[Bug 1688689] [NEW] Owner and group of few folders from Bind directory visible as nobody/nogroup within nspawn container

2017-05-05 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Owner and group of few folders from Bind directory visible as
nobody/nogroup when I check permission from within nspawn container.

Create testing.nspawn:

[Files]
Bind=/patch/to/folder
Use some folder with many subfolders, to expand the test coverage. Check if
owners of all subfolders in Bind directory inside container is the same as on
host.

Issue is reproducible in Ubuntu Server 17.04 (systemd 232) and Ubuntu
Server 17.10 (systemd 233).

Confirm this passes on zesty

In addition to the requested test cases, I also tested my original use
case,

* download a .deb pkg for software not included in ubuntu release - GitKraken
v2.5.0 in this case (v.2.5.0.deb)
* open up Home/Desktop folder in Gnome file manager GUI
* double-click on a non-ubuntu .deb package
* once Software app opens up, click on Install button
* Installation proceeded correctly as expected
* Prior to this bug fix, clicking on Install resulted in no behavior at all

[Bug 1688407] Re: Snap title field reverted to summary

2017-05-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-software into zesty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
software/3.22.7-0ubuntu3.17.04.2 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1586657] Re: Touchpad gsettings being ignored

2017-05-05 Thread Jeremy Bicha
According to the announcement at
https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/ubuntu/gnome3-staging/
the GNOME3 Staging PPA is no longer supported for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. If you have
the PPA enabled on that release, please ppa-purge. Then you can optionally
remain on 16.04 LTS or upgrade to a newer Ubuntu version if you want newer
GNOME versions.

Ubuntu GNOME itself does not have this bug.

For the remaining issue of GNOME touchpad settings not working correctly
when xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is installed on Ubuntu GNOME 16.10+,
see https://launchpad.net/bugs/1686081 Due to the nature of that bug, I
don't think it will be possible to fix that in current Ubuntu stable
releases.

[Bug 1688391] Re: Highlight of links in terminal is retarded

2017-05-05 Thread teo1978
This is not a matter of "having to be heuristic", this is plain wrong.
Here you are matching something that can be easily ruled out by a non-
heuristic rule without introducing any false negative, so it IS
retarded.

How can this possibly make sense:
  example.com/foo/bar => not an URL
  wwwexamplecom/foo/bar => URL

What's the rationale? Ok, I see, it seems to be "ANYTHING that starts with
www". Even "wwwlalala" is highlighted as a url.
That's just plain stupid (sorry, it's just a fact, and note that I AM being
constructive by pointing out a stupid error that can easily be fixed). There's
no way that something that doesn't even contain a dot can be an absolute url
(detecting relative urls would make no sense, right?)

At the very least, the "starts with www" criteria should be changed to
"starts with www, optionally followed by letters, numbers, dashes and
underscores, followed by a dot" (and then at least a non-space
character).

This would eliminate a lot of false positives with no single added false
negative, and it's trivial.

My apologizes,

gnome-software 3.22.7

Downloaded Opera from their site. Installed deb package directly from
firefox using "Open" instead of "Save" in download options. Gnome-
Software opened and installed the application correctly

Installed Discord canary's deb file from ~/Downloads via Nautilus. This
also installed as expected.

Neither scenario worked with earlier versions of gnome-software.

Vague Entertainment, thank you for taking the time to help make Ubuntu
better. Could you be a bit more specific for the benefit of the Stable
Release Update Team?

What specific version of gnome-software did you test? What did you do to
test it?

2017-05-05 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Could you explain how this escape-sequence works? Does it set true value to the
alternate_screen_scroll flag in libvte?
Does this ecape secuence substitutes option about alternate screen which was in

[Bug 1688528] Re: gnome-terminal with screen interprets mouse wheel events as up/down

2017-05-05 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Hmmm, it's hard for me to imagine why/how this could happen. Input
parsing should be independent of what's on the screen.

Anyway, I'm sorry I couldn't help with the escape sequence. I'm
personally out of here (I'm not an Ubuntu developer but a gnome-terminal
one; I'm happy to join again if an issue is reproducible with a much
more recent gnome-terminal even after emitting the said escape
sequence).

No, this escape sequence doesn't change anything.
One more clarification: problem appears only when output on the screen fills
all rows, i.e. when you output at least one screen of rows.

[Bug 1688391] Re: Highlight of links in terminal is retarded

2017-05-05 Thread Egmont Koblinger
> as if it was an URL, which it obviously isn't

Obviously to the human eye. Not so obviously to computer algorithms.

> It is questionable in the first place that you try to parse urls that
don't start with a schema.

Indeed questionable. Which does not necessarily mean it's bad. It's a
convenience feature, and URLs pretty often appear without schema.
Probably not recognizing them would lead to way more feature requests
and complaints than a few false positive matches.

> But in any case, you need to fix your regular expression I guess

"fix" in what sense exactly?

> I see now that even wwwXexampleYcom gets recognized as an URL

URLs often begin with www5 or similar strings which are intentionally
recognized. Not sure where to draw the line which additional characters
and how many of them to accept.

> Looks like somebody forgot to escape a "." in a regular expression.

Nope. As said, the given behavior is intentional. Also, the regular
expression is backed up by more than a hundred unittests.

Sure there is room for improvement, but any such request should be
constructive, and should definitely refrain from calling an algorithm
that by its nature needs to have heuristics "retarded".

[Bug 1688528] Re: gnome-terminal with screen interprets mouse wheel events as up/down

2017-05-05 Thread Egmont Koblinger
gnome-terminal / vte changed its behavior around that time. There was
also quite a bit of confusion caused by a downstream ubuntu patch and
removal also around that time.

I'm not sure what's 14.04's behavior, but in newer Ubuntus (e.g. 16.04)
you can disable alternate screen scrolling with the DECRESET 1007 escape
sequence, that is:

echo -ne '\e[?1007l'

Maybe it already works in 14.04, please try it.

2017-05-05 Thread Guram Savinov
** Description changed:

Bug is based on my last comments from
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/screen/+bug/106995

  Environment:
  Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
  gnome-terminal 3.6.2
  libvte 0.34.9
  screen 4.1.0

  The problem is:
  1. screen is running from gnome-terminal
  2. mouse wheel scrolling generates up/down events which ends up as bash
history scrolling instead of gnome-terminal history scrolling
  3. if run cat command, then mouse wheel ends up as esc-keys:
^[[A^[[A^[[A^[[A^[[B^[[B^[[B^[[B^[[B

Gnome-terminal's option about alternate screen is not working anymore in
trusty ubuntu release, but it has been working in precise release.
As I said in bug 106995: gnome-terminal's option about alternatre screen
doesn't do anything with vte, so it's useless, but if I understand this patch
in vte right it set alternate screen option true value on initialization
automatically.

+ gnome-terminal calls vte_terminal_reset in terminal-window.c which set
+ alternate screen flag to true, it's strange that it doesn't work.
+
I suspect that problem is in gnome-terminal, because this problem
doesn't exists in screen run from xterm or rxvt terminal.
