[Bug 399974] Re: 'Keep Aligned' option always resets to 'true' after desktop reload

2017-10-06 Thread Laran Truxillo
This is still an issue on the latest version of Mint. I am running Mint
18.2 Cinnamon 64Bit. Every single time I restart my computer, restart
x-server, logout of a user profile, or do a hard shut down, the desktop
icons revert from my meticulous arrangement to alphabetically aligned to
a grid. It is incredibly annoying.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Yep, suspicious indeed. I built gdm3 with that function disabled:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/gdm3

And yes, that's it. You nailed it Olivier; thanks a lot!

Why didn't I see it when looking at that file many months ago... :(
Anyway, I have submitted a MP.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I added a FOOBAR variable to both ~/.pam_environment and
/etc/default/locale, with different values in each file, and after
logging in the value is the one from ~/.pam_environment. So I don't
think gdm sources /etc/default/locale after ~/.pam_environment. However
variables LANG, LANGUAGE and LC_* appear to be overridden by the values
in /etc/default/locale, and set_up_session_language() in daemon/gdm-
session.c (https://git.gnome.org/browse/gdm/tree/daemon/gdm-
session.c#n2488) looks suspicious in that regard.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
/etc/pam.d/gdm-launch-environment is run as user gdm, so it's not what
we're interested in.

/etc/pam.d/gdm-password appears to be what sets the environment upon
user login.

When adding some logging to that module, I'm seeing the following:

pam_env(gdm-password:session): username=ubuntu
pam_env(gdm-password:session): user env path: /home/ubuntu/.pam_environment
pam_env(gdm-password:session): parsing config file
pam_env(gdm-password:session): remove variable "LANGUAGE=fr_FR:en_GB:en"
pam_env(gdm-password:session): remove variable "LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8"

It turns out, "VARIABLE=value" is not the correct syntax for
~/.pam_environment. The expected syntax is "VARIABLE [DEFAULT=[value]]
[OVERRIDE=[value]]" (man pam_env.conf).
And indeed if I modify ~/.pam_environment to conform to that syntax, I'm seeing
this instead:

pam_env(gdm-password:session): pam_putenv("LANGUAGE=fr_FR:en_GB:en")
pam_env(gdm-password:session): pam_putenv("LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8")

That doesn't seem to fix the overall issue though, as the values of
LANGUAGE and LANG are still those from /etc/default/locale after logging
in.

[Bug 1717923] Re: 17.10 GNOME: Unable to log in: invalid monitor configuration, Logical monitors not adjecent

2017-10-06 Thread Treviño
So the commit
https://github.com/GNOME/mutter/commit/43eeb009ce78588db9fba48574f377629d5de1aa
avoids invalid configurations to be migrated. As for the crash nor me or
Jonas can reproduce it.

I've tried to get informations from the coredump, but it doesn't contain
any information about the packages versions, so I can't get the proper
stacktrace out of it.

seems that somebody already did some similar code, so I presume the bug

Here one can see that the UDEV rules files are correct, leading to the
correct systemd services being requested

SYSTEMD_WANTS=ippusbxd@002:033.service udev-configure-printer@-devices-
pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service printer.target

but neither the service ippusbxd@002:033.service nor the service udev-
configure-printer@-devices-pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service
get started (note that I have put the .service file for ippusbxd in
place by "sudo cp /usr/share/doc/ippusbxd/examples/ippusbxd@.service
/lib/systemd/system/").

I can start each of these services manually though:

sudo systemctl start 'udev-configure-printer@-devices-
pci:00-:00:14.0-usb2-2\x2d2.service'

sudo systemctl start ippusbxd@002:033.service

In each case ippusbxd gets started for this printer and a print queue
auto-created.

What I expect is that the services get automatically started (and that
worked in 17.04) so that after plugging in an USB printer I can
immediately print as the print queue gets created automatically.

The "udev-configure-printer..." service works for all USB printers, not
only IPP-over-USB (it automatically recognizes the printer typ and does
an appropriate setup).

This is a regression as we had always automatic setup of USB printers.

[Bug 1721833] [NEW] Can't type numbers in the evolution search box

2017-10-06 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

Trying to type numeric characters into the evolution search box is not
working when using the numeric keys above the letters on the keyboard.
Shift+numeric key for a special symbol works, and then numpad keys work,
but the "regular" number keys don't appear to do anything.

[Bug 1721718] Re: Segmentation fault in meta_monitor_mode_get_resolution

2017-10-06 Thread Michael Thayer
Gianfranco suggested off-Launchpad that I test the most recent version
of libmutter (3.26.1), as it looks from the source as though this issue
is fixed there. I will report back in a few days (I generally suspend
and resume without restarting my session, so it will be a while until I
start using the new library). Until then and unless I see otherwise
let's assume that 3.26.1 fixes this.

[Bug 1721718] Re: Segmentation fault in meta_monitor_mode_get_resolution

2017-10-06 Thread LocutusOfBorg
thanks for the bug/patch, two things:
1) the patch seems to be reversed :p
2) what about putting the if statement inside calculate_scale call?
static float
calculate_scale (MetaMonitor *monitor,
 MetaMonitorMode *monitor_mode)
{
  int resolution_width, resolution_height;
  int width_mm, height_mm;
  int scale;

  scale = 1.0;
+  if (!monitor_mode)
+   goto out;
  meta_monitor_mode_get_resolution (monitor_mode,

this way the scale will be set to 1.0 in case monitor_mode is NULL.
(I followed the calls,
meta_monitor_calculate_mode_scale -> calculate_scale and this return of 1.0 in
case of errors seems to be a safer solution, by just looking at the code.)

