not seeing this bug - good!

error message of:

[Bug 1666951] Re: time-admin window doesn't install ntp when prompted

2017-03-28 Thread Paul White
** Description changed:

I'm using Xubuntu 17.04 but I don't think this problem is specific to
  Xubuntu.

By default, "Configuration" in "Time and Date Settings" is set to
"Manual". If I change the option to "Keep synchronized with Internet
servers" I am prompted to "Install NTP support" or to cancel the change.
Obviously this is only when the ntp package isn't already installed.

Clicking on "Install NTP support" displays a notification window to say
that an application is requesting additional packages and that is can be
found in "Software". Clicking on that window brings up gnome-software
which says that the requested package cannot be found.

I'm sure that in the past I was prompted for my administrator password
as would be expected when installing software.

- Although I'm reporting this using a live environment I also saw this
- with my full disk based installation.
+ Recent updates have changed what is seen after asking for ntp to be
+ installed.
+
+ *UPDATE*
+
+ For Xubuntu, the expected dialogs appear and ntp is installed.
+
+ For Lubuntu, an error message is now displayed:
+
+ *Could not install package*
+
+ GDBus.Error:org.freedekstop.org.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: the name
+ org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by an service files

[Bug 1676820] [NEW] systemd-resolved giving false negatives

2017-03-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I was just debugging why so many of my virtual machines have so much trouble in
getting DNS responses and found, that the dnsmasq on the host machine, which is
the DNS resolver for all machines asks the three (!) name servers given in
/etc/resolv.conf, which is the regular two DNS resolvers from the LAN and
127.0.0.53 where systemd-resolved is running.

So every time dnsmasq is asking this systemd-resolved (in about one in
three queries) it happens often, not always, that systemd-resolved is
giving false negatives.

I currently do not see why systemd should bring it's own DNS resolver at all,
and even worse, force that into /etc/resolv.conf, causing lots of trouble with
false replies.

That's just another chapter of the intrusive natur of systemd.

What the hell should such a third nameserver be good for?

[Bug 1663725] Re: root on raid device doesn't get /dev/disk/by-id/md-{name, uuid} symlinks after boot

2017-03-28 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
There are a lot of custom udev rules

CustomUdevRuleFiles: main_disk-part1.rules.rules third_disk.rules.rules
md0.rules.rules second_disk-part1.rules.rules second_disk.rules.rules
third_disk-part1.rules.rules main_disk-part2.rules.rules
fourth_disk.rules.rules fourth_disk-part1.rules.rules
main_disk.rules.rules

Can you attach them?

Are all of those included in the initramfs as well? (check with e.g.
lsinitramfs)

The md-name and md-uuid symlinks are generated by the udev rules shipped
by the mdadm package.

[Bug 1676912] [NEW] Suspend - Freezing of tasks failed

2017-03-28 Thread Daniel Holz
Public bug reported:

Recently I replaced Ubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 with Ubuntu
Gnome 17.04 and since then sometimes my Laptop won't suspend when I
close the lid. The power led does not blink like it is supposed to do
and when I open the Laptop the lockscreen appears but freezes after a
short time, followed by a blackscreen until eventually it reappears and
allows me to unlock it. After that certain application can not be
started anymore and would freeze if they were running before. These
include Chrome, Gedit and Gnome System Monitor for example. Also my
Laptop will not connect to my WLAN until I restart it.

In syslog I found the line:

"Freezing of tasks failed after 20.005 seconds (18 tasks refusing to
freeze, wq_busy=0):"

According to syslog

network-nanaeger
whoopsie
cups-browsed
wpa-supplicant
geoclue
packagekitd
several evolution-related processes
goa-daemon
gnome-software
geary
dropbox
deja-dup-monitor

are responsible.
I tried disabling some of them, but it did not solve the problem.

