[Bug 1718566] [NEW] Private folder appears on desktop.

2017-09-20 Thread jeremy-list
Public bug reported:

To replicate:
1: Set up encryptfs to mount automatically on $HOME/Private
2: Log in using any desktop environment which uses Nautilus to manage the
desktop icons.

Expected results:
My private folder should not appear on the desktop unless I explicitly link it.

Actual results:
My private folder is displayed as an icon on the desktop, and if I open my home
directory in Nautilus there is a disk emblem on my private folder. Both of
these are regressions.

[Bug 1718553] Re: gnome-session-properties doesn't recognize Ubuntu session as GNOME

2017-09-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

From a clean Ubuntu 17.10 install, open Startup Applications.

"SSH Key Agent" should show up but "Print Queue Applet" should not.

  /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop has OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;MATE;
  /etc/xdg/autostart/print-applet.desktop has
NotShowIn=KDE;GNOME;Cinnamon;LXDE;Unity;

  XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP is set to ubuntu:GNOME.
+
+ I believe we'll need to rewrite the gsp_key_file_get_shown function in
+ revert_remove_gnome_session_properties.patch.

  Other Info
  ==
Generally, Startup Applications should be empty in a new install. An
exception was made for gnome-keying's ssh agent since that is apparently a
popular thing to disable and there is no other GUI way to disable it in the
default Ubuntu install.

[Bug 1718453] Re: Cannot install steam on a clean 16.04.3 machine

2017-09-20 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
I tested on both amd64 and i386 as detailed in the linked post in the
original description. I installed both amd64 and i386 variants of Ubuntu
16.04.3 in parallel in separate VMs and experienced (from a user
perspective) the same issue. The difference being what appstreamcli
returns on each...

On amd64:-

alan@cleanamd64:~$ appstreamcli search steam
Identifier: ri-li.desktop [desktop-application]
Name: Ri-li
Summary: a toy simulator game
Package: ri-li

On i386:-

alan@cleani386:~$ appstreamcli search steam

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade is unable to automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software.

2017-09-20 Thread Brian Murray
I found the description somewhat confusing because 'Unattended-Upgrade
::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true"; doesn't actually exist in
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades, rather that's the default
setting in unattended-upgrades since 0.90. Regardless, I was able to
recreate the issue on an Ubuntu 16.04 system via the following
procedure.

1) Use apt-get install to install a new kernel (linux-image-generic)
2) Run unattended-upgrades (observe "no pending auto-removals")

However, running 'sudo apt autoremove' does want to remove an old
kernel.

[Bug 1718453] Re: Cannot install steam on a clean 16.04.3 machine

2017-09-20 Thread Robert Ancell
Looking in /var/lib/apt/lists I have:

archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_binary-amd64_Packages
archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_binary-i386_Packages
archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_dep11_Components-amd64.yml.gz
archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_dep11_icons-64x64.tar.gz
archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en
archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_xenial_multiverse_source_Sources

So it appears the i386 dep11 data is not there. Perhaps it is an APT
issue that is not pulling it down?

As regards the docs, this won't be reflected in the desktop guide in

at the ubuntu-translators list, and they seem to be justified, which
would make it fine from a translators POV as well.

[Bug 1718413] [NEW] GNOME Shell suspend button extensions no longer work

2017-09-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Try installing a GNOME Shell extension [1] that's supposed to add a
functioning suspend button to the user menu. What you'll find is the
button is there but clicking on it seems to do nothing. Suspend still
works for me though if I configure suspend to trigger when I press my
physical power button on my desktop in the power settings. These suspend
button extensions used to work just fine up until about 3 weeks ago.

[Bug 1718083] Re: UIFe: Add Additional Printer Settings button

2017-09-20 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
The Ubuntu Desktop Team would like to add a button to the "Printers" part of
the Settings app (gnome-control-center) named "Additional Printer Settings"
that will open system-config-printer. system-config-printer has been part of
the Ubuntu default install for years.

  Justification
  ==
The GNOME integrated Printer Settings is nice but it still misses a few
settings that were easily configurable in Ubuntu 17.04. The most prominent
missing settings is Printer Sharing. See GNOME upstream bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/692532

Hopefully, we can drop the button before 18.04 LTS is released.

[Bug 1571540] Re: Moving files nautilus extremely slow

2017-09-20 Thread sillyxone
Not sure what happened or whoever did the magic, but the problem is gone
on Ubuntu 16.04, somewhere between the end of August and the first two
weeks of September. Moving images are as fast as it used to be (and
should be). I tested moving 1,000+ JPG files several times and it
happened instantly. It used to show "Preparing to move files ..." for a
few minutes, even with just 100 image files.

Anyway, would be great if a dev can drop an explanation. Otherwise,
people please test/verify and we can close this ticket then.

[Bug 1718453] [NEW] Cannot install steam on a clean 16.04.3 machine

2017-09-20 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

I noticed the following community member had a problem installing steam.
I reproduced it on 16.04.3 clean install i386 and amd64.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24NH3Ry22Dg

Install 16.04 amd64 or i386
Install all updates via software updater
Open Ubuntu Software
Search for steam.

No results for Steam found.
Yet steam is in the repository as an i386 deb - but it doesn't show up in

[Bug 1718446] [NEW] Ensure wayland -> xorg fallabck to the corresponding session

2017-09-20 Thread Didier Roche
Public bug reported:

Use case:
1. install gnome-session or gnome-classic or unity, you will end up with
additional xorg session.
2. Log in on a system you don't have wayland capability

-> you will be fallback to a random xorg session, being vanilla gnome,
or ubuntu-xorg, or gnome-classic or even unity.

-> we should insert "-xorg" flavor for current session on fallback to
get that one on the stack and ensuring we possibly fallback to a
compatible session.

