[Bug 1741245] Re: gnome-shell freezes and crashes upon usb drive insertion
Please have a look in /var/crash for any unreported crash files. If you fine some for gnome-shell then please use the command: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash to securely upload the crash. Regardless of whether you can find any recent crash files, please then run this command in a shell on the affected machine: xdg-open "https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/"`sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie /whoopsie-id` or as two lines both ending in backticks: xdg-open "https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/"` sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id` That will then open a web page showing you your system's crash history. If you find any links to gnome-shell crashes on that page then please tell us what those are here. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1741245 Title: gnome-shell freezes and crashes upon usb drive insertion To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1741245/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1721428] Re: Artful (17.10) Session logout after screen turned off
Yes, sorry, that seems to be a missing feature (or bug?) of apport. It tells you a crash happened but not where to follow it up on the web. Here's how to find out where your crash(es) went. In a terminal run the below command. It will ask you for your password because for some (security) reason the machine's unique ID is considered private. Enter you password when asked and it should then open a web page with all the crashes listed from your machine: xdg-open "https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/"`sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie /whoopsie-id` or as two separate lines ending in a backtick: xdg-open "https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/"` sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id` The page will initially say "No data to display" but wait a second or two and it will then be populated. Clicking on a crash's link in the Received column will open details about that particular instance. Then to follow it up scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Problem" link. That will take you to the bucket on errors.ubuntu.com where your crash has been grouped with other people experiencing the same problem. You can also get to the launchpad bug from there, if one exists, or tell it to open a new bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721428 Title: Artful (17.10) Session logout after screen turned off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1721428/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1741314] [NEW] "systemctl enable mdmonitor" fails
Public bug reported: mdadm package appears to not be complete. trying to enable mdmonitor to launch automatically for systemd, but it fails with this warning: # systemctl enable mdmonitor The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy, RequiredBy, Also, Alias settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance for template units). This means they are not meant to be enabled using systemctl. Possible reasons for having this kind of units are: 1) A unit may be statically enabled by being symlinked from another unit's .wants/ or .requires/ directory. 2) A unit's purpose may be to act as a helper for some other unit which has a requirement dependency on it. 3) A unit may be started when needed via activation (socket, path, timer, D-Bus, udev, scripted systemctl call, ...). 4) In case of template units, the unit is meant to be enabled with some instance name specified. I check the `dmesg` output and couldn't find the cause of this problem. And, not sure where to start and what to diagnose or test. Also, unfortunately I don't have a script or method to reproducible this error elsewhere. [Bug 1740522] Re: GLib: g_variant_new_string: assertion 'string != NULL' failed
It would be an easy fix if the assertion message printed the backtrace of the apps calling in glib. I wonder if the system packages are compiled in RelWithDbgInfo by default, so that a stacktrace would be useful in release for fixing bugs like this. I wonder if there's a way to extend G_DEBUG with a "slient- stacktraces" option that would report a core file to the system on each critical/warning, because I assume it's in Ubunutu's best interests to fix all of these they can, but of course you don't want all the apps crashing, so G_DEBUG=fatal-criticals doesn't seem it will work. [Bug 1724259] Re: gnome-shell frozen and using 100% CPU after docking and display configuration change
I am currently running version 1.8.4-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 of both packages and have not seen this problem for a while. I have rebooted several times since installing the packages. Off-topic, but since yesterday (can't remember it happening earlier) I have started seeing mouse button freezes after suspend and resume, affecting clients. Most windows can still be dragged, and the dock responds to mouse buttons, but e.g. the terminal, Firefox and Thunderbird respond to keyboard but not mouse. I can raise the windows using the dock.
