Sent: Tuesday, December 05, 2017 1:17 AM

Subject: Like what?

the unstability was caused greatly by the uncertainty that the media
carried.

ofcourse there was some downfall since the trust amongst banks crumbled
and that will hit everyone no matter how solid you are on paper. but
the economy was not really in a state where the downfall should have
been anywhere near what took place. so with a grain of salt albeit
it was induced by the media, that created a sense of urgency that was
rather dificult to detect on the actual economy.

The fix isn't included in that release yet, however I've just pushed
upstream a backport for the gnome-3.26 branch, so it might be
available at next point release.

[Bug 1580605] Re: gnome-shell crashes often

2017-12-04 Thread James Cuzella
So due to differing stacktrace here, I think #911591 is likely a
different issue than this one. Different stack library means different
codepath.

@fermulator: Does seem a bit odd at first glance... does gnome-shell
use .NET or C# (gdk-sharp)?

libgdk3.0 is a valid package name in Ubuntu, but descriptions all
mention it has to do with implementing a .NET interface for GTK+ 3.0
toolkit.

URL Homepage for package is: http://www.mono-project.com/GtkSharp

Here is package info:

few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your

[Bug 1736232] [NEW] GNOME Software shows U1 login for snaps

2017-12-04 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

As I understood it, GNOME Software is no longer supposed to be asking
for U1 logins when installing snaps. I just did a clean up to date
install of 16.04.3 and tried launching G-S and it asked me for a U1
login.

Steps to reproduce:

Install 16.04.3
Update to latest software in the repo
Open Ubuntu Software
Click the "hiri" banner
Click install button

Expected behaviour:-

Policykit login box appears

Actual behaviour:-

Ubuntu One login/sign up box appears

[Bug 1245473] Re: Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program

2017-12-04 Thread Norbert
Clarification of my comment 58:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with MATE desktop does not affect by this bug,
but 17.10 and 18.04 LTS are affected even with MATE desktop (see bug 1720364).

So Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with MATE desktop is unique, here we can use
Ctrl+Shift layout switcher without problems. And of course Alt+Shift
too.

[Bug 1245473] Re: Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program

2017-12-04 Thread Norbert
@Roman Shchekin (mrqtros)
In my systems I fixed this bug by switching to the Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS.
I wrote this comment from it with Ctrl+Shift layout switcher and two layouts
(English and Russian).
But Ubuntu 17.10 with MATE desktop is affected by this bug (see bug 1720364). I
hoped that this would not happen.

I'll continue to use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with MATE desktop. I hope they fix
this bug before Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and/or 20.04 LTS releases.

Any news on this? It affects not only layout switching, but also a lot of
famous and well used hotkeys, for example:
  - ctrl+shift+T in Chrome (reopen closed tab)
  - ctrl+shift+arrow in text edit
It is bloody unusable at the moment.

Re: [Bug 1733032] Re: touchpad disable while typing, disable tap-to-click don't work in 17.10

2017-12-04 Thread Charles Green
I run a logitech wireless mouse, although my receiver comes up as
"Logitech M315/M235".  I'm not sure why this device would show on your
system as devices 14 and 18.  I assume device 15 must be a wireless
keyboard?

Just for kicks, you could try selectively disabling one or the other of
the devices:

xinput disable 14

check mouse, touchpad actions

xinput enable 14

retry for device 18.

But hopefully, a piece of the problem so the developers can write a
solution!

What is the output of "xinput" on your computer?

Re: [Bug 1733032] Re: touchpad disable while typing, disable tap-to-click don't work in 17.10

2017-12-04 Thread Charles Green
In my case, xinput shows a device "ELAN Touchscreen"

I have issued the command " xinput disable 'ELAN Touchscreen' ", which
disables that device entirely, and my touchpad then works correctly.  I
will update my comment in the bug report.

