[Bug 1744849] [NEW] gnome-shell segfault in libgobject-2.0 g_type_check_instance_cast

2018-01-22 Thread fermulator
Public bug reported:

{{{
[13704.632087] gnome-shell[9051]: segfault at 82 ip 7f3e7e900de2 sp
7fff6078c200 error 4 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.5400.1[7f3e7e8cb000+52000]
}}}

Stack trace is roughly:
 * g_type_check_instance_cast() at libgobject-2.0.so.0
 * st_label_set_text() at libst-1.0.so
 ...

My setup:
 * dual monitors
 * multiple local users
 * often 2x users logged in at same time
 * flip between them using PTY (CTRL+ALT+ F2, F3, etc.)
 * CTRL+ALT+F1 gets us to the gdm login screen (user selection)

What happens:
 * eventually either by timeout (or after suspend), or manual lock screen
 * user hits CTRL+ALT+F2,3,X, to access their PTY
 * screen may or may not be locked; (user logs in)
 * user hits "ALT+F2", and types "r" +  (gnome-shell --replace)

Reproducibility:
 * happened a few times since upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10
 * happened immediately after running "r"

Issue Analysis:
 * none - need guidance on how to debug/isolate next time it happens

[Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-01-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try the current deb version in Ubuntu 18.04 (

If that works then the correct approach is for us to mark this as Fix
Released, but also nominate older versions of Ubuntu to receive a fix
later.

2018-01-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think we might need to split this bug in two, just for the sake of
automation.

In 18.04 the stack trace for this crash is a bit different. So our
robots don't notice it's the same bug as this. It might pay to un-
duplicate one of the newer forms, just so the robots can find it and
will stop logging duplicates. And comment in that bug that it's the same
as this one.

[Bug 1721963] Re: No mouse cursor on Wayland when Universal Access > Zoom is selected

2018-01-22 Thread Seth Painter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1691676 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1691676

Greetings friends, I've come up with a simple solution that will work in the
short term. I updated last night and was immediately pissed that the one thing
I require in any OS, the magnifier, no longer worked on Ubuntu Gnome after
updating to Artful, but Today I came up with a simple workaround.
All you must do is
1. Go into universal access -> zoom -> crosshairs
2. Turn it on.
3. Enable overlap mouse
4. change the length to be as short as possible, or as long as you want
5. Turn the thickness down very low, or what's comfortable for you
6. Change the color to solid black with no alpha
This will create a connected cross in the middle of the screen where the
pointer would be. The only thing really missing or left to be desired here is
the white border, but nothing I can do about that. ;/

[Bug 1733245] Re: [Feature request] merge update-manager with gnome-software

2018-01-22 Thread Robert Ancell
When we initially moved to GNOME Software we considered using the updates page
as the primary means of updating. The issue is that GNOME Software is designed
to hide a lot of the package details that update-manager shows. So we need to
resolve if we:
- Are happy hiding all package details from the user
- Can modify GNOME Software in some way
- Can keep using both systems (the current state)

[Bug 1744798] [NEW] Text area completely fails to clear during redraw

2018-01-22 Thread Chris West
Public bug reported:

At some point since after the 17.10 upgrade, the main text area has been
totally failing to redraw properly for me. Scrolling results in complete
garbage being displayed. Selecting everything redraws the background to
orange, so you can temporarily see what's going on.

Here's a short screen recording of me selecting, scrolling etc. the text to
show it being complete garbage:
https://b.goeswhere.com/gedit-redraw-fail.mp4 [3MB]

I'm using the nvidia binary driver, and i3. Running a compositor doesn't
make any difference.

I presume the problem is in some gnome library, not in gedit itself, but
the gedit bug is very.. visual.

[Bug 950352] Re: Online Accounts UI Missing

2018-01-22 Thread sdoof
Same for me, using Lubuntu 17.10.1

Can open it with “gnome-control-center online-accounts” from a console
(although there are two warning message, see below), but that's not
clean to have to open a console to open it. I came to that issue while
learning more about Ubuntu WebApps.

Additionally, opening the missing control panel from a console, I get
these two messages:

** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not find settings
panel "online-accounts"

** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not load setting

[Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-01-22 Thread Simon P.
I don't understand why that bug was marked as fixed when the standard
vlc package in Ubuntu is obviously not fixed and still causing those
crashes and bothering users. And I really don't see the point for
opening a new bug report for the same old problem, so I just changed the
status of this bug.

Side note: In the current snap package of vlc 3.0.0-rc7 those crashes
are not happening any more. As there are other minor issues in that snap
(like no disabling of screen timeout while video playback), that is not
a perfect workaround yet for users who prefer vlc.

[Bug 1690280] Re: Classic confined snaps don't install

2018-01-22 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-software into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
software/3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.8 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1744711] Re: Update gnome-terminal to 3.28 (vte 0.52)

2018-01-22 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Here's an updated patch against current VTE master.

https://git.gnome.org/browse/vte/commit/?id=b274318f2e is a conflicting
upstream change. (By the way, I discovered the bug while porting the
patch to the previous version.)

The easy way to do the merging was, again, (at least for me), to
- revert the conflicting upstream change
- apply the existing pcre2 patch
- manually re-apply the upstream change
- squash these to a single commit

[Bug 1704765] Re: can't drag file from desktop to folder window on Artful

2018-01-22 Thread Adam Dingle
This bug is still a major annoyance. It would be really nice to solve
this for 18.04 (Bionic).

GNOME has recently removed the desktop code from Nautilus, so it seems
very unlikely that this will be solved upstream. So presumably someone
from Canonical or a community volunteer will need to fix this.

2018-01-22 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Description changed:

Today I upgraded from Ubuntu 2016.04.1 LTS with "sudo do-release-upgrade -d"
I also switch back from Gnome to Ubuntu's default desktop environment, which
I had left about a year ago because of bugs.
Now Ubuntu seems to be working fine, but I received this error report out of
nowhere.