If Jeremy agrees, and you report he patch upstream, I think we can
upload to artful.

I uploaded the "fix" (my version, I didn't test/check it for buildability) in
my ppa

Because upstream is thinking a better way to do this. But that won't
happen in one day and require some other changes from pulseaudio,
according to Bastien Nocera. Meanwhile downstream can patch it. When
upstream fixes it, we will drop the patch.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
In /etc/pam.d/gdm-launch-environment:

session requiredpam_env.so readenv=1 user_readenv=1
envfile=/etc/default/locale

In pam_env.c (handle_env function), the env should be set from
/etc/default/locale and then overridden by ~/.pam_environment. If I add
the 'debug' parameter to the module invokation, I see only the calls to
pam_putenv corresponding to /etc/default/locale, which means that for
some reason to be determined ~/.pam_environment is not being sourced.

Another way to do this:
1. Install GNOME Tweaks (gnome-tweak-tool)
2. Open the Tweaks app
3. Switch to the Keyboard & Mouse panel
4. Click Additional Layout Options
5. Use the "Switching to another layout" section

[Bug 1721771] [NEW] UI hangs when several snaps are removed successively

2017-10-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

Test Case
1. Install several snaps and restart gnome-software to make sure it is in a
clean state
2. Select a snap, and remove it
3. Without waiting for the operation to finish, go back to the main page and
select another one
4. Remove it
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 several times

Actual result
A spinner is displayed on the "details" page and it never loads although the
rest of the UI is still responsive

Expected result
For all the snap the details page is loaded successfully and the snaps can be
removed

[Bug 1709562] Re: keyboard panel does not allow to set up Caps as input switch

2017-10-06 Thread shnireck
Found a workaround for this bug:

1. Install dconf-editor (sudo apt-get install dconf-editor)
2. Go to /org/gnome/desktop/wm/keybindings/
3. Select key switch-input-source, turn off "Use default value" and set "Custom
value" to ['Caps_Lock']
4. (Optional) You can also change value for switch-input-source-backward to
something like ['Caps_Lock'] (again, turning off "Use default value")

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I didn't click "Apply System-Wide". When I changed the language in g-c-c
/etc/default/locale was written to (LANG and LANGUAGE were updated). I
agree that this is unexpected behaviour though, I wouldn't expect the
current user's setting to be applied system-wide unless explicitly
requested.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
To clarify: I used the g-c-c interface to switch language. If I had
clicked "Manage Installed Languages" to open Language Support and then
clicked "Apply System-Wide", /etc/default/locale would have been updated
too. But that 'does not count'. Language Support is available to work
around the fact that installation of new languages from g-c-c does not
work currently.

[Bug 1720331] Re: Whoopsie continually relaunching

2017-10-06 Thread James Henstridge
This is definitely a gnome-control-center bug rather than whoopsie. I
can reproduce it like so:

 1. open gnome-control-center, and select the privacy panel.
 2. ensure that problem reporting is turned on.
 3. wait for whoopsie-preferences to exit on timeout (or manually kill it).

I then see traffic like the following on the system bus:

method call time=1507286449.661622 sender=:1.325 -> destination=:1.336
serial=96 path=/com/ubuntu/WhoopsiePreferences;
interface=com.ubuntu.WhoopsiePreferences; member=SetReportCrashes
   boolean false
method call time=1507286449.918969 sender=:1.325 -> destination=:1.336
serial=97 path=/com/ubuntu/WhoopsiePreferences;
interface=com.ubuntu.WhoopsiePreferences; member=SetReportCrashes
   boolean true
method call time=1507286450.216068 sender=:1.325 -> destination=:1.336
serial=98 path=/com/ubuntu/WhoopsiePreferences;
interface=com.ubuntu.WhoopsiePreferences; member=SetReportCrashes
   boolean false
method call time=1507286450.529908 sender=:1.325 -> destination=:1.336
serial=99 path=/com/ubuntu/WhoopsiePreferences;
interface=com.ubuntu.WhoopsiePreferences; member=SetReportCrashes
   boolean true
...

which continues until I kill gnome-control-center. Whoopsie relaunching
is a direct consequence of these D-Bus method calls coming from gnome-
control-center.

It looks like the logic controlling the GtkSwitch gets into a loop when
whoopsie-preferences stops. The D-Bus method calls are synchronous, so
this also ends up locking the UI. I'll have a look into this properly
next week.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Olivier: Is /etc/default/locale written to also?? That's not what
Sebastien and I observed. I'll go to a (relatively) fresh artful install
and recheck then.

If that's the case, the issue may not be so urgent. But it's poor
design, since it means that if a user changes language, s/he changes it
for all users on the system.

[Bug 1662031] Re: Switching language and format broken

2017-10-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Testing in an up-to-date artful VM, when switching languages in g-c-c,
both LANG and LANGUAGE are updated in both ~/.pam_environment and
/etc/default/locale.

That VM is an artful install that has been updated daily, not an upgrade
from a previous release.

** Description changed:

  The script /usr/bin/gvfs-info uses two bash features:

  2. "$@:2" is used instead of "shift" and then "$@" to expand all but the
first argument.
