[Bug 1723117] Re: Desktop icons goes under the Dock, if the Dock is set to auto-hide.

2017-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I believe this is a feature and not a bug. Most people using auto-hide
do so because they want to use their full desktop width, which includes
putting icons on the left edge of the desktop. So for many/most users of
auto-hide the current behaviour is probably best.

Workaround: You also have the option of simply moving your icons to a
place where they are never covered.

P.S. The desktop and its icons are rendered by 'nautilus-desktop' from
the 'nautilus' source package.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is found in Artful.

Desktop icons goes under the Dock, if the Dock is set to auto-hide.

Either the Dock should auto-hide on the Desktop as well, or the Desktop
Icons should leave a margin with the same size of the Dock.

This happen both horizontal and vertical Dock positions.

[Bug 1567427] Re: gnome-shell crashes when touchscreen is touched

2017-11-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

When the crash report has been uploaded to a new bug, please mention
that new bug's ID here.

[Bug 1730672] Re: Proxy settings not applied system-wide, are not used by Software Update or apt

2017-11-09 Thread John
Thorsten - you can workaround a few different ways. For me, it's a pain
because I move from a proxy-only to a non-proxy environment as I move my
workstation around.

Workarounds:
1. set the http_proxy, https_proxy, ftp_proxy environment variables in root's
environment, reboot.

2. prefix any apt command with the variables,ie

sudo http_proxy='http://[username]:[password]@[webproxy]:[port]' apt update
sudo http_proxy='http://[username]:[password]@[webproxy]:[port]' apt upgrade
sudo http_proxy='http://[username]:[password]@[webproxy]:[port]' apt install
[package]

Hope that helps. Proxy issues have been appearing on and off in Ubuntu
for a long time (9.x). They usually get sorted out eventually.

etc

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/log/?h=gnome-3-26

We had already cherry-picked two fixes:
  - fix_reset_initial_focus.patch
  - git_layout-unset-when-headless.patch

We are also adding a fix for LP: #1712798

  Test Case
  =
After installing this update, please restart your computer.

Verify that the default Ubuntu 17.10 desktop still works as well as it
  did before.

Also log in to the "vanilla" GNOME session to verify that it works (you
may need to install gnome-session and restart first).

Optionally, you can go through some of the fixed bugs to verify the bug
  and the fix.

  Regression Potential

- GNOME Shell is also used for the login screen so it is really important that
+ GNOME Shell is also used for the login screen so it is really important that
updates don't break!

This is a much smaller update than 3.26.1 (in terms of commits and lines

GNOME 3.26 distros will be shipping this update.

There is a micro-release exception for GNOME:

[Bug 1731296] [NEW] GNOME Software app not shown as "Ubuntu Software" in Unity 17.10

2017-11-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Test Case
=
Install Ubuntu 17.10.
sudo apt install unity
Restart your computer.
On the login screen, click your name then click the gear button and select
Unity. Log in.
In the Launcher on the left side of the screen, GNOME Software is shown but not
Ubuntu Software

Background Info
===
There is an interesting per-desktop override feature. The primary .desktop is
installed as /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Software.desktop . That .desktop
file can be overriden for the ubuntu desktop by shipping
/usr/share/applications/Ubuntu/org.gnome.Software.desktop or for the gnome
desktop by shipping /usr/share/applications/gnome/org.gnome.Software.desktop.

Until now, this override was only done for the Ubuntu session (which in
17.10 is no longer Unity).

Proposal #1
===
Have the ubuntu-software packaging install the override .desktop to
/usr/share/unity/applications/ too.

Proposal #2
===
Have the ubuntu-software packaging install the override .desktop to
/usr/share/FOO/applications/ where FOO is every desktop session in Ubuntu. Then
it's up to users and flavors whether they want the Ubuntu or GNOME branding
based on whether they install the ubuntu-software package.

