[Bug 1754823] Re: Gnome Settings is inconsistent with how it respects spelling differences due to locale

2018-03-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report!

The original strings are normally American English. Other flavors of
English are handled as translations. If your selected language is
British English, and the British English translation for a string is
missing, it falls back to the original string.

So I don't think this is a bug. Ideally all translations would be
complete always, but that will never happen. You may want to nudge the
English UK translators team about it (), but I suppose it would be hard for them to act on your
general observation. Closing this bug report.

Please feel free to file new reports about *specific* missing English UK
translations which you find especially disturbing.

[Bug 1239300] Re: nautilus: Does not handle connect to server well (error messages) if no host or no network connection

2018-03-11 Thread Ads20000
The error is now (on 17.10):

```
Unable to access location
Hostname not known
```

On 13.10 it said:

```
Oops! Something went wrong.
Unhandled error message: SSH program unexpectedly exited
I think the new error message is more informative so I'm going to mark
this Fix Released. Please revert to New if you disagree.
Ubuntu (16.04 or 17.10) and what are the exact steps that one needs to
[Bug 1245589] Re: Doesn't run, reports a zeitgeist/dbus error
2018-03-11 Thread Stan Williams
This may be  due to something I have changed in my heavily modified
system rather than this  bug?  But it just recently started.   On this
box which is my main one I'm running  Ubuntu 14.04  using Metacity and
Gnome  flashback,  Lately  I have to use a different editor as I  can
no longer  use Gedit from the terminal.  I can  however run it from the
GUI menu, I just now tried to see. And  It seems I no longer Have  a
zeitgeist directory so I suspect that is a good clue. I will fix mine, I
just thought I should post this in case it helps someone.
"sudo gedit" returns:
** (gedit:6054): CRITICAL **: file log.c: line 980: unexpected error:
Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.zeitgeist.Engine:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to
[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices
2018-03-11 Thread linuxcub
Usually I use my Wacom Intuos CTH-450/K with Gimp. Now I tested it with Krita.
Seems that all functions of the board are supported, including varying line
width with varying stylus pressure. But only after I installed gnome, see above
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1753525/comments/2
This will still give the developers something to work till April.
[Bug 1754169] Re: [Bionic] [wayland] many gnome applications exit or crash when a file is opened from within
2018-03-11 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:
- See title. Make sure that your are on the ubuntu-wayland session.
+ Workaround
+ ---
+ From the login screen, click your name, then click the gear button and select
Ubuntu. Log in.
- ==Steps to reproduce for Nautilus==
- 0) From the log in screen, click your name, then click the gear button and
select Ubuntu on Wayland. Log in.
+ Steps to reproduce for Nautilus
+ ---
+ 0) From the login screen, click your name, then click the gear button and
select Ubuntu on Wayland. Log in.
  1) Open nautilus (currently 3.26.2 in bionic)
  2) Browse to a location with a textfile or an archive (eg.
/home/user/.thunderbird )
  3) Right click a textfile or an archive (eg. profiles.ini)
  4) Choose gedit or File Roller from the list, click ok.
  5) Nautilus crashes, gedit or File Roller don't come up
  Another observation: This problem is not limited to Nautilus. Thus going
  back to Nautilus 3.26.0 will not help.
- ==Steps to reproduce for other apps (via opening yelp files)==
+ Steps to reproduce for other apps (via opening yelp files)
+ --
  1) Open nautilus
  2) click on the nautilus entry in the top bar (right of "Activities").
  3) Select "Help"
  4) nautilus exits, yelp doesn't come up
  5) open polari
  6) click on the "Polari" entry in the top bar (right of "Acitivies").
  7) Select "Help"
  8) See polari crash
  9) Open gnome-control-center
  10) See that gnome-control-center will exit/crash, see that yelp doesn't come
up
- ==Affected applications==
+ Affected applications
+ -
  Not all applications crash. Most applications don't offer the possibility to
open yelp from the top bar. So those are not mentioned in the list below:
  * Deja Dup, Gnome control center, Nautilus, Polari, Gnome-Disks, Gnome-
  Photos, gEdit and gnome-logs will crash
  * Gnome Terminal, Rhythmbox, Gnome-Sudoku, Cheese, Gthumb, Gnome-
  Mahjongg, Gnome-Mines, Simple-Scan, Gnome-Calculator and Gnome-Clocks,
  File Roller, gnome-screenshot, baobab, gnome-system-monitor and Totem
  will not.
- ==Expected result==
- The gnome app doesn't crash, gEdit, Yelp or File Roller come up and let you
view the file
+ Other Info
+ --
+ Opening a file from Nautilus with LibreOffice doesn't crash Nautilus.
- ==The reason I initially thought it was a gedit regression==
- When choosing LibreOffice Nautilus doesn't crash and LibreOffice opens the
file.
-
- ==The reason I initially thought it was a nautilus regression==
- Not only opening gedit causes a crash but also opening an archive with File
Roller.
-
- ==Conclusion=
+ Conclusion
+ --
  Is that a Mutter or Gnome-shell regression? Is it going to be fixed upstream?
It seems that some (XDG?-) handover between some gnome apps doesn't work as
expected and both apps have to exit.
[Bug 1754961] [NEW] Evolution RAM-waste of 120 MB
2018-03-11 Thread Michael Kuster
Public bug reported:
This "BUG" affects the hidden evolution programs. Therfore I captured a
screenshot from gnome-system-monitor to show the problem.
I don't use evolution and no other kind of calendar or mobile sync
programs. So I was wundering why evolution uses 120 MB RAM!
I disabled the hole evolution garbage with the following command and had no
side-effects:
sudo mv /usr/lib/evolution/ /usr/lib/evolution-disabled/
If you can solve this RAM-waste the propper way, this would be very
appreciated! Please keep in mind than with Ubuntu 14.04 the RAM-waste of
evolution was about 40MB.
I have a proposed fix for this but I don't know if it will make it into
Re: [Bug 1709256] Re: 17.10 Alpha 2: screenshot "copy to clipboard" not always storing in clipboard
2018-03-11 Thread Robert Orzanna
Isn't this related to Wayland security feature?
Clipboard content is forgotten if you close the app (in this case the
screenshot tool) before pasting.
[Bug 1754902] Re: Firefox web browser not found within Software Centre
2018-03-11 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
I'll assume this is the daily build of Ubuntu bionic, based on some of
your other reports the last few days. When reporting bugs in the future
please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package
affected. This will automatically add version numbers, appropriate tags
and other relevant information. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
For this one, which is already reported, you may run the following command in a
terminal (just once), to add the same information:
apport-collect 1754902
Keep up the testing and please report any bugs you may come across :)
[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time
2018-03-11 Thread PeterPall
@borovaka: That also matches my experience: If you disable everything
that creates previews the gnome-shell's memory usage will grow slower.
But if you only have 4 Gigabytes of memory you still have to reboot your
computer every 2 hours.
