[Bug 1716203] Re: Backport packages for 16.04.4 HWE stack

2017-11-21 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mesa into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1720465] Re: HiDPI scaling does not hold across reboot

2017-11-21 Thread John Wang
I confirm #6. First, as I have to do every time I boot into my Ubuntu
17.10 VM under Parallels 13, I went to Settings > Devices > Displays and
changed my scaling to 200% so I can actually read text. Then I performed
some outstanding Ubuntu software updates and rebooted when prompted.
When I logged back in, the scaling controls were no longer present in
Settings > Devices > Displays, so now I'm stuck with tiny text and UI.

I suspect the cause of the missing scaling controls was the software
update I performed to mutter 3.26.2-0ubuntu0.1, which the changelog says
introduced a HiDPI-related patch for bug #1724024.

[Bug 42109] Re: LiveCD session doesn't provide fully translated interfaces according to selected language on booting screen

2017-11-21 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
AFAICT, this topic was thoroughly considered by the desktop team a
couple of years ago, and it ended up in the decision to support full
language support in live sessions for the biggest languages, but not for
the rest. Please see bug #1520278.

So this bug report is a "Won't Fix" candidate IMO.

IMHO: from an end-user point of view, this option is very very hidden
and should be enabled by default.

That this option is not persistent is a bug (open ?)

The reason, if any, would be to not add to the complexity of the Ubuntu
specific patch(es) in this respect. Otherwise, adding a scroll bar would
be more elegant, of course, even if I don't know how to do it.

[Bug 1733569] [NEW] In file explorer Modified column has day of week only (no time) and column change is not kept

2017-11-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I opened the file explorer (Nautilus?) to check when a particular file
was created. I was interested in time (this is what Windows would show).

The Modified column shows only weekday name ("Thu") which makes it
imprecise and kind of useless. I would expect to see at least hours and
minutes ("Thu 07:44")

When I replaced Modified column with Modified--Time (which shows "Thu
07:44"...), the change is not kept permanently.

[Bug 1733626] [NEW] Autologin doesn't work when gdm3 launches an X11 session as a fallback

2017-11-21 Thread Alessandro Morgantini
Public bug reported:

Hello!
I have Ubuntu 17.10 in a system where Wayland is not working (because my
graphic kernel driver doesn't support modesetting). So, the usual session is,
for me, of X11 type. Despite I have enabled gdm's autologin feature (in
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf), everytime I boot the system I obtain the login screen.

If I disable Wayland tout court (WaylandEnable=false in
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf) it works as expected (autologin directly to the
user session).

Best regards,
Alessandro

[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2017-11-21 Thread Anthony Naddeo
For me, this was caused by my custom .desktop file. I downloaded
Firefox, unpacked it to my home and created a .desktop file for it in
~/.local/share/applicaitons as so:

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon[en_US]=firefox
Name[en_US]=Firefox latest
Exec=/home/local/ANT/naddeo/firefox/firefox
Comment[en_US]=Firefox directly from tgz
Name=Firefox latest
Comment=Firefox directly from tgz
Icon=firefox

The issue was caused by my Exec line. I had to update it to this:

Exec=/home/local/ANT/naddeo/firefox/firefox %u

Then external link clicks starting working again. I found that out by
looking at the .desktop file that the Firefox in the ubuntu repos uses
at /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop and copying that.

[Bug 1733597] [NEW] "gio open" handles mailto: links wrong, putting /// at the start of the email address

2017-11-21 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

"gio open mailto:user@host"; results in gio executing "thunderbird
mailto:///user@host";, which is wrong and causes the address that shows
up in the thunderbird composition window to start with three slashes
when it shouldn't.

