Okay, I will try this with a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 and provide the necessary logs soon. I should be able to use the provided script over ssh, thanks. [Bug 1729194] [NEW] Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request
Public bug reported: Systemd sometimes just doesn't resolve DNS queries and for the life of me I don't know why. So often when I'm switching between wifi networks I find that systemd- resolved in 17.10 complete fails to do it's job. Here's the example. I'm connected to the internet : ``` chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:58:18} > ping 8.8.8.8 PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=196 ms 64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=67.5 ms 64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=78.9 ms ^C --- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 67.534/114.169/196.025/58.068 ms ``` But I can't seem to resolve domains: ``` chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:59:17} > nslookup google.com ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached ``` So I did a `systemd-resolver --status` to see if it's getting the right dns server. It is : ``` Link 3 (wlp2s0) Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6 LLMNR setting: yes MulticastDNS setting: no DNSSEC setting: no DNSSEC supported: no DNS Servers: 192.168.43.1 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d:: 2001:4888:50:ff00:500:d:: ``` And it's actually up and working properly : ``` chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:02:06} > nslookup google.com 192.168.43.1 Server: 192.168.43.1 Address:192.168.43.1#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: google.com Address: 172.217.11.78 chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:03:16} > nslookup google.com 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d:: Server: 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d:: Address:2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: google.com Address: 172.217.11.78 ``` Systemd just can't figure out to make the request. I did try the common step of flushing the cache (with `--flush-cache`) restarting network- manager and systemd-resolverd service but nothing seems to be able to make systemd-resolverd function. Even a reboot doesn't always fix the issue; sometimes it persists. For debugging this is what's in my /etc/resolv.conf : ``` chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:09:15} > cat /etc/resolv.conf # Generated by NetworkManager nameserver 127.0.1.1 ``` As soon as I manually set the nameserver from my loopback to the actual dns server (bypassing systemd-resolvd) things start working again. Let me know what kind of tshooting data I'd need to grab to help display this issue. In order to restore networking I had to manually edit that file and change my dns to the external source. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: systemd-resolved -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729194 Title: Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1729194/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1705864] Re: Nautilus no longer starts (again)
No, I haven't yet reinstalled the operating system. It's VERY tempting, due to the accumulation of bugs over time that happens on a computer, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to operate without my main computer for the 2 weeks that it takes to reinstall the operating system, applications, and configure everything again. Yes, the last time I had this issue was yesterday. I don't know of any way to make Nautilus start functioning again other than rebooting the computer. Note that this particular bug is not common. ie. On "Ubuntu", xeyes follows the mouse movement when over the desktop. On "GNOME" it doesn't. [Bug 1722121] Re: Gnome-Terminal ignores theme, preferences is unavailable, and copy not working when launching from right-click desktop
Pressing the global shortcut Ctrl+Alt+T, or pressing the Super key and typing Terminal, or launching from the left Launcher once it's been added as a favorite all launch via /usr/bin/gnome-terminal and result in a good one. Nautilus (Files) file manager window, right click -> Open in Terminal does _not_ go thru /usr/bin/gnome-terminal, yet results in a good terminal. Desktop's right click menu does _not_ go thru /usr/bin/gnome-terminal either (does it use the nautilus plugin? or some direct dbus/systemd stuff?) and results in a buggy window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722121 Title: Gnome-Terminal ignores theme, preferences is unavailable, and copy not working when launching from right-click desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1722121/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1722121] Re: Gnome-Terminal ignores theme, preferences is unavailable, and copy not working when launching from right-click desktop
I can confirm this with Ubuntu's packages, as well as manually compiled VTE + gnome-terminal from git master (and hence no Ubuntu patches, no wrapper startup script). Happens on "Ubuntu" desktop environment [Wayland] only, not on "Ubuntu (Xorg)" or any other. (Well, "GNOME" doesn't have a Terminal entry in its "right-click on the desktop" menu, not sure if it's supposed to be there or what makes it appear there.) Terminal windows started up in these two different ways are also not grouped together in the left-hand launchbar, or when Alt+Tabbing. However, they are all handled by a single common gnome-terminal-server process. Ctrl+Shift+N (new window) somehow remembers the context and opens another window of that kind. When pressed over a faulty window, the new one will be faulty too. When pressed over a good one, the new one is good too. If highlighted in a correct window, shift+insert pasting works in all the windows. If highlighted in a faulty window, shift+insert pasting doesn't work in the same window or other faulty windows, but works in healthy windows. (Note to myself: I could even try re-enabling tab DND across windows, and drag from a faulty to a correct one or vice versa to see what happens.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722121 Title: Gnome-Terminal ignores theme, preferences is unavailable, and copy not working when launching from right-click desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1722121/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@Chris: Your case is not a regression one, I suppose, but you rather did something 'stupid' without realizing the consequences. ;) One way to fix it is to make use of a bootable USB stick as I mentioned in comment #3. [Bug 1725676] Re: Keyboard language
I just researched it, and this is my understanding: The keyboard layout indicator in unity-greeter lists all the layouts for all users on the system. I suppose it grabs them from accountsservice. The indicator in lightdm-gtk-greeter shows the same list if it's enabled (not enabled by default). The keyboard layout indicator in gdm3 only lists the layouts saved in /etc/default/keyboard. So strictly speaking, this is a gdm3 wishlist bug. OTOH, for a user who accomplish an upgrade from e.g. Ubuntu 17.04 (or, later, Ubuntu 16.04) it may be seen as a regression. In most cases it doesn't matter much, but it did for the reporter of this bug. It may be motivated to ask upstream why they don't make use of the information provided by accountsservice in the same way as unity-greeter does. ** Package changed: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) => gdm3 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Keyboard language + Keyboard language available on the login screen -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725676 Title: Keyboard language available on the login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1725676/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I use font scaling. At one point I enabled fractional scaling but have since completely disabled it including disabling org.gnome.mutter .experimental-features. "unplugging external monitor" I only use one monitor and this is a desktop - but my 4k PB287 Asus monitor has perhaps the slowest turn on speed ever designed by man. [Bug 1729019] Re: Ambiance color affecting Gnome-Shell themes under Ubuntu Session
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). More infos... I first installed a gnome-session in Ubuntu 17.10, to get a more Vanilla Gnome. Now that I've modified the GDM Lock Screen to Vanilla Gnome*, so far it works. The laptop correctly comes back from sleep after opening the lid, and I'm presented with the "normal" clock screen. Then, I swipe up to get the Login screen. But... If I deactivate the Lock Screen, in the Privacy Settings, it won't work. [Bug 1699670] Re: Gnome screensaver lock always responses "incorrect password" when last active window's language is not the language of the password

Log in form shows that the language of the password is set (EN in my case) but it always returns 'Incorrect password' message in response to the correct input. The issue doesnt start until my monitor is turned back on; I put my /var/log/syslog entries here: https://pastebin.com/QTe2QvHX with this being where the segfault happens: Oct 31 10:34:40 server kernel: [46047.363402] gnome-shell[3514]: segfault at 38 ip 7fb52a26cc30 sp 7ffc4b559568 error 4 in libmutter-1.so.0.0.0[7fb52a21a000+141000] Running Desktop 17.10 inplace upgrade from 17.4/16.10 on a 7600K internal graphics on an ASRock z270 board with a Dell monitor plugged in via HDMI. Crash reports were uploaded to Ubuntu on 10/27. Happy to participate in detailed troubleshooting any time.
