If the above is done during high memory consumption of another process hundreds of VLC processes are started and the display manager crashes (but that's another issues). If random playback is configured in VLC, it's ignored and always the last video is played first. The is no apparent reason why multiple files cannot be opened like in 17.04. [Bug 1699216] Re: Encrypted home support
Hi Jememy. Nice work on the patches! I've been working with the AccountsService upstream and I'd like to work out how we can get these patches in. I think we can make this work with a couple of changes: - Instead of making the CreateUserEncrypt() method you could make a new account type ACCOUNT_TYPE_ENCRYPTED (src/user.h). Since upstream can't currently support this though 'useradd' it should then fail the call when this account type is encrypted. - We then can carry the change in Debian/Ubuntu by modifying debian/patches/0002-create-and-manage-groups-like-on-a-debian-system.patch (I'm working on merging in 0006-adduser_instead_of_useradd.patch which should be in the same patch). Please open a bug on bugzilla.freedesktop.org with the patch and I will help review there. I'm also working on how we can get our adduser changes upstream so we don't have to carry this patch either (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73838) I've pinged upstream but I think everyone is on break now (and I will be for the next two weeks too) but will pick this up when I'm back. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #73838 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73838 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699216 Title: Encrypted home support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/1699216/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1739672] [NEW] Regression in getaddrinfo(): calls block for much longer on Bionic (compared to Xenial)
Public bug reported: When testing MAAS on Bionic, we noticed sluggish performance that we could not immediately explain. After comparing the results from a run of the test suite on Xenial to a run on Bionic, we determined that the slowdowns had to do with DNS lookups. In particular, if MAAS attempts to resolve a hostname using getaddrinfo() and the call fails, on Xenial the negative result is returned in a fraction of a second. On Bionic, the negative result is returned in ~1.6 seconds, according to some measures. ### To run the test ### git clone https://github.com/mpontillo/test-getaddrinfo cd test-getaddrinfo make ### Results on Xenial ### time ./test not-a-real-hostname Trying to resolve: not-a-real-hostname getaddrinfo errno: Success getaddrinfo() return value: -2 (Name or service not known) real0m0.015s user0m0.000s sys 0m0.000s ### Results on Bionic ### $ time ./test not-a-real-hostname Trying to resolve: not-a-real-hostname getaddrinfo errno: Resource temporarily unavailable getaddrinfo() return value: -3 (Temporary failure in name resolution) real0m1.609s user0m0.004s sys 0m0.000s ** Affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: xenial ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1739672 Title: Regression in getaddrinfo(): calls block for much longer on Bionic (compared to Xenial) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1739672/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1723025] Re: no login screen when booting with an external monitor attached
I have a very similar issue in 17.04. The external display is treated as the second screen, and login screen's main area goes to laptop's inbuilt screen even though the lid is closed. This started in 17.04, was never an issue in 16.04. External monitor connected through HDMI is still functional. It shows the background image with dots overlay at login screen. There are two workarounds: 1. If I open and close laptop's lid, the login screen switches over to external display. 2. If I move the mouse towards right, as it enters the second screen area, login screen comes to external monitor. If either of these workarounds help in 17.10, probably it's a bug carried forward from 17.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723025 Title: no login screen when booting with an external monitor attached To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1723025/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1729887] Re: Drag-and-drop to desktop not possible without copying the file under wayland
I'm a little bit surprised that there are not more reports like mine. This thing or some connected error cuts off my "workflow" on a regular basis and, like explained below, often forces me to reboot the computer. There are at least two additional behaviors that i think are connected to this report, one a major: - Major crashes leaving my mouse useless (in most windows) after using drag-and-drop After using drag-and-drop from external media to the desktop or dragging a firefox-bookmark (sometimes happens by mistake using firefox not in fullscreen mode) to the desktop (this normally should just create a textfile with the hyperlink) often the mouse stays in grab-mode (a hand is shown) and still can be moved, but can't be used in different windows for actions like click. Now the Firefox is useless, closing with strg+w/q fixes it. If the desktop/folderstructure is affaced by this theres no workaround but to restart the computer (or maybe killing/restarting the process) to use the mouse again for clicking. - Size of Desktop-Icons/Folders grows with the size in folders. When i change the Size of the Objects in any folder, simultaneously the size of all objects at the desktop change (not in folder view). This is strange behavior and im sure it wasnt that way earlier. Like when you change the objectsize (strg+scrolling) in a photo-folder by the way and afterwards you cant recognise your desktop anymore, seeing just 3 grown large symbols for example. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729887 Title: Drag-and-drop to desktop not possible without copying the file under wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/1729887/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1733249] Re: No time displayed on lock screen.
Actually, in Ubuntu 18.04 and presumably 17.10, the day and time are displayed up top on the login screen. And you can click on it to show the calendar with the date. So it sounds like Kai is using some older Ubuntu release Kai, please run 'apport-collect 1733249' on the affected machine to help us understand what you're running. ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733249 Title: No time displayed on lock screen.