Proposal #3
===
Rework the packaging to install the Ubuntu Software .desktop to
/usr/share/applications/
Install the GNOME Software .desktop to /usr/share/gnome/applications/ so that
GNOME (as in the vanilla GNOME session) alone gets the GNOME branding.

In this case, the ubuntu-software package is not needed any more (after
a transitional period for upgrades).

The question is whether there is any reason why someone not using
vanilla GNOME would want the GNOME branding instead of the Ubuntu
branding.

Ok, Daniel, I understand. Should I file a specific bug about the
notification-related crash? There are a lot of bug reports with gnome-shell
crashes and some of them are probably related to the notifications, but i
don't know how to figure out which one is the one I am having.

I'm 30. My skin has never been very breakout prone, but I've always had
issues with dryness, and associated overproduction of oil. Until I
started building my routine here I had no idea how sensitive my
skin is. Previously, I was using the Clinique three step routine and
it was much too harsh for my skin. Since starting this new routine
the dryness and associated oiliness have been dramatically reduced.

At this point, I think my main concerns is continuing to eliminate the
dry/oily patches and getting my skin to a normal texture. I've already
made progress but there's still a lot of room for improvement. Beyond that, I
would love to continue preventing wrinkles. I'm very fair skinned so I've
never spent much time without sunscreen but I also haven't been diligent
about using it every day.

Ultimate goal, I guess, is to end up an old lady with skin like my
great grandmother. She was 99 when she died and she consistently
looked 20 years younger than her age because she avoided the sun and
took very good care of her skin.

[Bug 1731211] [NEW] systemd breaks interface configuration due to late resolv.conf

2017-11-09 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have configured a linux bridge (vlan0) for virtual machines in
/etc/network/interfaces.d/vlan0. The usual configuration including to
start dnasmasq as a dhcp and dns server for that network.

With 17.10 that fails, systemd can't start networking.service

# ls -lF /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 Okt 24 11:58 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

As far as I can see at that time of booting, the /etc/resolv.conf shows into a
a directory which is not yet created (/run is a tmpfs, thus empty at boot
time), and I have seen more trouble caused by this, that there is a certain
amount of time in the boot process, where /etc/resolv.conf is neither absent
nor readable, but a dangling symlink, causing lots of trouble.

This construction to have a permanent symlink pointing to nowhere while
booting is broken by design.

Furthermore, it's really difficult to get rid of that filthy systemd
dns. That's really odd stuff.

[Bug 1505409] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in x_io_error() from _XIOError() from _XEventsQueued() from XPending() from gdk_check_xpending() ["Connection to xwayland lost"]

2017-11-09 Thread Rachel Greenham
It failed to hold true on day 2 anyway, as today the session didn't
survive the overnight sleep. But in any case I re-checked the bug of
mine that was marked a duplicate of this one, and saw as it was during
one of my brief try-outs with wayland, is irrelevant to my current
gnome-session woes, as I'm back on xorg. I had thought this just one of
the family of gnome-shell crashers that was affecting both xorg and
wayland, but seemingly only with displayport monitors.

[Bug 1729181] Re: directory and file icons are same in "Files" app

2017-11-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
it would have been easier to use ubuntu-bug to report the issue, it
would have included the session/versions/errors informations.

Could you add your /var/log/syslog to the bug and add the output of the
"env | grep -i session" command?

By the way, comment #48 is on Ubuntu Artful, latest packages at the time
of writing, with Gnome Shell 3.26.1-0ubuntu4.

[Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64() [Global App Menu specific?]

2017-11-09 Thread François-Xavier Thomas
I have (what looks like) the same issue with another extension
(specifically this commit: https://github.com/projecthamster/hamster-
shell-extension/tree/07cea1824291cb818befd5fb473a065abe334bde).

The crash does not always happen (is it a race condition?), but, when it
does, it always occurs right when clicking on a button to close a
window.

JS and GDB stack traces are below, and I can provide a core dump and
other debugging info if necessary.