[Bug 1733032] Re: touchpad disable while typing, disable tap-to-click don't work in 17.10

2017-12-04 Thread Charles Green
Expanding upon comment #3

xinput shows

⎡ Virtual core pointer  id=2[master pointer  (3)]
⎜   ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=14   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ ELAN Touchscreen  id=9[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Logitech M315/M235id=10   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button  id=6[slave  keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave  keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button  id=8[slave  keyboard (3)]
↳ Dell WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]

I have issued the command

xinput disable 'ELAN Touchscreen'

this disables my touchscreen, which I don't use anyhow, and the disable-
while-typing works correctly on my touchpad.

In Ubuntu 17.10 the "show application" should have on top-left instead of
bottom-left and "minimize-maximize-close" buttons should have been on the
left side of the window instead of right side.

[Bug 1736084] Re: Unable to style borders on gnome-terminal

2017-12-04 Thread Andy Smith
As a demonstration that the first snippet does work for at least some
apps on my 17.10 system, please find attached a screenshot showing part
of a gedit window loaded after making gtk.css look like this:

decoration {
  border: 10px solid shade(@border-grey, 1);
  background: shade(@border-grey, 1);
}

I'm 99% sure I already tried "terminal-window" as the selector but I'll
give it another go in a little while when I haven't got a lot of work in
progress.

It doesn't show any effect after saving the gtk.css and running "gnome-
terminal --disable-factory", nor by restarting gnome shell with alt-F2
and "r", but I've found those are sometimes not enough to make gnome-
terminal see changes, and will have to try fully logging out.

[Bug 1736084] Re: Unable to style borders on gnome-terminal

2017-12-04 Thread Egmont Koblinger
The first snippet you showed doesn't do anything for me (not even for
other GNOME windows).

Anyway...

Could you please try "terminal-window" as the selector? This should
match the toplevel window. Or some combination of "terminal-window" and
"decoration"...

VTE is the terminal emulation widget, the area where the terminal
emulation happens. As you increase its padding, you'll see that it does
_not_ include the menubar and tab bar on the top, and the scrollbar on
the right. Hence if you want to achieve something on the overall window,
going for anything VTE-related isn't the right approach. (If there's a
way to select on a "decoration" with the condition that it has a "vte-
terminal" somewhere down among its descendants, then that might work
too. I'm not sure if such selectors exist.)

[Bug 1736084] [NEW] Unable to style borders on gnome-terminal

2017-12-04 Thread Andy Smith
Public bug reported:

As the default background colour for gnome-terminal is black, and
windows have a black drop shadow, when several terminals are stacked on
top of each other it is hard to see where one terminal ends and another
begins.

I would like to add a coloured border to each gnome-terminal window.

I have been able to accomplish this with the following CSS in
~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css:

@define-color border-grey #444;

decoration {
  border: 1px solid shade(@border-grey, 1);
  background: shade(@border-grey, 1);
}

This works, but it affects every single Gnome window for every
application. Ideally I'd like to restrict this to gnome-terminal windows
only.

I've tried:

vte-terminal {
  border: 1px solid shade(@border-grey, 1);
  background: shade(@border-grey, 1);
}

This doesn't appear to do anything. I know it is the correct CSS
selector though, because if I add padding:

vte-terminal {
  border: 1px solid shade(@border-grey, 1);
  background: shade(@border-grey, 1);
  padding: 50px;
}

Then the padding takes effect when I save the file and start a new
gnome-terminal with:

$ gnome-terminal --disable-factory

I have also tried a variety of different selectors found through many
searches such as "TerminalScreen", "VteTerminal" and "widget". None of
these seem to produce any effect, even for padding. As "vte-terminal" is
the only one that does anything even for padding, I believe that "vte-
terminal" must be the correct selector but setting a coloured border is
simply not supported.

I have also tried using GTK+ Inspector to find the CSS selectors that
gnome-terminal supports, but for some reason they aren't listed in the
debug window.

If there is a way to set window border colour (only) with gnome-
terminal, please could someone let me know?

If there's not then can this be a wishlist item?
