This appears to still be an issue in Ubuntu 17.10. Although that might
just be because libdrm on my machine reports "unknown" subpixel ordering
for my monitor. So greyscale is the correct fallback...

[Bug 1691289] Re: gnome desktop session segfaulted

2017-05-16 Thread Thomas Mayer
unattended upgrades did an upgrade this morning:

libgdm1

That could be the reason for this issue. Eventually, a restart of the
display manager would have avoided this issue after the update.

I'll track this issue for some time and see if it reappears after a
reboot and in regular execution (without update behind the scenes).

[Bug 1691289] [NEW] gnome desktop session segfaulted

2017-05-16 Thread Thomas Mayer
Public bug reported:

My gnome desktop session just segfaulted or somehow crashed. Before the
crash, the desktop session was running for hours, it even survived
several s2ram's during the past days.

I did not have these issues for a long time.

My syslog shows up a lot of errors around the crash, not sure which one
actually is responsible for the crash.

Something I noticed is that my bluetooth headset got disconnected for no
reason a few seconds before the crash. And a few seconds before the
bluetooth headset got disconnected, a youtube live video (rather audio
than video) ended expectedly.

2017-05-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Vincent, is it at all possible for you to test Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 before
and after this proposed fix? I don't have the hardware to verify your
fix and the Ubuntu Stable Release Update team really likes for bugfixes
to be verified.

[Bug 1683445] Re: E6430 brightness control not working

2017-05-16 Thread Vincent Gerris
Hi,

This is what I get now when I try the dev package from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/amd64/gnome-settings-
daemon/3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1

sudo dpkg -i gnome-settings-daemon_3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1_amd64.deb

(Reading database ... 354908 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack gnome-settings-daemon_3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking gnome-settings-daemon (3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1) over (3.24.0-0ubuntu2) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of gnome-settings-daemon:
 gnome-settings-daemon depends on gnome-settings-daemon-schemas (=
3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1); however:
Version of gnome-settings-daemon-schemas on system is 3.24.0-0ubuntu2.

dpkg: error processing package gnome-settings-daemon (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for hicolor-icon-theme (0.15-1) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 gnome-settings-daemon

so I downloaded that from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/amd64/gnome-settings-daemon-schemas/3.24.2-0ubuntu0.1
and installed it.

Then I rebooted but there is not difference in behaviour.

Note that I use Unity, not Gnome.

When I installed these packages:
http://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1683445/
it worked.

Thank you all!

[Bug 1686257] Re: gdm3 fails to start when default session-name=ubuntu

2017-05-16 Thread Johon Doee
The update to gdm3 - 3.24.1-0ubuntu0.1 is just crap.

It's not possible anymore to switch users. It just shows a black screen when
using the user switch button.
Also logging out to the login screen also shows a black screen.
service gdm3 restart does not bring the login screen back.

Why are updates are not tested before they got uploaded?

Using Ubuntu Gnome, Zesty and Intel Skylake graphics.

[Bug 1690964] Re: All Settings in Gnome Shell is missing 'Software & Updates' icon

2017-05-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I feel it's more important that we integrate well in the new desktop
than just copying something we did before. But I'll add the tag so that
it shows up on the list of bugs we are tracking for 17.10 and so we can
see what the rest of the Desktop Team wants to do.

[Bug 1652466] Re: Totem can't play videos on Gallium graphics without mesa-va-drivers

2017-05-16 Thread Amr Ibrahim
** Description changed:

- What is the problem:
+ Impact
+ ---
Totem can't play videos if gstreamer1.0-vaapi is installed on Gallium
graphics in Xenial because mesa-va-drivers is not installed as a dependency of
va-driver-all.

Here is the dependency chain in Xenial:
  gstreamer1.0-vaapi Depends on libva1
  libva1 Recommends va-driver-all
- va-driver-all Depends on i965-va-driver vdpau-va-driver (no mesa-va-drivers!)
+ va-driver-all Depends on i965-va-driver vdpau-va-driver (no mesa-va-drivers)
+
+ This is fixed in version 1.7.0-2 in Debian and Yakkety.
+ libva (1.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium
+
+ * debian/control:
+ - Add mesa-va-drivers as alternative to Depends of va-driver-all.
+ - Bump Standards-Versions.
+
+ -- Sebastian Ramacher Wed, 11 May 2016 17:32:06
+ +0200
+
+
+ Test case
+ --
+ - Purge va-driver-all and mesa-va-drivers if already installed
+ - Install va-driver-all from xenial-proposed
+ - Make sure that mesa-va-drivers is pulled in
+ - Play videos in Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi installed and make sure that
videos play nicely.

Here is the terminal output of Totem (with gstreamer1.0-vaapi installed and
no mesa-va-drivers):
  :~$ totem
Stream with high frequencies VQ coding
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/radeonsi_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/gallium_drv_video.so
  libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
  libva info: VA-API version 0.39.0
  libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0

When mesa-va-drivers is installed, Totem plays videos just fine.

- This is fixed in version 1.7.0-2 in Debian and Yakkety.
- libva (1.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

- * debian/control:
- - Add mesa-va-drivers as alternative to Depends of va-driver-all.
- - Bump Standards-Versions.
+ Regression potential
+ -
+ Since there are no code changes at all, I cannot think of any regressions.

[Bug 1643134] Re: Switch gnome-software to use PackageKit backend

2017-05-16 Thread Matthias Klumpp
@robert-ancell: Awesome! You can probably just copy the Debconf bits from GNOME
Software, tbh I am a bit surprised that this wasn't there before...
Might be worth fixing in Debian for the next release as well, or backporting at
least.