[Bug 1677035] [NEW] GUI: SMART-information and selftests window unable to resize window to read text

2017-03-28 Thread Damiön la Bagh
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
* In the Gnome Disk Utility
* Select any drive supporting SMART
* click on the gear icon
* Choose SMART Info and Selftests
* Click on the dividing line between Attribute and Value
* Try to drag left or right in order to be able to read the Attribute
* Doesn't budge.
* Try to grab the bottom right corner of the window to increase it's size so
you can read the darn thing.
* Doesn't budge.

The window seems to be stuck at 950x500 pixels making the contents of
the window unreadable in languages with long words like Dutch and
German.

Please let the user of the computer decide how large or small they want the
window.
There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all in computer graphical interfaces.

Oh and see the screenshot for the example.

179 used-res...csk-total ?
181 program...unt-total ??

And before you say just mouse over.
tried that get the message:
"There is no description for Attribute 179"
Thanks but just make the window resizeable please.

Thanks!

[Bug 1594989] Re: Turn off screen after n minutes does not work in Ubuntu 16.04

2017-03-28 Thread jd
I have run into this problem as well. The "inactive" in "Turn screen off
when inactive for" is a bit misleading: it's not directly about the user
being inactive.

For example: Playing an HTML5-YouTube Video in Firefox will delay the turning
off of the screen until the video is finished playing. (This is nice, because
you don't have to bump the mouse periodically if you're watching a long video.)
However, this is not the behavior when playing a Flash-Video in Firefox. In
that case, the screen will start turning off when the set timer is expired. My
speculation is that Firefox takes some kind of "lock" and prevents Unity from
turning off the screen but the Flash-Plugin does not (or Firefox doesn't in
that case?)

I suspect that after being suspended and resumed a couple of times something
goes wrong with this feature (until reboot.) Some application (Firefox in my
case probably) does not properly release the "lock" and the screen always stays
on.

[Bug 1677042] [NEW] Grub recovery boot root prompt is unstable

2017-03-28 Thread Kevin O'Gorman
Public bug reported:

I've seen this on two systems: Xubuntu on dual Xeons, and Ubuntu on an
I-7.

When I choose "advanced options" -> "recovery mode" in Grub, and then
"root shell prompt" in the resulting booted system, I cannot expect it
to be functional for long.

I can do a few things, but even if I do nothing, it can break in a way
that takes it back to the place where I selected "root shell prompt" but
it is completely unresponsive to the keyboard or mouse. Or nearly so.
I can get a reboot with the three-finger-salute. Usually.

Even without that, I've been interrupted by status messages garbling the
screen and other stuff I'd love to suppress. At least usually, I would.
I'd like some control.

When I'm already fighting system problems, this is even more annoying
than usual, but it happens on healthy systems too.

Building in my PPA with -O0 for arm64 fixes the problem, and I've
uploaded 25.1+1-3ubuntu4 with this change, so hopefully that will clear
it once it's approved.

[Bug 1133477] Re: cut-n-paste move files got stuck forever

2017-03-28 Thread ssinfod
I also have this problem with Ubuntu 16.04.

uname -a
Linux cpf-dx4840-i3 4.8.0-44-generic #47~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 22 18:51:56
UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Nautilus 3.14.3

I simply drag and drop files from a folder to another. The folder contains:
(84 PNG (pictures) files of approx. 3 MB and one PDF file (250 MB))

The dialog box shows "Preparing to move N files" (ex: 26)

Then it jams for about 2 minutes...

thanks

[Bug 1133477] Re: cut-n-paste move files got stuck forever

2017-03-28 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I see no clear test case bug triagers can try to do further research on.
I have no information from syslog, dmesg, or any tracing or anything. Is
this only with images? What's the minimum number or size? I would this
this has something to do with a generic Backend, so we should look for
conditions that are universal across all file managers. Please provide
this so we can continue researching. If there's no clear way to
reproduce, no matter how often this happen or how long it's reported, we
cannot fix this.
