[Bug 1744409] [NEW] Unable to arrange displays in gnome control center with 3 connected monitors and having 1 disabled

2018-01-19 Thread Josh
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 17.10
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:3.26.2-0ubuntu0.2

Expected to be able to arrange displays via the displays panel when

display is disabled (ex. a docked laptop with two external displays) you
are unable to position displays.

[Bug 1744370] [NEW] 'systemd-sleep suspend' hung after an abortive suspend/resume

2018-01-19 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

On an Asus T300CHI with 16.04 and kernel 4.13.0-25-lowlatency a suspend
operation almost immediately resumed but "systemd-sleep suspend" was
still running and as a result network-manager thought it was in state
"asleep" and would not re-enable networking.

Some system logs looked like they weren't getting the normal flow of
messages and 'systemctl status' for the suspend.target and systemd-
suspend.service showed they thought the system was suspending/suspended.

This was around 07:36. I left the system most of the day until I could
investigate.

I noticed the dmesg showed "Suspended for 23820.656 seconds" when it
resumed/failed to suspend immediately.

After a lot of digging and saving command output of interest at 18:33 I
did:

sudo kill $(pidof systemd-sleep)

the system immediately suspended. After nearly a minute I pressed the
power button and the PC instantly resumed.

dmesg reported "Suspended for 43 seconds" which is correct and network-
manager correctly returned to connected state.

[Bug 1220764] Re: Rhythmbox does not add VBR headers when ripping CDs to MP3

2018-01-19 Thread Derek L
This problem still occurs in 17.10. I just ripped a kids music disc via
Rhythmbox using MP3 default settings (=VBR/medium). Files are perceived
(by RB and nautilus) as 32Kbps:

% file 19\ -\ Five\ Days\ Old.mp3
19 - Five Days Old.mp3: Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0, contains:MPEG ADTS,
layer III, v1, 32 kbps, 44.1 kHz, JntStereo

% mp3val 19\ -\ Five\ Days\ Old.mp3
Analyzing file "19 - Five Days Old.mp3"...
WARNING: "/home/ddl/Music/Laurie Berkner/Lullabies/19 - Five Days Old.mp3": VBR
detected, but no VBR header is present. Seeking may not work properly.

INFO: "/home/ddl/Music/Laurie Berkner/Lullabies/19 - Five Days Old.mp3": 7087
MPEG frames (MPEG 1 Layer III), +ID3v2, no VBR header

I can partly "fix" file metadata (via vbrfix and mp3val -f), but
nautilus and RB then display bitrate as "unknown".

[Bug 1573728] Re: Files opened with gedit on command line no longer open within the existing gedit session

2018-01-19 Thread Karl Trygve Kalleberg
I see the same thing (17.10), gedit 3.22.1:

- if I maximize gedit vertically, gedit foo always opens a new gedit window
- if I maximize gedit horizontall, gedit foo always opens a new gedit window
- if I don't maximize in either direction, gedit foo opens in the existing
gedit window

I'm running Wayland, not sure if that has any impact.

[Bug 1730460] Re: Framerate drops when moving windows across physical displays

2018-01-19 Thread Luis Alberto Pabón
This was happening on gnome-shell, not unity. The report says unity I
gather because the crashes got so bad I had to switch back.

I feel it might be tied up to the dynamic transparency stuff on either
the top panel, or the dock. I opened another bug about the crashes here:

[Bug 1730460] Re: Framerate drops when moving windows across physical displays

2018-01-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Luis, you say "Ubuntu session (wayland)" but the bug report says
"CurrentDesktop: Unity:Unity7:ubuntu"

Please confirm if the bug was happening in gnome-shell or unity.

[Bug 1696305] Re: High CPU usage in gnome-shell just redrawing the screen (Firefox is running)

2018-01-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is probably a bit out of date now. I don't see problems as bad
any more.

Rasmus: Please test again with the latest firefox (I think the newer
versions ~57 or so are much more efficient). And if you can, also test
Ubuntu 18.04: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Everyone else: Please log your own new bugs using this command: ubuntu-bug
gnome-shell
and also mention which apps cause high CPU usage of gnome-shell.

[Bug 1741839] Re: gdm3 lock screen (not log in) freezes sometime

2018-01-19 Thread Yassine
Here's what I got right when it freezed:
Jan 19 12:57:31 yassine-hp-notebook systemd-logind[1220]: Lid opened.

Jan 19 12:57:31 yassine-hp-notebook gnome-shell[2310]: Failed to apply DRM
plane transform 0: Permission denied
Jan 19 12:57:31 yassine-hp-notebook gnome-shell[2310]: Failed to read EDID from
'eDP-1': No such file or directory
Jan 19 12:57:31 yassine-hp-notebook gnome-shell[2310]: Failed to read EDID from
'eDP-1': No such file or directory
Jan 19 12:57:31 yassine-hp-notebook gnome-shell[2310]: Failed to read EDID from
'eDP-1': No such file or directory

After it freezed, I was still able to enter commands through SSH and the
machine responded normally, which I think confirms that only gnome-shell
is affected by this bug.