Proof, from "strace gio open mailto:user@host"; output:

16976 execve("/usr/bin/gio", ["gio", "open", "mailto:user@host";], [/* 76 vars
*/]) = 0
16980 execve("/usr/bin/thunderbird", ["thunderbird", "mailto:///user@host";],

** Also affects: libinput (Ubuntu Artful)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: libinput (Ubuntu)
   Status: Triaged => Fix Released

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
  I have been having regular system freezes after switching from using my
  laptop stand-alone to waking it up on a docking station with an external
  monitor. I have seen this using two identical docking station plus
  monitor combinations. I am still trying to find a pattern. I was able
  to ssh in and use apport to save this bug information. The gnome-shell
  process was hung at 100% CPU utilisation.
+
+ libinput 1.8.4 fixes this

+ [Test case]
+
+ Wake up while the system is docked and attached to an external monitor.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+
+ The bugfix comes via a new microrelease update, so chance of regressions

[Bug 1715722] Re: Allow safe override of GDM3 theme

2017-11-21 Thread mif
Thank you for checking source cord.
Simply, I made gdm3.css and ubuntu.css a different file. So I noticed.
But I noticed the version of GDM3 being old.
It's 3.26.1-3ubuntu3 on Ubuntu 17.10 and POP! OS.
I apologize for the confusion.
Is a problem corrected by future's upgrade?

[Bug 1733577] [NEW] Buttons to go right, left, rotate are not well visible

2017-11-21 Thread Robert Orzanna
Public bug reported:

Please see the attached screenshot.

I tested this on 18.04.

In my opinion, the buttons to go right, left or rotate are not well
visible unless you hover over them.

Is this intentional or a bug?

I suggest to increase the contrast on non-hover so that it's more
visible what these buttons do.

[Bug 1733318] Re: Displays -> Could not get screen information

2017-11-21 Thread Andrew Neeson
Steps to reproduce:
- Navigate to:
 - System Settings...
 - Devices
 - Displays

Expected behaviour
- The display configuration options are shown

Actual behaviour
- The following message is shown: "Could not get screen information"

If there's any additional system settings or logs you need let me know.
I've noticed a whole host of problems since upgrading to 17.10. Most of them
relating to graphical elements

E.g.
Dragging windows would sometimes cause my session to reboot.
My Evolution mail client continually crashed (I had to uninstall it).
Just this morning I encountered a new issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1733557

I've made no manual changes to an of the core settings/packages on Ubuntu
(freshly installed 6 months ago).

If there's any steps you'd like me to try, let me know. At this point I
had resigned myself to reformatting my machine.

2017-11-21 Thread proteus
Yes, I am posting this as a bug (already browsed extensively the forums
for support). Of course, if this isn't a wide-spread issue or if it's
specific only to this specific mouse model, I can understand if it's not
going to be prioritized.

(And no, not going to re-install the OS just to fix a mouse issue, I'll
just try different mice until I get one that works).

[Bug 1733318] Re: Displays -> Could not get screen information

2017-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1731628] Re: Cannot add caldav calendar

2017-11-21 Thread CB
I have a similar problem with Ubuntu 17.10. After pasting my ICS URL
(from Zimbra), the Add button stays grayed out. If I use the read-only
URL (offered by Zimbra, with an .html at the end) it adds the calendar
but no event is shown. And when clinking at the calendar it opens it at
my browser. Besides this it keeps crashing without warning in some
random situations.

[Bug 1733299] Re: Unable to change display positionning when laptop is docked under 17.10 gnome-control-center

2017-11-21 Thread Joseph Maillardet
** Description changed:

  Since upgrading to 17.10, I was unable to drag displays to match my
  setup under "gnome-control-center display" when my zbook 15 laptop was
  plugged on HP 230W docking station.

  This scenario imply 3 screens. The switched off 4k 16:9 laptop screen
  3200x1800 (lid is closed), one LG 21:9 2560x1080 and one Dell 16:9
  1920x1080. (See attached picture)

  It's impossible to move the display screen inside the "Display
  Arrangement" zone.

- For know I manage with xrandr but unfortunately, I have to arrange
- screen after each reboot. Without gnome-control-center, screen position
- is not stored.

[Bug 1696305] Re: High CPU usage in gnome-shell just redrawing the screen (Firefox is running)

2017-11-21 Thread KANGOD
It affects me too.

I'm on Ubuntu 17.10. Closing all apps but System Monitor, then moving
the mouse up and down on the icons in Dock bar, keeping on, and my
i7-8700k will be rapidly consumed 80+% even 90+%.
