[Bug 1746659] [NEW] package gnome-menus 3.13.3-6ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned

2018-01-31 Thread Peter Purich
Public bug reported:

Release:17.10
gnome-menus:
  Installed: 3.13.3-6ubuntu5
  Candidate: 3.13.3-6ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 3.13.3-6ubuntu5 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I added Ubuntu Gnome shell. After that, the screen was black (but everything
else seemed to be ok). I selected the "gdm" (not the "light" one).

Then I tried to upgrade to 17.10 then the gnome-menus failed the
upgrade. Prior to the failure, there were a dozen or so of "assertions
... =! NULL" errors one after another.

The Gnome shell would accept my password but then back to login. I
changed the shell to "Unity" and everything looked liked before the
17.10 upgrade (except the repeated errors above).

I will try to recover using my backup disk.

Bug 1746653 (private) mentions that Xwayland is dumping core (just
"core") in $HOME. That might explain this bug if the same is happening
for a lot of people... we wouldn't get the crash reports we need.

[Bug 1746527] [NEW] Systemd User Service Cannot Start with ECryptFS Due to PAM Misconfiguration

2018-01-31 Thread Max Ehrlich
Public bug reported:

If a user encrypts their home directory using the standard Ubuntu
installer GUI, which uses ecryptfs, then the users home directory is
encrypted while systemd is trying to start their user services so they
cant be read. After consulting with the systemd developers, the problem
is remarkably simple to fix

Ubuntu releases /etc/pam.d/common-session with the follow entries:

session optionalpam_systemd.so
session optionalpam_ecryptfs.so unwrap

they need to be swapped to

session optionalpam_ecryptfs.so unwrap
session optionalpam_systemd.so

so that decryption happens before systemd user services are started.

[Bug 1595695] Re: Bluetooth indicator disappears every time bluetooth is being turned off

2018-01-31 Thread dronus
On Thinkpad T420s, switching off Bluetooth make the device disapper by
rfkill soft blocked state and hence the icon. Reenabeling is possible
via rfkill only, all UI applications state "no device" until then. If
reenabled by 'rfkill unblock ', icon reappears immediately and
all is fine until we switch of bluetooth by UI again.

[Bug 1716409] Re: Unable to install flatpak on Ubuntu artful

2018-01-31 Thread Waz
I had the same error. So I installed gnome-software-plugin-flatpak and
flatpak :

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexlarsson/flatpak && sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install flatpak

But still had the same error. I rebooted and had the install button
(with the other error Martin noticed too on #3). Unfortunately that
doesn't worked too. I had an other error (the third...) that I attached.
Note the installation work from command line.

[Bug 1746426] [NEW] Totem is not associated with any mime types

2018-01-31 Thread Remco Haszing
Public bug reported:

In /usr/share/applications/totem.desktop no MimeType key is specified. I
believe this causes several tools to not be able to open video files.
For example, the following commands fail silently:

xdg-open asd.mkv
gio open asd.mvv

The following command does open the file, but outputs it's being
deprecated in favor of 'gio open'.

gvfs-open

I think his is basically https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842805, but for Ubuntu instead of Debian, and on a
Totem version where it has already been fixed for Debian.