[Bug 1718443] [NEW] Nautilus becomes unresponsive for several seconds when cutting or copying a file

2017-09-20 Thread Nicolás Abel Carbone
Public bug reported:

When cutting coping a file (by selecting it and clicking "Cut" or "Copy"
on the context menu or by using the Ctrl+X or CTRL+C shortcut) nautilus
becomes unresponsive for several seconds. I cannot even move the

[Bug 1718444] [NEW] systemd-sysctl in Xenial is not obeying the order of the sysctls

2017-09-20 Thread Philipp Kern
Public bug reported:

systemd-sysctl in Xenial forces itself over procps by shipping a link
for procps.service to systemd-sysctl.service. However, it does not obey
the order both of the files and also of the sysctls within the files.
Instead it uses a simple hashmap. As it turns out that's fixed upstream
and systemd master uses an ordered hashmap because of this, which at
least preserves order within single files. Traditionally files in
sysctl.d have been prefixed with numbers to ensure an order and that's
now completely non-deterministic on Xenial.

Relevant upstream commit:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/886cf982d3018f7451f0548dadbc05bd2d583bb6

Note that conf_files_list_nulstr in master sorts the configuration files
using strcmp, so even order of configuration files should be obeyed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1718371] [NEW] Reboot hangs forever because /bin/systemctl --force reboot fails with "Failed to execute operation: Connection timed out"

2017-09-20 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug reported:

This morning unattended-upgrades had a reboot scheduled for 6:30 AM.
The reboot process succeeded in turning off all network access but
failed to actually reboot. As far as I can tell, this is because

Sep 20 06:50:44 fridge systemd[1]: Starting Reboot...
Sep 20 06:51:09 fridge systemctl[3886]: Failed to execute operation:
Connection timed out
Sep 20 06:53:54 fridge systemd[1]: systemd-reboot.service: Main process
exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Sep 20 06:53:54 fridge systemd[1]: Failed to start Reboot.
Sep 20 06:53:54 fridge systemd[1]: systemd-reboot.service: Unit entered
failed state.
Sep 20 06:53:54 fridge systemd[1]: systemd-reboot.service: Failed with
result 'exit-code'.

(Don't ask me why it took 20 minutes to get to this point. Most
everything was already shut down by 06:35.)

After this the journal shows a few other random-looking service messages

Sep 20 07:13:44 fridge systemd[1]: Stopping LVM2 metadata daemon...
Sep 20 07:13:44 fridge systemd[1]: Stopped LVM2 metadata daemon.
Sep 20 07:51:48 fridge systemd[1]: Started LVM2 metadata daemon.
Sep 20 07:51:48 fridge systemd[1]: Stopped target Shutdown.

and the end of a cron session that initiated the unattended-upgrade
shutdown -r 06:30 call, presumably

Sep 20 07:52:54 fridge CRON[1176]: pam_unix(cron:session): session
closed for user root

and then the machine sat idle waiting for keyboard input, which I
provided in the form of Alt+SysRq+S,U,B a few hours later.

- Click is focus or showing up window previews. Same than Super + number

- Shift + click launch a new instance. Same than Super + Shift + number

[Bug 1712698] Re: Uninstalling Dash To Dock does not restore Ubuntu Dock

2017-09-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock -

  * Cherry-pick dynamic and adaptive transparency feature to look and behave
better with GNOME Shell 3.26. We only enable adaptive transparency.
(LP: #1717509).
  * Rationalize some keyboard and key + mouse shortcuts:
- Click is focus or showing up window previews. Same than Super + number
  (was already the default)
- Shift + click launch a new instance. Same than Super + Shift + number
- Middle click launch a new instance as well. This is to be consistent
when middle clicking a link in a web browser opening a new tab.
- Shift + middle click minimize the last focused window from the selected
  application.
  * Cherry-pick some fixes from dash to dock branch (without taking the other
new features):
- Hotkeys: remove keypad hotkeys
- Define externally accessible classes and constants with 'var'
  * Fix uninitialized value for dock disabled by default
(LP: #1712698, #1714219)

[Bug 1713621] Re: Suggestion: Move the Show Applications icon to the top of the dock

2017-09-20 Thread Didier Roche
We discussed it at GUADEC and the application button doesn't do the same
than the BFB. In addition, the proximity with Activities will be
puzzling to the users and deviates from GNOME Shell upstream Dash
experience. Setting as invalid.

[Bug 1711377] Re: Nautilus desktop mode should relearn handling a dock nicely

2017-09-20 Thread Didier Roche
I am unduplicating that one as it was for intellihide as well. Keeping
the intellihide part here.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1696621
Desktop icons slip under the top bar and dock

** Summary changed:

- Nautilus desktop mode should relearn handling a dock nicely
+ Nautilus desktop mode should relearn handling a dock nicely in intellihide

** Description changed:

- Two fixes that we brought in 11.04 for Unity should be brought back to
Nautilus:
- * Icons aren't correctly placed in desktop until a first refresh (Nautilus
doesn't take care of workspace size hints before refresh). The icons are thus
below the panel and dock (when dock is always visible)
- * When dock is in intellihide mode, the icons are aligned below the dock when
visible. We should teach nautilus to take into account icon dock size in that
mode and shift them.
+ When dock is in intellihide mode, the icons are aligned below the dock
+ when visible. We should teach nautilus to take into account icon dock
+ size in that mode and shift them.

[Bug 1717781] Re: Gnome session logs out unespectadly while using it

2017-09-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Do you use the xorg or wayland session?
Do you have any error in /var/crash? Could you add your syslog to the
bug after getting the issue? (the journal log from apport is filtered
and doesn't include the errors, unsure if that means there are none or
if they are filtered out)
